Nice video Abhinav. Even 20 years ago, round about 7-10 kilos is all we could shed from our 500s removing all the tin work. 196 kilos - 10.7 (round off to 11) is still 185 kilo bike. Not 170. Unless you plan to run it without fuel.
I'm talking dry weight here. Won't run on trails with 17 litres in the tank. Maybe 5-7. So, to keep it simple, just focused on dry weight. Of course ready to ride it will be heavier.
Wet doesn’t mean only Fuel.. engine oil 2 litres and coolant 1 litres will itself weights more than 3 kilos and fuel of 5 Litres is another 3 kgs at least. soo please don’t miss lead the viewers. Practically you can’t own vehicle at Ex show room price and can’t run vehicle with dry weight. Now peace
@@mallelli99 how is anyone being misled when the first thing I say in the video is that the bike is 181 kg dry. Wet weight will always vary since I don't intend to ride this with a full tank of fuel. So, the constant figure here is the dry weight. Anyone smart enough can add the fuel, engine oil and coolant weight to it.
@@mallelli99 Practically speaking, if the bike were to be taken to a trail with only 7 litres of fuel, that means you are carrying 10 litres less than maximum. 10 litres of fuel equal 7.5 to 8 kg. Great job guys. It's looking pretty sweet while being uncompromisingly functional. I do think using a couple of cable ties to secure those wires to the front fork would be prudent though.
The bike definitely looks much better without the cage. It is a heavy bike for a 450cc. 11kg reduction would be huge and you would definitely feel the difference I think.
Is the the bike given to you by RE? If yes, then its amazing that companies are allowing you to modify it. RE does showcase the custom builds on their YT. Hope to see this bike in RE's yt channel soon. Happy new year Abhinav.
With the rally seat and upper crash bars removed.I was wandering 🤔 If its possible to replace the wheels with guerrillas wheels ( with frond wheel mudguard) it can be a guerrillas 450 with a bigger fuel tank. I believe it has all the potential to be a 2 in 1 motorcycle (adventure + retro style street necked ). Could you please replace the front wheel with a 100 or120/70-17 wheel infront and make a video on it? However, i found this Himalayan 450 project very informative and helpful.
I like this project!👍 Happy New Year btw.🎉 PS. I know some, like Tusk, have solved the front indicators by integrating them into the hand guards.. might be worth considering..🤔
Hello Abhinav, Like always you have taken the initiative for modifications. Kudos to you. What is the make of the footpegs that you have installed. And please try to develop a series of accessories for the new himalayan.
Motourenn footpegs. I can't develop accessories since I am not a fabricator or even into the automotive business. I am just a person who rides bikes for fun.
One can remove the spoke wheels and have alloys for road use. Of some light weight options can be produced for tank guard and the rear storage rack, it will really help reduce the top heavy nature of this bike. Exhaust is another candidate but babus will be quick to reprimand.
Very interesting. As for the front fender, in my opinion the high one is more useless, which does not protect radiator and engine and which I also find rather ugly aesthetically. The low one, which wraps around the wheel more, definitely protects more from various splashes and stones. And in fact there are many specialized enduro bikes that mount only a low fender on the wheel. Cheers!
No you are wrong. Low fenders are ugly and high is the way to go. Enduro bikes dont have low fender because they run knobby tyres like this bike will have.
I take note of the knobby tires, but for an aesthetic factor if I were to buy a Himlayan I would immediately remove the tall one, which I just don't like, and mount a more modern low fender than the original one.@SupermotoCentral
Let us now remove the wheels. That'll also prevent chances of puncture and save a lot of weight. Next you can remove the head light and use a pocket torch in it's place, thereby saving a lot more of weight. Another item could be the rear view mirrors. .. quite unneccesary in India.
The problem now is - from my point of view -•that you vave significantly reduced the touring capacity of the bike. No rear rack = no mounting points for luggage. No center stand = much more difficult to do tyre repairs in the field. No front fender = wheel is constantly throwing dirt onto the radiator = overheating. Plus I don't really like the fully exposed vital front break line.
