Hi man! Ridley Scott himself said that he wanted to tie up these 'prequels' to the original story and as we all can imagine not too well with just one movie, but Scott planned to have two movies after this Covenant, but unfrotunately this movie been a dissapointment to producers and also the end of the 20th Century Fox too, it all was scrabbed... Disney destroyed already Star Wars, so if they want to make a sequel, it probably won't be too good. This is way more than just a pity as Ridley Scott is one of the best directors ever... For a side project Elon Musk should give Kathleen Kennedy and her staff free tickets to Mars... oneway tickets... and coupons for free McFeast meal there... for fucks sake...
I like how the Score actually uses Jerry Goldsmith's theme from the Original. Hearing a Goldsmith-Theme again on the big screen in 2017, 13 Years after the Composers' death, really felt kinda special to me.
A thing to remember, and I cannot stress it enough... David does not invent the xenomorph he merely unlocked THIS BATCH of Engineer bio weapons. While David thinks he is creating something he is in fact merely a child left unsupervised With a gun cabinet and a keyring. These 2 movies in fact do not interfere with the Canon of either aliens or predator. The falling off in reviews is likely due to the perceived Violation of established canon for the franchise. I mentioned above why in fact it does not break canon however to the casual viewer or fan there are gaping huge starship sized Plot holes. While there was some contempt in Weyland's face when David was pouring the tea, there was also a hint of fear I think at questioning what he created in David. It was cool to hear the old Alien themes again in this movie. I thought the alien ship looks more like a croissant. This movie was more gross than scary, like the part where Oram dies from the chestburster, it made me think of opening a can of soda, the sounds of the chest tearing apart and the spurt like the fizz of the soda.

Sorry had to totally and completely disagree with you the problem with the alien series was just like every other movie sequels ran too long same plot same story line predictable and just got boring. So many times you can sit there and say okay same story humans run across alien aliens start killing humans and humans have to try to escape finally one or two get away only to wind up having the alien is still there at the end to go into the next movie been there done that boring.... Alien just like Jurassic Park, got to be completely and totally predictable you knew exactly what was going to happen as soon as the movie started you know what the story and plot line was going to wind up being and how it was going to end just rewritten in a different way but basically the same old story.
