Maybe we could have heard what the umps and managers were saying if it wasn't for that GODDAMN SCREECHING MUSIC blaring in the background.
18 minutes of my life I will never get back.
I started reading these comments at 4:19, so at least I saved about 14 minutes...
To understand the double switch, it helps if you worked at Kruger Industrial Smoothing in New York.
Here's the deal:
The original lineup has in spots 1-9 the following: Al, Ben, Coco A (the LF), Dan, Ed, Frank, George (the SS), Henry and Ivan (the P).
The manager wants to do a double switch, and he tells the umpire he wants Jim to replace Coco A, but bat in the 9 hole, and Coco B to replace Ivan, but bat in the 3 hole. But, he doesn’t want Jim to play LF, he wants him to play SS. He tells Jim to go to SS, have George go to LF, and Coco A to come out of the game. Jim screws it up, though, and George comes out of the game instead of going to LF.
When this happens, Jim is batting in 9th, nobody is batting 7th (where George was hitting), and both Coco A and Coco B are hitting 3rd-Coco A because that’s where he was in the original lineup, and Coco B because that’s where the manager put him when he did the double switch.
Now, as everyone who works at Kruger Industrial Smoothing in New York knows, “We can’t have two Cocos.” After the pitch is thrown, Coco A is an illegal participant and must be replaced by (in this case) Larry. Larry hits in the 7 hole. He (like all the other players on defense) can play wherever the manager wants, but he must hit 7th, the spot vacated by George.
Contrary to what Venom101002 said below, George cannot return. There’s no re-entry in pro baseball (or college); once you leave the lineup, you can’t come back. George could re-enter in HS if he had re-entry rights (I.e., he was a starter who had not already been replaced and re-entered once.)
So, to fix this we have Coco B hitting 3rd, Jim hitting 9th, and Larry hitting 7th. Coco A, Ivan and George are all out of the game and cannot return.
Thanks for clearing that up
On the double switch, Minnesota said the new pitcher will be hitting in the #5 spot. The Twins left fielder was previously hitting in the #5 spot. So he should have been taken out of the game. But he was still playing in left field, when the pitch was thrown. The Twins took the wrong player out of the game. So, the left fielder was removed, and the wrongly removed player was put back in the game, per the fielder re-entry rule.
That makes sense. Do you know anything about the re-entry rule?
According to the umpires, there is a rule where a fielder may re-enter the game, if he was mistakenly removed from the game. They told the managers, it was the fielder re-entry rule. Molitor says he told them the pitcher would bat in the 7th spot, not the 5th, but the umps disagreed. So they let the player re-enter the game. This is the first I've heard of it, in MLB. Most amatuer leagues have a re-entry rule.
Soooooo what was the outcome? 18 minutes and I'm just as confused now as I was when they stopped playing
Here's a transcript from the MLB:
"After the deliberation, the umpires came to a conclusion that the Twins needed to sub Pressly for Rosario in the No. 5 spot and Arianza for Hildenberger in the No. 9 spot and Polanco needed to go back into the game. But Roberts then questioned the crew whether Polanco was able to come back into the game. Barrett initiated a crew-chief review with the Replay Command Center to determine what the correct course of action was, and it was decided that Polanco would be able to check back into the game."
Basically, the lineup was wrong.
@@JameyMcQueen oh good god, all that for that?
worst thing about this video is that horrible Dodger Stadium P.A blaring that music
personally, I never want to experience a baseball rule disagreement again without getting to hear "salt shaker" by the ying yang twins ever again. I am 100% OK with this
settle down
steve b The Dodgers have led baseball in home attendance 5 years in a row cry
That's the BEST thing about this video.
Music is music my friend ✌🏻🎶
Hasn't anyone in the Commissioner's Office heard of the wireless microphone? Or was Vin Scully the only person in Los Angeles with an earpiece and he took it with him when he retired?
Here's the thing, most fans think they know the rules, as do ost announcers, but the fact is they don't know what they don't know. Having the umps mic'ed would only create more misunderstanding and confusion. The Substitution Rule is easily the most confusing rule in existence, and you just saw evidence of it.
Pat Sajack chilling back there when he should be spinning wheels and letters with Vanna.
0:37 Pat Sajak
dodger fans are the most patient fans...in new york you would have heard the boos....
Would have been good time to go get a beer at the stadium and not miss one pitch
francobobfred they stop selling at Top of 6th

and: "Barrett's card had Molitor putting P Matt Belisle in LF for Rosario. When mistake was caught, Twins had to remove Rosario (for Adrianza)."
Twins broadcaster Dick Bremer: "Video shows Lance Barrett looking at Paul Molitor's adjusted lineup card. Seems inexcusable for the umpire to misunderstand intended move."
Phil Miller: "Why did umps allow Jorge Polanco to re-enter game after a pitch had been thrown without him? 'They looked at that as a correctable mistake.' "
So if i understand correctly. The Twins get a penalty for an umpire error. Does not seem right.
As an umpire they all they typically tell you is 23 for 18, 9 for 22. you can't have everyone's roster memorized. And you also don't check the line up card every inning, it's up to the coach to send out the correct change and the correct players.
00:39 seconds, pat sajak! What!?
LOL....It is him...and he is with....HIS NEIGHBOR'S WIFE !!!!!
He was at the Lightning (Tampa) game a week ago. The man travels
curtysven yep
yup, thats pat!! you have to make his money to get seats like that! lol
It's LA. You see celebrities all the time.
