My ice maker just stopped first problem after eleven years of working fine. I still had water dispensed at the door. Decided to replace ice maker Samsung part # DA9707365A found it on Amazon for 157.00 the new part number ended with a G but it was identical to my part. Took about ten minutes to change it out and the next morning I had ice. I did not have any ice buildup or freezing problems. You do have to pull down hard on the ice maker while pressing the tab know need to unplug for this repair. This video was very helpful.
Awesome video! Easy to follow process step by step! All of a sudden my ice maker stopped working in my GE refrigerator. A new ice maker solved the problem. I purchased a new Samsung ice maker via eBay for a little over $100-. Then I followed this video. Thanks a lot for creating and posting it!
Thanks for taking the time to share your repair story! I’m glad you were able to save some $$$. Hearing that You didn’t need to spend a bunch of money to hire a repair company to do it brings me joy. Years ago my stove broke and the repair quote was 500 to replace a circuit board on a $600 stove. After that, I was determined to help people just as other youtubers helped me. Thanks again Joseph!
This was the easiest fix ever!! Thank you so much for saving me $150 I laughed when, at the end, you said if you could do it I could do it and you were right!! Thanks again!!
This video worked perfectly. I was concerned that it was going to be something else (frozen or blocked line, something in guts of fridge, something not fixable - but lo and behold - 3 hours later nine ice cubes came out after performing the transplant. $100 for the part on ebay! Thanks!
Thanks for the video! FYI for all - the tab you push down only releases it from a little indentation in the ceiling and doesn’t need to be pushed very hard. Once it’s cleared the indentation, just lightly pull the ice maker forward and it comes loose pretty easily.
Awesome job doing it yourself! $500?! $500 - $120 for the part = $380 for labor. Even If the repair man took 30 minutes, he’s charging $760/hr for labor! Maybe we should go into the refrigerator repair business!
You’re welcome, glad it was helpful! I didn’t realize how much I depended on my ice maker until it broke! Let us know how your repair goes. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Thank you for the removal tips! This demo matched my 2013 SPACE Icemaker needs perfectly... I'm hoping it'll start making ice soon. The arm was out of place and several small pieces of ice came out after removal and cleaning.😁
Thank you so much for this video. I did not know where to start but your video answered every question. The change went perfectly and we now have ice again. Many thanks.
Do I need to defrost the refrigerator before I install the new ice maker? No frost build up around the icemaker just making alot of noise and no ice. My ice maker is the same as the one you replaced in this video. Thank you very much
My tab was so stuck it convinced me that it had nothing to do with taking out the icemaker. Couldn't understand how anyone could get a screwdriver into that side screw by the test button. Until I saw your video! Thank you so much. So fricken easy, I've wasted like 3 months. Has anyone found that thawing the whole thing out on the counter makes it work again? Mine got so bad it was making a loud clicking noise every 5 seconds or so. .
FYI, for Samsung RFG237ACRS, you undo the wiring harness closest to the front of the fridge. Otherwise, it is the same - just look for the bigger of the two plugs.
I am on the 4th ice maker for this refrigerator. Seems like the only choice. I'm pretty certain all of my mine have failed due to the heater coil and sensor not doing it's job after a while, causing the ice to stick to the tray and in return forcing the motor to die prematurely. Yes it is easy to replace but since it's only temporary it adds up in cost fast. Does anyone have idea where to get parts for the ice maker as opposed to replacing the entire unit?
Mine doesn’t make any noise after just replacing. It also doesn’t chime when I hold the reset button down for 10 seconds. Doesn’t that mean it’s not the ice maker that’s the problem? How long before it makes ice if it did work?
Did you have to turn the water off to the fridge? I see in the video you didn't power-down but you didn't mention turning off the water. Don't want to start a flood.
Hi - Thanks for this video - I found I had to push pretty hard on the tab to get the Ice maker out - it should also be mentioned that the new unit will come with the tab so not worries if you are going to get a new one. But all in all very easy to complete.
Thank you very much for this post! My ice maker slowly stopped making as much ice and then completely stopped making ice. I followed this video and removed my ice maker and found that the ice tray had ice in it. I emptied the ice and could hear what sound like plastic rattling around in the motor compartment (my guess was gear shavings). I followed your other video on dissembling the ice maker (thank you again for the post, I felt a lot more comfortable doing after watching your video). Sure enough, when I took the cover off, little pieces of the gears fell out, from both the motor gear and the gear on the shaft that turn the shaft that dumps the ice. My dilemma is, do I replace the entire ice maker or just the gears that are stripped? I guess not knowing why they were stripped is making me want to replace the entire ice maker. Is the heating element bad that heats up to allow the ice to be ejected cause too much tension on the gears causing them to strip? Can I even buy just the gears? I'd add photos of the stripped gears if I knew how. Thank you for any help or advice.
