- Scientists are people who dedicate their entire lives to studying subjects like science and history. However, there are many things in our world - objects, processes, species, and phenomenon - that scientists are unable to understand. Many of these remain mysteries for years and years! Today, we will look at top 20 most mysterious discoveries scientists still can’t explain.
1. 300 million year old tooth wheel
Scientists believe that 300 million years ago, the earth was still young and the first land animals were yet to develop into dinosaurs. If that’s the case, how do you explain the discovery of a piece of a gearshift embedded into a 300 million year old piece of coal? When this man, Dmitri, was trying to light a fire using coal in his home in Vladivostok, Russia, he sifted through the coal and found a metallic looking rail. He presented it to the experts, and they noticed it was made of aluminum and magnesium and was 300 million years old. Scientists still can’t tell how such a modern artifact was found in prehistoric coal!
3. Figurines with feather headdress
Taking us back to Russia is another archeological discovery that has given researchers a few headaches. This man-made figurine with a head dress turned up in a potato field in Siberia, Russia. The strange figure dates back to 5000 years. The most amazing fact is that there is no evidence of human settlements in Siberia 5000 years ago. Experts believe that a few nomads did roam the area at that time; however, those nomads are not known to wear feather dresses such as this! Seems the experts are still studying this one.
5. Fat boys of Guatemala
Say hello to the fat boys of Guatemala who may not have the most flattering name in the history of archeology but who definitely have some remarkable properties. Fat boys of Guatemala refer to a set of ancient statues that date back to 4000 years. Each of these statue figures has a positive magnetic charge on the right side of its head. It is interesting to note that the craft of magnetism was born in China about 2000 years ago. It’s unlikely that the early ancient South American settlers created these statues as they are not known to work with iron or magnets. Could it be that our ancestors had access to some hidden knowledge? Hmm.
7. Monte Prama giants
Back to Europe, let’s explore the giants of Monte Prama. Statues of giants were found on a hilly area near Cabras on the west coast of Sardinia, Italy. These extremely large creations are 8 feet tall, with large flat disc shaped eyes. For how long have the sculptures been standing there? No one knows. Experts estimate that the figures could be 2800-3100 years old. It is also believed that these were built by people from Nuragic civilization of Sardinia. The 1974 discovery of ancient tombs, right next to the statues, suggest that the giant statues were placed there to guard the dead.
13. 60,000 Secret Structures of Guatemala
The Secret Structures of Guatemala refer to a large settlement of the ancient Maya people. The structures were mentioned in an article on history dotcom in 2018. The settlement includes houses, canals, farms and even roads leading to major cities. Discovery of this fascinating Maya settlement completely discredited the previous assumption that this area was sparsely populated. Sounds like a reddit story, yea! Discovering a entire city like this must be one of the best achievements in archeology! What do you think?
14. Hand of Alien
One night an Egyptian archeologist decided to do his own digging in a restricted area near a pyramid. What’s the worst that could happen? Maybe he would find a perfectly mummified pharaoh and become world-famous! But, he wasn’t ready for what he found at all. He dug up a hand that looks way too similar to an alien hand. The alien might have been injured in that building. This really makes us rethink all the alien theories. The authorities are keeping it under wraps for now for further investigation to be confirmed. In 2015, a team of archeologists unearthed nearly 2000 spectacular gold spirals in Denmark. The strange objects date back to the Bronze Age. The spirals are thin filaments that weigh about half a pounds and are about one inch in length. Archeologists often find a lot of artifacts and precious jewels like gold and silver during excavations. However, too this day, they don’t know what these curious-looking gold pieces were meant for! Sound like creepy pasta, wouldn’t you agree.

What is the real age of the statues? You say 2,800 to 3,100. But the print at the top of the video say 28,000 to 31,000. That is a big variation of time.
