    This video on C2M explains how China reinvents the global e-commerce. I explain about the history or C2M in China, the reasons it can flourish now and why C2M is a combination of 4 trends that China had created in past 5 years already. We mention about SHEIN and PINDUODUO, as well as the benefits of C2M for platforms, factories and consumers - and the challenges for the industry and global brands.
    00:00 Consumer to manufacturing
    00:24 Difference C2M and traditional business
    03:32 C2M originated in China - BIYAO

    07:05 Why is C2M possible today?
    09:17 Why did C2M come from China?

    There are many funny facts about Chinese manufacturing, some you may not be able to see anywhere else. One example, there are some factories that the factory owners only own the factory building, the machines and materials inside are actually owned by some smaller entities or individuals, they buy the machinesin the first place or they worked for the factory owner for some times then the factory owner gave them the machines. They pay the factory owners some money as the site fee and utilities, and some commissions if they get some orders from the factory owners, they can work as hard and price as much as they would like as long as they are not taking orders from the factory owner. So they are very flexible and often willing to work very hard

      Though they appear to be operating as an unit which may mean under the "contracting" company who undertake the contract with the buyer. Thereafter, the contracting company then sub-contract the various stages of the operations towards the final product where every stage is actually undertaken by a separate party fully responsible for rejection or acceptance of his 'stage finished' product. Hence every stage the next "partner" will ensure the quality is met before he takes over and play his role. There is no third manager to supervise them!!

      This is really interesting, what many don't know is this is also the model that was used in England during the first industrial revolution.
      In fact for al this taklk anbout Shein it's all abouth clothes, I do not see this model in other areas that are about the second, third and third industrial revlution.
      It seem to me people misunderstand this problem, tha ti s clearly that once pooerr countries catch up they seem to be ahead but in fact they still have to arrive at the forefront of technology, and once they are there....
      Look at Japan or Italy to understand.

      @Chuck Goodwish, Seems like Biden doesn't read or know the history of the world. I suggest Biden look into the 14 Volumes of Chinese Science and Civilisation written by professor emeritus Joseph Needham, who had also put up many exhibitions of the myriads of inventions of China - paper, printing, money, Compass, gunpowder, fireworks, the rudder, irrigation, porcelain, ceramics silk, brocade umbrella...

      @Shenzhou. 3 года назад +6

      To Joe Biden, China invented the _Four Great Inventions_ (四大发明) which have greatly influenced the world through their respective areas. _Paper_ and _Printing_ made the transcribing and transmission of knowledge easier. The _Compass_ made navigation easier and dangerous journeys safer and more reliable. And _Gunpowder_ has changed the way modern wars are fought.

      It took me a long time to figure things out.. these people must have sgares in the company that they are trying to influence... or something. At first, I went crazy after I read his comment. It was patronising, and insulting, and stupid.... Now I get why... I also get why now, I get hit or physically abused in the UK, by Chinese people... I don't know whether to cry for myself, or to cry for others. The analytics are spamming over time too. And these so called influencers have zero idea about how so many people in the West is now driven to suicide
      .. and have suicidal thoughts.....
      . Cos their global pressures to step into someone else business, or harm their lives, without ever meeting them, or figured out their lives, and then to fix and to cheat them. This is high in global social life today..... It goes back to that confucian parental control. I want to control you, and all parts of your life.

Amazon never shares it's market data with other reatailers but Alibaba & other merchants in China are forced to share that market data to ensure fair market practices 👍👍

    What a fresh breath of air from this channel. Accidentally found your channel and immediately subscribed and binged watch. One of the few Western scholars that I respect who can actually analyze and study China in a relatively non-arrogant and non-biased way.
    I agree to disagree with some of your optimisms regarding overall Chinese developments. As someone who immigrated to U.S 10 years ago, I've seen the good and bad sides of both countries. China still has a long way to go regarding GDP per capita and productivity, cost of living etc, but I'm extremely proud of my country's progress (and again thank you for speaking up for that).
    The U.S is falling behind on several areas but still holds dominance with its financial system, tech sector, healthcare development , and extensive anti-China propaganda It will be extremely intense and interesting to see what happen in the next few years between these two countries. Please continue to make contents and good lucj reaching your 100k subscriber goal by the end of this year!

    • @PascalCoppens
      @PascalCoppens  3 года назад

      Thanks Yuyu. I agree there is good and bad on both side. The issue I see is that both countries see more bad than good from each other these days. China woke up to see the bad of China, while it used to see mostly the good. The West has seldom seen the good of China, except for market or labor size, and still today prefers not to see it. I therefore sometimes do not emphasise enough on the problems of China, not because I don't want to, but because there are enough channels doing that already. The good and positive change however is seldom talked about without it sounding like propaganda to the Western audience
      Thanks for the encouragement and I do hope to reach 100K in 2021.
      BTW - if you disagree with me, feel free to add comments. I prefer a dialogue to a monologue always.

    I think now the most interesting topic is how should foreign brands behave in China to prevent the fate of getting kicked like D&G and H&M.
    It seems like they don't really know how to behave and get screwed badly

      Here's some advice for _H&M,_ just follow _Sketchers_ example, they did their homework and launched audits into their cotton factory in Xinjiang and found no evidence of forced labour in picking cotton. Whereas H&M just blindly believe rumours of forced labour in Xinjiang cotton industry.

      Once upon a time, Western brands like Nike or Haagen-Dazs was the talk of the town. They were hip, they were responsive, they were agile, and they turn on a dime.
      Today, all those Western brands have fossilized. They still think they are the greatest, that the rest of the world need them, that they are still commanding the whole world. They just sit there, doing nothing, expecting the world to kow-tow, to worship them.
      So they continue to make racist remarks on people who do not have white skin, in their ads they still portray those people as *_uncivilized_* and that those people are still as stupid as ever.
      In other words, the West still behaves as if they are the colonialists of yesteryears.

    But do they own the manufacturing (factories, operations, etc)? I understand that customer data and manufacturing is directly connected, like the dropshipping or print on demand models where data flow is more direct and production reacts after (adapts to consumer behavior much quicker), but are they still a brand that takes care of marketing, law, website, etc, or do they own the factories?
    If so (if they own both), which one did they start first?

    Great presentation! C2M could be a revolution that gravitate designers, consumers and manufacturers from all over the world into such a platform. The merits to designers and manufacturers are tremendous while consumers able to enjoy great products at affordable price with conveniences. Beside merits to direct consumers, retailer and whole sale merchant could easily take advantage of such platform in advancing their domestic business. Couple with future digitalized Yuan; it will propel China to reach as the global power house for consumer merchandises.

    • @lawrencekimani6658

      I guess the case on Amazon the customer buys what is in store but for shein, the customer orders what they want from the factory where its manufactured for them. So Amazon depends on storage shein depends on on-demand manufacturing

    I am surprised India banned Shein. Unless india can create the likes of tiktok, shein and others; she is inevitably stuck in her traditional industries and way of doing business. She will also deprive Indians the opportunities to learn and compete with the Chinese.

    I hear about the benefits about vertical integration of the supply chain since the early 2000s. Why does it work now? I think the big benefit is that Shein managed to cut down markting by betting on influencers...

    • @PascalCoppens
      @PascalCoppens  3 года назад

      If you go to Shenzhen, then you see how this is more than vertical integration. This is about ecosystem of partners, which is digital integration, but also investment, training, sharing, open data,...and now Shein includes the consumer side through influencers to give power to consumer instead of the brand.
