I very much doubt Edward Witten intended for anyone to think String Theoretical reasoning to be associated with insanity of any kind.
An association of probabilistic logarithmic-resonance superposition interference has to become a developed skill of wave-particle interference positioning-location in Quantum-fields, but that is more art than craft. Euler did this form following functional condensation-coordination superposition in limited time duration timing modulation interference. The next generation of math-music reciprocation-recirculation instrument makers will follow Witten.

And for their own sake, it seems it would be a good idea for physicists to stop using the phrase « theory of everything ».
Because even if gravity was made part of the theory together with QM/QFT, there would still be lots - lots! - that would be left out.