Imagine being at this game and they take 20 minutes to fix this bullshit
Never once did the announcers explain what actually happened with the double switch. In 18 minutes. Seriously?
Did they know?
After review, Pat Sajak is in the background.
Man, that DJ is lit..
Ben U. Ikr feel like we're in a club
"a small fundamental problem"
18 minutes of life I will never get back!
Adrianza apparently was to bat 9th (question: was he to replace Polanco at shortstop?) and the new Minnesota pitcher was to go in as #7 batter. What actually happened, due to a miscommunication, was that Adrianza still went into the #9 batting spot, but the new pitcher went into the #5 spot, replacing left fielder Rosario. (The team making these changes is Minnesota, an American League club, and, due to the DH rule, not as familiar with the double switch.)
A video concerning the line up card lasting 18 minutes is the most MLB thing ever.
From what it sounds like. The double switch can be very confusing.
They are making sure that the post game buffet will be on time
its pat sajak at 0:36
LOL....It is him...and he is with....HIS NEIGHBOR'S WIFE !!!!
Pat Sayjack in the crowd lol
the objective is to get the play right!
Maybe the MLB should have the umpires announce their decsions like officials in all pro sports
All I saw was Pat Sajak in the back 😂😂😂
ever since then, i've been looking for vanna
A NL team would know about double switches better than an AL team since the NL does not use the DH most of the time.
ironically posted by MLB
The Manager from the Rangers goofed because he is from an American League team witch does not practice double switches too often. Sadly we will no longer see double switches in baseball now because of the Designated Hitter.
How hard is a double switch lol. Rule book also says it’s up to the opposing team manager if the offending manager gets tossed or not. But you can’t cross the chalk to perform a double switch without going to the home ump first.
Next pitch is very high, very tight, and as hard as the pitcher can throw. "Bob Gibson" rule. "Quit wasting my time punk."
Damn, they play some garbage ass music at that ball park!
But why are they all chewing gum so aggressively
The Twins should have just claimed it was a shift like they do with infielders
The "wrong" nine were on the field. It wasn't just a position issue.
I usually don’t take this long to take a dump.
I bet you Molitor could still rip a double against half of big league pitchers
should have waited till twins batted
Puig should've take a small nap on the bench.
Why did the other manager care?
Molitor has pretty much spent his entire playing & coaching career in the American League. Couldn't manage a National League style Ballgame.
First thing I noticed was Pat Sajak and his wife and daughter in the front row.
Rules are rules if the fans can't deal with that then SCRAM!
i would start booing after 4 minutes....
Managers are the reason the "Pace of Game" rule was put into effect for the 2018 season.
If I had to sit through that "music" I would blow my brains out.
It's not waste of time people, it's time time to go pee and get a drink & snacks. Do this while the game umps are in discussion or between at-bats.
And people want to put pace of play on players? 18 minutes to tell that nothing was wrong? 12 minutes on headset to tell The Dodgers manager that nothing was wrong? If MLB would tell the umpires you have a set time limit from when a challenge is made to make a decision and if it's not done withing that set time limit BOOM pace of play problem fixed Some of these umpires looking at 66,000 angles "Well he looked more out in angle 1 then 2,slow down angle 5 for me..." All that time wasted for them to get it wrong half the time?
I agree. The commissioner thinks 15 seconds to visit the pitcher is what's killing the pace. Only if you're with the cubs. Umps need to speed up.
TreverWhipbuilder Exactly Dave Roberts owner pl ayers wanted to kill him half way through that lol
But they also need to umpire the game correctly, so taking more time to get eveyone on page it worth it , rather than having a debate over it later if it was a wrong decision
Jordan Romero I agree with that but you have to agree this took WAY TOO LONG The "supposed"
to be" limit is 2 minutes. I think that is still too long but that is reasonable. If you can't tell in 2 minutes if he is out or safe the call stands.
Arthur Prior Did you even watch the video? There was something wrong, Paul Molitor made an incorrect double switch which forced Rosario to leave the game. They don’t take this long if there’s no purpose
20 freakin minutes to deal with this bullshit. SMH
223l
20 minutes to "review a double switch"? And they're trying to speed up the pace of play but do this... Wtf
18 minutes of rigorous booing should have been pelted on the umps....
oops...here comes the boo birds...it's getting louder in here....
these umpire reviews will ruin baseball ,, how untraditioal
Is there an explanation somewhere in this video? Kind of dumb just watching people stand around when no one knows what's going on.
It came afterward, here: www.mlb.com/twins/news/twins-dodgers-game-delayed-over-double-switch/c-244409294 Dave Roberts ended up being right...the pitcher should have been in the 5 spot and Polanco had to be in the game. The Dodgers are known for being sticklers for the rules. Not too long ago, Mike Scioscia of the Angels launched a protest over another rules violation (the crew chief ended up suspended 2 games for that; the protest was denied because the Angels came back to win that game).
lets shorten the game. sounds good. give me 20 minutes. baseball :(
Fans are getting pissed because of that god awful shitty music
Ok we get it. Bob Geren knows the fucking rules! FFS!
why do they all chew likes cows! thats disgusting!
18 minutes...this is why MLB is dead.
Dodgers making a big waste of time for nothing....
What is that un-Godly racket coming out of the stands? Can't be music.
18mins?! This is why baseball is so BORING!
Man, could you make baseball any more boring than that.
MLB promotes the game like this on RUclips?
Give me a break.
Might not click on MLB again!
Guess I'll watch another police chase.
