  • The FMF calls on South African political parties to embrace a 'no-alition' confidence-and-supply approach over forming coalition governments. With no clear majority winner in the recent election, FMF advocates for respecting voters' choice by avoiding artificial majoritarian regimes.

Always trust David Ansara and the FMF to see through the haze and come up with something different by not just following traditional thinking. If we had people like this running government, SA would be pushing ahead instead of being in a death spiral.

This is by far the best option for our country at the moment. It makes good sense because radicalism will be kept at bay and the lack of sevices to the populous of the past shall be addressed immediately. Put party politics asside, reject radicalism and get the weels of democtacy rolling fast - the voters are longing for it and they are waiting. A radical coalition cannot deliver, no matter how you look at it. show me a country where it has worked - not for the pockets of the dictators but for the voters.

That's federalism in a nutshell. The ANC despises federalism because they know it will make their stranglehold on power (i.e. patronage schemes for connected cadres) very difficult to maintain. While I agree that federalism is exactly what SA needs right now, the stubborn and arrogant ANC is still a very large obstacle that must be chipped away piecemeal. At a local and municipal level this trend is already underway - we just need to keep at it.

The constitution does allow it. What he is suggesting is that the DA will vote alongside the ANC as if they are in formal coalition, but that vote is only guaranteed for the minimum functioning of parliament. I.e. the vote includes to elect speaker, deputy speaker, president, deputy president and the budget vote. Every other bill or decision taken by parliament will then be open for debate and contestation as each party sees fit. In that way, it will be constitutional.

@@comalisothinktanking4412 Nope, there is no law that says there must be majority support to form a government. In order to elect key positions in the government, all the MPs in government need to vote for those positions (if more than two candidates, then "knock out rounds" are used until only two remain). The candidate who receives 50% plus 1 of the MP votes, win. Some of those key positions are speaker, deputy speaker, president, and deputy. Once the president is appointed, he alone appoints the cabinet ministers. In order to pass laws, all the MPs also vote, if the vote gets 50% plus 1, it can be passed (and then some other processes takes place), and then the law can be passed. So what matters is not the majority votes of the people of SA, what matters is the majority votes of the elected members of parliament. That's why SA is called a "representational democracy"... because the people elect leaders who in theory represent them in parliament.

Hi David, I urge you to interview Lauren Evanthia (The leader of The Organic Humanity Movement or OHM) - not to sway opinion but rather listen to The Plan that she formulated to overcome, amongst others, the current coalition issues plaguing SA. Every SA citizen strives for it but no one knows how. PLEASE🙏🙏

Hi in my ignorance how does no-alition affect the individual provinces. I am very unsetlled wtih the Rob Hersov recent interview with Biz News where he advocates cutting KZN loose. Does decentralisation of the government basically throw KZN to the wolves? (not sure who the wolves are at the moment. Seemingly MK and EFF but with the Rob Hersov interview it seems nobody to be trusted?) thanks

In this proposal for a no-alition, the MK will probably have to figure out a way to obtain majority in KZN, through bribing some ANC members to vote with them and formal coalition with EFF or IFP (the numbers don't add up otherwise). Another option for KZN would be a no-alition between ANC, IFP, DA and NFP (where IFP said they want to position of premier). The situation in KZN is quite messy, even more messy than the situation nationally. That's part of why I don't like the no-alition plan. I think a formal coalition is needed to stabilise kzn (not cutting it loose as per Herzov's suggestion, instead roping in the zulu monarchy and IFP leadership for social cohesion, along with DA competencies and ANC support for extra police and army deployments if needed). I don't like Herzov's suggestion because only 2 million people voted for MKP but there are 10 million people in KZN. Durban could be a major source of tourism employment... it could be the Miami of Africa, given the correct leadership. Plus the Durban and Richardsbay ports are essential for imports and exports for the rest of the country. If KZN is controlled by MK, living conditions will only get worse and that will stoke even more militaristic Zulu spring tendencies, and what then? Will the newly formed Zulu army march on the rest of the country? Rather take charge of the situation now, by improving people's lives, strong leadership and social cohesion efforts, before its too late.

Cant we just once and for all come together. It's the only way otherwise we will always be divided. I think DA and ANC coalition is the only way to move forward in S.A. Maybe then the people will see we can work together and rebuild together. We exist together therefor we must work together. It's a no brainer to me.