See, almost everything is bolt on and off. The day I have to tour (twice a year), I can bolt the parts back on. And I'll fix the brake line and figure out the fender too.
Great weight saving there🙌🏻 Curious to know what else can be removed or replaced with lighter equipments. Loved that double take trail mirror 🤠, i was assuming it's Zefal spy mirrors on the previous video.
possibly - Lighter wheels, lighter exhaust or Aluminum sprockets (and sprocket sizes if tuning required), But most importantly, one just needs 10 to 12 L of petrol (which would save 4 to 5 Kgs) on top of this weight loss.
sock protection or wraps on the front forks would be more protection from dust and particles,,ktm duke owners used to buy these or get them made, also rear chain guard should be re added to prevent oil plash marks all over on the bike and on rider and pillion. You can Remove catalytic converter for better performance as well as weight reduction.
I think RE designed it as a touring machine that goes on occasional off roads than a pure off road machine. Yeah shredding weight helps off the road , but on highways weight helps to keep the bike on track at higher speeds.
Bro Awesome video... I always watch ur video... A very good Informative one... Can You Please Tell Me from Where you have purchased this rally seat???? I want to buy this..
I use bar end mirrors , rear visibility is a must and I would not remove the front fender 100% , I would have reduced the length - This is a trekker bike so mods need to suit the ride too
While I applaud RE for their line up and quality the DR650/400 KLR 650 XR 650 out perform the Hima hands down, want one get one but if one is looking for reliability, longevity, resale value, spares etc the others have it.
Hi Bro. You explain in detail. Really i appreciate your work, that each and every part weighing and making a vlog Cooperation of the garage. I observed that you have a TN registration. How is it possible? If you have a idea please make a vlog on this because we get a factory made. Less tax i think so.
I would suggest you to design a fork brace for better stability bcoz that's missing here..... It will play a vital role on the entire handling n braking part
super job - be nice to see once aluminium radiator/fuel tank protection is on, maybe a full front mudguard is in design by somebody or else the radiators will be taking a lot of pain and mud - i look forward to seeing the project play out, you didn't tell us the weight of the rally seat compared to standard - i imagine there is some difference?
Hello, greetings from Spain. The weight reduction makes the new Himalayan very interesting. One question, isn't it dangerous for the brake cables to be loose?
@@abhinavbhatt Very kind for your response. I will be attentive to the solutions you find, in case I finally acquire this motorcycle. Hold it. The bike you are working on seems to have TL rims fitted on it as if from stock . Where did you get those? Nice video. Let's see how you will save weight on the front number plate, footpegs (Fand R), mirrorsand front mud guard. Will be interesting to note the alternatives to the stock. But my first obsn still stands. Swap in a lithium battery as well. Not free, though.
Some good quality adjustable lever give you adjustability and you might lose a few grams as well.
I did. Still looking for adjustable levers though. Cheers
Hello abhinav very interesting video also could u please make a video on power increment as well.
Great weight saving there🙌🏻
Curious to know what else can be removed or replaced with lighter equipments.
Loved that double take trail mirror 🤠,
i was assuming it's Zefal spy mirrors on the previous video.
possibly - Lighter wheels, lighter exhaust or Aluminum sprockets (and sprocket sizes if tuning required), But most importantly, one just needs 10 to 12 L of petrol (which would save 4 to 5 Kgs) on top of this weight loss.
sock protection or wraps on the front forks would be more protection from dust and particles,,ktm duke owners used to buy these or get them made, also rear chain guard should be re added to prevent oil plash marks all over on the bike and on rider and pillion. You can Remove catalytic converter for better performance as well as weight reduction.
Atleast this Himalayan’s new year weight loss resolutions are holding up :p
With all that weightshedding, we've gained 0.1 BHP more.
You might wanna chuck the hand guards, headlight, and meter console next.