You’re welcome! I’d get a new unit. I tried looking for parts specific to the ice maker and they are not sold online. And you’re right, there might be another problem which resulted in the broken gear. I can imagine the frustration of fixing the gear, only to have it break again.
Hey, any ideas on why my 297 is not doing the defrost process even when i replace the bimetal sensor and did an entire forced defrost process? It still frosting the entire condensator. And water don’t run up to make ice and obvously stop cooling the freezer. The fridge don’t suffer at all.
I have an identical ice maker that started to create ice dams. Removed and cleaned it several times to see what the problem was. It makes ice beautifully but after a couple days the water "overflows" some how and drains into and under auger unit creating huge chunks of ice and sometimes making it difficult to remove auger unit. I cleaned everything out and plugged unit in and ran a test to see how much water was discharged each cycle and also tried to figure how water was getting outside the channels to ice tray. It has me baffled. Works well on initial tests. No leaks, but after a few days, ice dams everywhere. Any idea?
Ive been trying to figure out what it might be. Since it’s gradually goes back to overflowing, I imagine it must be ice buildup somewhere causing the overflow. But I’m stumped too. I found a website that shows you how to change the volume of water that is filled in the ice tray. appliantology.org/blogs/entry/266-how-to-adjust-the-water-fill-amount-in-a-samsung-refrigerator-ice-maker/ It’s worth trying to reduce the full volume, but I’m leaning towards this not being a fix. But you never know....
I think I am having the same issue... the ice just gets stuck up there... the little arms work after I clean it out and test. Did you solve your issue by replacing the ice maker? Or was it something else? Not sure if I should replace the ice maker or the motherboard.
Hey Jason, I was able to fix my ice maker, but in your case I’m leaning towards getting a new ice maker. The original model has been replaced by a new model so it’ll probably address any old issues it may have had. Hopefully zimway57 will let us know what he ended up doing with his ice maker.
You’re welcome! It won’t make any sound when you hold down the test button. Only sound that will indicate that it’s working is the water filling the ice tray. But some people say it takes a few hours to start making ice for some reason.
Hey bud. How did you confirm or isolate it to the icemaker itself and not a blocked up water line, etc? I do have water to the fridge door but wondered if it was possible that part of the inlet valve in the back goes to the door and another line goes to the ice maker? Is it possible part of that valve is bad or no? Frustrated..
Hey, how’s it going? If you slide out the ice bin, on the right side of the ice maker should have a “test” button. Hold it down for 10 seconds and see if the feeler arm moves down as it starts an ice making cycle. Once the feeler arm moves down and back up you should hear water filling the ice tray. If you don’t see the feeler arm move, I’d lean towards the ice maker unit being faulty. I haven’t seen anyone report the inlet valve being faulty, although it’s possible.
Thrifty Tani thanks for getting back. I push the test button for ten seconds. Sometimes it chines twice like it's supposed to but whether it does or doesn't that arm does not move. Based on your feedback it is probably bad and I'm guessing the owl hooting noise is because it's also iced up behind it like others have shared. I've never experienced all the water leaking from it so guessing the tech bulletin mods some people have suggested wouldn't be necessary. I guess I'll try thawing behind it and replacing the ice maker and go from there. Just hoping not to replace what doesn't have to be. Thanks for your help. Jim. Leander

It sounds like your ice maker might be clogged with ice and the motor is trying to break free. I’d try remove the ice maker and defrost it and reinstall and see if it helps.
It might be worth trying a “forced defrost” mode to activate the heating elements of the fridge. I beleive it’s used more to diagnose problems with the entire fridge and freezer. But if the fans in the freezer are iced over it might help. Or to be extra sure you can put your food in coolers and allows the entire fridge to defrost to ensure icing in the cold air duct/fan isn’t causing the problem.
Hi Richard, there might be a bit of ice locking it into place. Try a few bops on the front of the unit with your hand. Kinda like loosening the lid on a pickle jar.
