It's the contradictions Southgate makes that gets me.
He didn’t bring Mitchell because he said he's a LWB, then plays a RB at LB.
So, a LWB can't play LB but a RB can play CDM?
He stated earlier in the season he couldn't play Foden in CAM because he is a RW, but now proceeds to play him on the left anyway.
The reason he hasn't found a suuitable Kalvin Phillips replacement is due to the fact he insisited on keep picking Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson, despite both of their club playing time being reduced.
It's also a terrible message to send to the players within the squad, saying that Gallagher, Mainoo and Wharton aren't as good as a man who's last good game was in 2021.

Say what you like about Gareth Southgate, but he’s been the most successful manager England has had for 50 years. But that says more about the quality of The FA’s coaching development program more than anything.

@@tk24sports It’s not that I don’t see the issue with his style of play. England are now a very attacking team led by a defensive manager. It’s that I don’t see how the next manager will improve our fortunes. The fans want England to have a top manager, but aren’t prepared to decide on who that should be or how the FA would get them. We all want Guardiola, but how do we force the FA to sign him?
