I just ordered this palette as my first makeup purchase post acoustic neuroma brain surgery. I had been prepared for frankly my death or facial paralysis upon waking. I am thrilled to be alive and recovering with minimal effects. Looking forward to playing bass again next month and adjusting to single sided deafness. This is my victory palette, and for my style is absolutely wearable every day. Thank you for the excellent review!
So…Pat makes her palettes for more melanin toned clients. We have 5,000 palettes for everyone from Caucasia. The reason she chooses pinks is because they will look different on olive complexion due to the naturally darker eyelids. Plus it allows her to avoid “orange” to be more color inclusive. Yes, it may seem limiting to the masses but she’s also appealing to a huge demographic that may feel left out. If I look at a Pat McGrath makeup look from 1997 and I look at one from 2015, I don’t see much variance or time stamping from either period. She creates curated classic beauty looks. Since fashion often gets flack for making everything in the same Pantone color scale, I suppose Mother should probably take the brunt for this, too. Either way people are still buying it! Thank you for your perspective. I love this palette the most of all. It feels perfect in the silver shine on the lid. To me, it’s perfect companion palette is Mothership I.
I am personally glad I skipped this palette. It’s beautiful of course and you look lovely in all the shades and looks you created. It’s just wasn’t for me. I don’t really get to use all the ones I even have, and with a tighter budget; I just didn’t feel like this one was worth it for me. Thank you for such an amazing review and deep in depth description of the product and vs. others too! Such a wonderful job!!!💕🤗
Thanks Sofia. Beautiful work as usual. I think it’s a nice palette. Nothing to write home about, but nice. A ranking would be lovely. Still haven’t found the Chanel fave palette. Let me know if you find so where who will post to Australia will you? That would be so kind. Maddy
Soooo you read my mind in your final thoughts. I'm waiting to buy my first pat palette, and I was hoping this was it but you nailed it on the head...its the 2 burgundy colored mattes that kill it for me. I'm canadian so this will be over $200 to buy. I feel like she needs to pull a natasha denona glam palette and do a light and dark version for different skin tones to reach a broader demographic. Because putting in 2 lighter neutral mattes would have sold it for me but on darker skin they wouldn't.
I recently acquired the palette on sale and have deeper skin and even I didn't need both those wine or burgundy shades. I use her Statuesque single with the palette or some other taupe or mid-tone brown. PMG might need to do like Sydney Grace and make two versions. Also, I wish she'd change the packaging, I can't see myself traveling with her palettes.
Those 2 looks are amazing! I would love a ranking video now that there's 11! With the sale trying to figure out which 2 palettes to go with. Def want DR1, but for the 2nd I'm trying to decide between subliminal, huetopian dream and now moonlit seduction because your looks were so beautiful! Will probably do 1 & 7. I'd get the most use from those 2.
Love this review. Finally an honest review that this palette deserves. I wanted to flip a table so bad when i saw it (and I’m not a very angry person by nature). The thing that brings me down even more is that she seems to be continuing with this annoying pink theme in mothership 11 as well😭😭😭😭😭
I have purchased the palette and was not sure if I would keep it. I love the looks you created and they look incredible on you and happy you did this video and review. Great job! I cannot thank you enough. I just love the colors and want to try a couple of looks and the platinum color was the one I was not sure about and you did a light enough look for me. Ty.
Totally agree with all your final thoughts. Your swatches, and how you grouped them were super helpful. I’m definitely skipping this. The only shade that really excites me is the platinum.