This is what exactly I'll do if I got one ❤
I think RE designed it as a touring machine that goes on occasional off roads than a pure off road machine. Yeah shredding weight helps off the road , but on highways weight helps to keep the bike on track at higher speeds.
Bro Awesome video... I always watch ur video... A very good Informative one... Can You Please Tell Me from Where you have purchased this rally seat???? I want to buy this..
I use bar end mirrors , rear visibility is a must and I would not remove the front fender 100% , I would have reduced the length - This is a trekker bike so mods need to suit the ride too
Hello , can you tell me the brand of the footpegs you put on please? Great video...👍👍👍
10 kg shred is quite impressive 🎉
This amazing..please continue with this project
While I applaud RE for their line up and quality the DR650/400 KLR 650 XR 650 out perform the Hima hands down, want one get one but if one is looking for reliability, longevity, resale value, spares etc the others have it.
Full review is good with whole experience you shared
Hi Bro.
You explain in detail.
Really i appreciate your work, that each and every part weighing and making a vlog
Cooperation of the garage.
I observed that you have a TN registration.
How is it possible?
If you have a idea please make a vlog on this because we get a factory made.
Less tax i think so.
In one word, EXCELLENT.
I would suggest you to design a fork brace for better stability bcoz that's missing here..... It will play a vital role on the entire handling n braking part
Upside down forks don't need a fork brace. The thicker tubes take care of it.
Ciao bellissimo video... la sella rally monta anche da sola ?nin c'è bisogno di tutto il kit.? grazie
awesome content brother
Really Educational
Btw How much did the rally seat cost you and what is its seats height?
Seat height is 859 mm. Cost not revealed yet. This is a prototype.
Good guide on what you souldn't do, thanks a lot!
Ty Abhinav for doing what all of us wanted to do but cannot do due to financial constrain....testing and sampling around..😂
@X_O_TeIegrem__ABHINAVBHATT01- not sure I understand this ...am i getting a gift 😅?
Nice! How and where did you get the cross spoke wheels??
super job - be nice to see once aluminium radiator/fuel tank protection is on, maybe a full front mudguard is in design by somebody or else the radiators will be taking a lot of pain and mud - i look forward to seeing the project play out, you didn't tell us the weight of the rally seat compared to standard - i imagine there is some difference?
Once I have the stock seat with me, I will.
@@abhinavbhatt aha , of course, sorry I simply expected it was there, silly me.
Hello, greetings from Spain. The weight reduction makes the new Himalayan very interesting. One question, isn't it dangerous for the brake cables to be loose?
I'll figure a routing out once I do direct brake lines. I'm planning to remove the ABS unit. I'll do a video on it once we get there.
@@abhinavbhatt Very kind for your response. I will be attentive to the solutions you find, in case I finally acquire this motorcycle. Personally I prefer to keep the ABS on mine, but perhaps for exclusive off-road use it would be more useful not to have it. Are you also thinking about how to solve the installation of front turn signals?
@jrodalv yes. I'd be making a custom bracket for the front. The ABS is too intrusive off-road so just can't have it on the bike. Cheers
Is it the rally version which RE showed during launch? Or did you modified the seat?
The horn and the metal cover on the exhaust could be removed too or be replaced by a lighter one.
hello, very good job. can you tell me the link to buy the footpegs please. Thanks and bye!~!!
Damn! RE makes some solid quality parts! 😅
bhut si chiz touring ke liye bhi kr skte hai, bike achi lg rhi hai.
GREAT video. GREAT !!!
Brilliant, i have seen foreign ytubers doing weight reduction on re bike.
Nice video.
Can you please share the link for buying those small rare view mirroers.
Cheers.
Bhattji following you since when you reviewed honda cb350
Looks so cool. Is the rally seat a straight fit? I thought you needed the rally rear end as well.
Straight fit.
Where did you get the TL rims from ???
the two higher-end models (black&gold and this one) come with the option of TL rims
quality content sirji 🙌
Thanks
