More critically to India, Trump is someone who believes in prioritizing Asia over Europe. I think many Indians have an old view of American conservatives, where they think they are dominated by bible thumping cold war hawks. But the reality is that things have changed, that faction has almost totally lost power, and America is now a secular society and not a religious one. Most young American conservatives are either non believers or do not place much importance on religion. I understand there is a belief in India that the Republicans want to support missionaries converting people, and perhaps for historical reasons this was a perfectly valid concern, but at this point it's simply not something 99.9% of Americans are thinking about. I think the fact that someone like Vivek Ramaswamy was able to gain such a following in the Republican primary as a proud Hindu (in one of the most Christian states in the country mind you) reflects that most people have moved past this. At this point the Republicans are going to be significantly more friendly to India than any Biden admin because they recognized the need to keep Asia multi-polar and want to work with India on balancing China. Biden is more dovish and continually bets on "cooperation" and "engagement" with China which is a dead end and hurts India. America should be cooperating and engaging with India instead. Mr. Gupta paints American foreign policy as a division between isolationists (right) and liberal internationalists (left), neither of which are good for India. But there is a third faction, the "prioritizers" on the right, led by people like Elbridge Colby who would likely be in a prominent role in any future Trump administration.

At this point the Republicans are going to be significantly more friendly to India than any Biden admin because they recognized the need to keep Asia multi-polar and want to work with India on balancing China. Biden is more dovish and continually bets on "cooperation" and "engagement" with China which is a dead end and hurts India. America should be cooperating and engaging with India instead. Mr. Gupta paints American foreign policy as a division between isolationists (right) and liberal internationalists (left), neither of which are good for India. But there is a third faction, the "prioritizers" on the right, led by people like Elbridge Colby who would likely be in a prominent role in any future Trump administration.

First, if Biden choose to not come (there was never any official word from Indian side about inviting him....there might be preliminary discussion and Garceti might have jumped the gun while India decided not to go ahead with Biden due to Pannu incident.. It's very much possible) then he missed a chance to improve his falling rating in an election year as Modi is no doubt much popular than him and he would have been surely benefited by sharing dias with him.
Second, Trump is no doubt very practical and focus on domestic but that no way translate into overlooking American overseas interests...he just don't want to do free service for all which makes perfect sense in new economic scenario.
Third, absence of America doesn't translate into China filling in.... Afghanistan is a case in point... China tried but failed. China is more of an economic power than a military power and can best be handled thru economic measures.... The day it cease to be world's factory it will cease to be threat to international rule based order.... World powers understand that and measures are put in place... It will take time... May be a decade.. But will be done.