LOVE how you present the like swatches together instead of how most folks do by just swatching them all together. The way you present them is so helpful for me to see them together by texture/formula. Thanks for comparing Mothership X to the other Mothership palettes, super helpful!!!! I can’t say it’s my favorite as I was hoping for something more vibrant and unique considering it is her tenth palette. She has introduced soooo many pinky purple palettes while those are some of my favorite shades. Like you, I wanted something out of this world but this didn’t hit the mark. Yet, I love PML so I’ll pick it up but the palette is uninspiring. I feel like she is targeting newer consumers instead of those of us who have been using her products since day one. This should have brought the Boom Pow Wow but it just brought “Here you go, enjoy”🤣🤣 With that, I’m picking it up but I’ll wait for a sale because we all know it’s coming
Hahaha I think you summed up my thoughts exactly! I am so glad you like the swatches. I started doing it this way and I've heard the same thing from many subscribers!
Hi Sofia 🥰 i've been waiting for this vid from you specifically, always the best, most comprehensive reviews on the platform 🤗❤ Ok... so the Mothership X. So many feelings. I was kinda expecting something *really* special for the 10th one, maybe all blitz astral shades? 🤔 That being said, even though many people seem underwhelmed or bored with more rosy neutral palettes, I personally LOVE this colour story, this is the first "*ME*" mothership 🤌 The brand is losing my interest though, so idk if i'll end up picking it up. If so, ONLY 30% off at least.... sigh 🤷♀️ All the love ❤ Sophie x
I love how much extra you give to your reviews. I feel conflicted about this palette. I feel as though the mattes don’t necessarily match the shimmer/astral shades. I wish she would stop with the rose mattes, I think she could have done a lilac purple or even a pale white-based blue shade. I think that would have gone better with the moonlight theme
I was waiting so badly for your review!!!! Thanks for posting it. I LOVE these looks, I can see myself totally recreating them. You have amazing taste!!!!
Thank you for showing wearable looks! While I appreciate the artistry of some of the other looks I’ve seen, I want to see the basic looks to see if it’s worth it for me on the every day! I love the looks you created. And yes yes yes the perfect neutral palette would be amazing!
I wish that it had a mustard shade but other than that it’s perfect but otherwise it’s very cohesive. I’m working on curating a matte singles neutral palette
Hi Sofia - great video! I have all of the PM Mothership palettes and agree with you - wish this was the perfect neutral palette instead of a mix of finishes and colors that don’t quite make sense. She seems to be trying to please a wide range of people here - like if she only put 2 astral shades in but added some neutral mattes or shimmers there would be a group who would complain. Who knows, but I do really like this palette and have been using it daily to create very wearable looks. I prefer a couple of others to this one, though. My favorite is Midnight Sun, but I also love Huetopian Dream and Divine Rose One. Love your content- thanks for your honest opinions! 💋
Yes great point 😂 there will always be someone who was hoping for something different! It sounds like we have the same taste because Midnight Sun is my fave too 😇
I LOVE Pat McGrath (I have almost all the Motherships-I get one each time is see a deep discounted sale on her site). I really appreciate that you showed more soft and “wearable” looks. I love something super dramatic, but it’s so nice to see all the kinds of looks you can get! I want to recreate the 2 looks you made! Subscribing right now!
Beautiful looks you create with this palette. The best that I have seen! Yes, very wearable. Good for day or night. I like this palette a lot, but, I’ll wait for a sale. I have Divine Rose 1 and 2. But….sometimes I find Divine 1 alittle too cool toned for me. I use DR 2 more than the DR1. I guess you can combined them, for even more looks. Her shimmers & Astral shades are great on my lids. Her mattes are smooth. I skipped the Bronze Seduction one, cos the mattes look too dark, no transition shade in that one, and that deep red, wouldn’t be for me. Agree. Too bad there weren’t different colored mattes in this palette. I would have bought it right away.
Thank you 🥰 I like the rose single matte in the top row and also the grey/brown on the second row. It's the plum shade I'm not so sure of - maybe a lighter brown would have worked better. Still going to buy it when it's in the sale though! 😁 X
I am a huge Pat nerd, and I completely agree that the two mattes are the Achilles heel of this palette. They limit the looks to be in the rosy-plum family. Also, I am not a huge fan of the change in the astral/blitz shades from baked to pressed pan. I think the baked formula is superior and this palette loses something by not having them. Indeed, I would not recommend this to first time Pat users....they just won't have the ultimate Pat Mothership experience with this one.
