Most of the GOATS of other sports become humble or start showing their virtues after they retire or when they already reach GOAT status but Messi was the kind, respectful, humble being all his life since day 1. Honestly that is what made me support him since his first season at Barca.
Regarding people not seeing Messi as a leader, it's because he's generally a pretty shy person. For years he barely showed emotions on the pitch. He didn't speak much. Barely ever did interviews. He left the talking to other teammates on and off the pitch. But as time went on and his former captains retired, he became the natural captain, and some people just can't really imagine him in that role. But during the 2022 World Cup, he really showed what a leader he is.

The second goal of Argentina it is probably the best counterattack goal ever, from the moment Argentina recovered the ball until DiMaria scored are only 9 seconds.
And if you pay attention you can see the coach yelling to the team with his arms open wide pointed to a french player that got the ball " HERE, HERE YOU HAVE TO PRESSURE ". Pressure came, french player threw the ball as he could not do a good pass and that led to the counter attack. From the coach to the players, best counterattack goal ever.
I'm living in France, and I was rooting for ALBICELESTE 🇦🇷... Like my all neighbours. His legacy is unbelievable!! We will never again see a player like Messi (even not close..) And that kinda of story, I mean with a Hollinwoodian ending 😱 The absolute GOAT!! 🇦🇷🏆🐐💞