If there was ice in the tray, the ice maker unit is the likely problem. The heating element which loosens the ice from the tray may not be working, resulting in the rotating fingers being unable to eject the ice. That might be then noise you’re hearing. Or the ejector finger’s motor is inoperable which could also be making the noise. Watch my video on complete disassembly of the ice maker unit to understand what I’m taking about.
It is very hard to get to outlet to unplug my frige before doing this! Someone PLEASE tell me the real deal about whether there is a risk of getting shocked, thank you!
I’m no expert but my opinion is that there’s very little risk with getting shocked when changing out the ice maker. None of the wires are exposed for you to touch. The harness covers the exposed ends. I personally wouldn’t unplug my fridge if I had to do it again, it’s too much work. If you don’t believe a stranger’s advice from RUclips, haha, you can alway cut the power from your circuit breaker box (typically a grey box with a bunch of switches). The switch that powers the fridge should be labeled. Or you can just turn off the power main switch to the entire house.

Do you know how to put the ice maker tray back in flushly?
My ice maker works but it’s leaking from condensation inside now into my fridge
Are you talking about the bin that holds the ice? If so, try rotating the auger a quarter turn, then push it in again.

i replace the bimetal sensor and did an entire forced defrost process? It still frosting the entire condensator. And water don’t run up to make ice and obvously stop cooling the freezer. The fridge don’t suffer at all.
What is the other wiring harness going too
Hey Justin, I believe it’s for the motor that rotates the ice dispensing auger.
It has me baffled. Works well on initial tests. No leaks, but after a few days, ice dams everywhere. Any idea?
It has to be something in the water discharge tube at top. The ice cubes are the perfect size so ice tray is not overfilled. Baffled!
Ive been trying to figure out what it might be. Since it’s gradually goes back to overflowing, I imagine it must be ice buildup somewhere causing the overflow. But I’m stumped too. No, nothing. Maybe some frost or ice is locking it into place?
@@thriftytani46 Thank you. I held the reset button for 10 seconds but there was no chime (beep) sound. Is that ok?

HOW ABOUT THE TAB HOW DO I KEEP FROM BREAKING IT DO YOU PUSH DOWN ON IT AFTER YOU REMOVE SIDE PANEL
Don’t push it all the way down. Use just enough force to allow the ice maker to slide out.
CANT GET ICEMAKER TO SLIDEOUT
NOT YET I WILL LOOK IM GOING TO GIVE MY ICEMAKER 24HRS TO SEE IF IT WORKS THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP APP IT
No problem, glad to help.
MINE DOESNT DO ANYTHING MAKES A WEIRD NOISE WILL THIS FIX IT
Hi Michael, does it make thr weird noise only when your dispensing ice into your cup?
IT MAKES A BREATHING NOISE SOUND WHEN I RESET THE ICEMACHINE IT DID THIS BEFORE IT STOPPED WORKING
It sounds like your ice maker might be clogged with ice and the motor is trying to break free. I’d try remove the ice maker and defrost it and reinstall and see if it helps.
SHOULD I UNPLUG FIRST AND HOW DO I KEEP FROM BREAKING THE TAB THANKS
I’m sure the correct way is to unplug the fridge first. But I didn’t and I didn’t have any problems.
IM HOPING ITS NOT THE FAN IS THE FAN INCLUDED IN THE NEW PART AND MOTOR DO YOU KNOW
No there is no fan on the new part.
I posted a video on to how to activate forced defrost.
IM HAVING PROBLEM GETTING CONNECTOR UNPLUGGED HOW DO YOU DO THAT THANKS
Watch at 40 seconds into the video. There is a tab you squeeze and you pull off the plug.
michael meredith if
I pull the tab down and it still won't come out. Any ideas
Hi Richard, there might be a bit of ice locking it into place. Try a few bops on the front of the unit with your hand. Kinda like loosening the lid on a pickle jar.
I PUT BACK ICEMAKER LAST NIGHT AND RESET STILL NOTHING ANY IDEAS THERE WAS CUBES IN TRAY WHEN I PULLED YESTERDAY
I SAW A UTBE ON HERE HOW TO DEFROST THE HEATING ELEMENT THINK THAT WOULD WORK
You’d probably have to defrost the tray every time you want to eject the ice. Probably no a solution to fixing it.
YES I GOT IT OUT THANKS PUT BACK IN STILL NOT WORKING
Did you fine the updated part? It’s 149. It shows it as in stock.
Either you’re not pushing on the tab hard enough or the ice maker needs more force to slide out.