@@SofiaSeesBeauty The 4 "special" shades have typically always been baked (so that's the astral, blitz and vr shades) but in this palette they are all pressed into a pan instead. You can see that because of the metal pan ring around. If you take an older palette, then you will see the baked shades are baked into the pan, no metal ring. Except the multichrome in Huetopain which was also pressed. Personally, I am not a fan of this choice. I find the baked formulas to be more sophisticated and interesting but that's because I am a mega Pat nerd 🤣.
Great job as always on reviewing this palette. I love the look you have in the video and it makes me want this palette, but not until it goes on sale. And yes, more plum shades, yikes, enough already and that is why it is not worth paying full price for it but to me it looks like it may be some nice colors in there for fall. Would you consider mentioning the brushes you use in your videos or maybe list them? I am looking for some brushes and it seems like the ones you use get the job done right.
Hi Isabela! Most of the brushes are a mix of Sonia G, Rephr, and BK Beauty. I have a promo code for BK Beauty so I will also include that in the description for you if you want to save some money
Haha I don’t get the pink crease obsession either in her past 4 palettes but I love this colour story and I can always use it along with any other palette. Having said that, given I own all of the 9 Mothership 10 pans I’ll probably wait for one of her deep discounts 6 month or so from now. Lovely review 😍 New subscriber here and I was sold immediately the moment you mentioned the brands you review 😊
i seem to love all the odd numbers the most in the Mothershps: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 are all wins in my book haha! i was waiting to see what this color story would be before choosing Huetopian as my next PMG palette (or perhaps her holiday release this year!)... i agree Huetopian is a little tween for me (i'm actually not into the lavendar sparkle) but overall i find the color story very versatile and wearable, including as blush shades. the even numbered releases aren't for me. i'm hypothesizing that $3 increase was to make up for her sale glitch haha ;).
I just subscribed to your channel today after seeing your review on the new retro glam palette but I'm wondering do you do any actual tutorials or do you just talk about the palette and swatch it?
Welcome Tiffany! In all of my reviews I do at least one look and walk through how I got the look. I don’t do many videos dedicated to just tutorials because they don’t get any views. It’s usually a comprehensive review of the product
I’m gonna pass on this palette unless there’s a good deal on it. There’s nothing special about this palette and I find it boring, but the looks you created are stunning as always!
I would love to see a neutral palette from PM! I’m tired of the purples and pinks
I would say Divine Rose I is a neutral palette. There's more gold and bronze shades in there than pink.
I would say MS I: subliminal appears to be pretty darn neutral in a PM kinda way ~~ minus the cobalt navy blue ~~ I ordered MS I bundled with the MS X on the PM site during the sale this past week, so I will see if it truly is neutral when I get my hands on it ~~ it could be a super cool toned palette, we shall see.

I hear you! If I wasn’t a collector of the motherships specifically or if it was an indie brand I am not sure if I would have gotten it.
Great review Sofia, I’m hoping to get heutopian dream and moonlit seduction when there’s a sale 🙂
Thanks for watching Liz! Heutopian dream is in my top two I think 🥰🥰

I'd like you will do a pat mc graft ranking palette, and the same that this video with the utopian palette. Thank you for your honest opinion.
Good idea! I should do a ranking video
And I really agree with you about the mattes that are to close in tone
Sofia can you review the Gucci Limited Ed palette?! :)
I got it. It’s better than the first one and I loved the first one. They’re also going to offer refills soon too. 🙌🏼🥰
Good to know!!
I’m still on the edge of getting this !!! 🤔 my fave palettes are # 3 and 7
Ooo I love the bright colors in #3

I have albinism and don’t mind the mattes being deep because of how they blend.
