I have the ancient earth palette and some random other colors. They are all so beautiful and wonderful to work with. I too have fallen down the rabbit hole of handmade paints. It is so helpful to have a guide to some of the best since there are sooooo many makers out there. Swatching videos are some of my most favorite to watch.

I'm late to the party. I recently purchased my first handmade watercolors from Essee and I've fallen head over heels for their line. I have many high end brands such as M Graham, Daniel Smith, Qor, etc...I love them all for different reasons, but the Essee palettes I bought have quickly become my very favorite paints. I have my eyes on Deep Deep Light too!

Thank you for a superb review and I love your enthousiasme for the ESSEE paints that I also have collected over time… The way you swatched them with lots of water, really makes them shine to their identity! Also your voice was intense with joy…. And rightly so!

I really love everything about them so far. I love love the ceramics they do, and the whole aesthetic. It does not surprise me at all that you have been collecting them!

That skin tone set is the exact one I’ve been debating on. I too am a huge fan of blush tones and skin tone palettes
Edit: I caved and got the set 😅 much thanks to my dear husband for helping out!

American Journey from Cheap Joe’s makes a couple of lovely opaque paints…one is French Grey and another is called Pat’s Coastal Blue (I think Blue is the third word in the name). And DS Hematite Violet Genuine is to die for…there is a peachy color that develops (not sure why Violet is in the name)…and there is awesome granulation. Schmincke (which I know you do not like their Super Granulating colors) put out a color…Random Grey 2022…so beautiful and separates in such a lovely way. Would be happy to send you some. ❤

As always, I enjoy your videos (especially new ideas & paint reviews). At beginning, you mentioned your left hand has been losing feeling (and other health issues). Unfortunately, I recently developed similar hand problems.. In last month, I've experienced possible "carpel tunnel" probs in both my hands. Began abt a month ago after, yet more bad stress. It's quickly at a point where I'm considering surgery to correct ...if that is current "best course of action". Ugh. Yeah, it's very frustrating while drawing or trying to pick up something with my fingers.... sometimes accompanied by some pain. I hope you are able to get relief from this as I cannot imagine having to endure this forever. Velcro Wrist braces help me sometimes. Take care.

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you can relieve it somehow. Please take good care.
I do not have carpal tunnel but had cervical spine damage. Nothing I can do about it to bring the feeling back from nerve damage, but it has gotten better over time as far as pain. The pain was so horrible that I will accept the numb fingers in exchange with no complaints. I rarely even think about it anymore! You get used to the not feeling thing, you really do. It has affected the way I work, but I have adapted :)

@@kateriewing I'm sorry that you have had to go through so much pain through the years. I have a very low tolerance for pain let alone discomfort. Like most people, some things I can adapt to easier than others, but stopping my artwork is Not an option for me either. Thank you again for your continued artwork, reviews, tutorials, ideas & thoughts

@@kateriewing Yes, I totally agree 🙂. And now for an "art question" ...lol ..so I've heard on a different "channel" as well, that Daniel Smith is going through some changes that are not good.
Apparently, their company's changes are resulting in losing a significant artist/customer "base"?
Just wondering if it's due to a "loss in confidence (product)? ...or for different reason.

@@keeponkeepinon9363 For me it's both. As a teaching artist who recommended their paints to over 70,000 students, they have not once responded when I wrote to them with questions. Not once.

I was very unimpressed with customer service with Essee. She didn’t send my order correctly and then didn’t want to bother herself to make it right. Too many great handmade watercolor businesses out there that actually care about customers and your business…sorry, won’t order from her again. The watercolors are fine but no better than many others out there.

Dear artists I thought you should be aware of what happened to me. Seeing how much Kateri liked Essee paints I decided to buy some to try out. They mailed the paints. USPS brought them in and said no one was home. Unfortunately that wasn’t so, I was home, so they took the paints back. I wrote to Inga from Essee to let her know what happened. I don’t think she believed me and did nothing about it. A couple of weeks later she said they got the paints back and asked me if I wanted them. I said sure! Then she asked me to pay for the delivery. Unbelievable! I already paid for the delivery the first time. I told Inga to keep the paints and refund my credit card. She said they don’t refund orders. She has my money and my paints and refuses to refund me. Be aware if you order from this company that this could happen to you

As tedious as it is I avoid this by listening for my mail truck and making sure I’m at the window to watch in case they drive by or don’t see me in the window. That way there’s no room for error on my part
