    Im so angry. My friend, who just recently lost her husband to a cardio event, who suffers from high blood pressure, osteoporosis, is very overweight, varicose veins, just came back from visiting the doctor, same person who was treating her husband and was told to increase consumption of milk and cheese because of calcium. I tried to explain but was shut down with "I trust her". I feel sick to my stomach.

      btw, she already eats cheese products daily, now I am listening to her make an appointment with a cardiologist, great next level up of "medication" It is hard to watch friends kill themselves and others

      @@kathryntokarska1738 Gosh I wish I was a dietitian already. I could tell her how doctors don't recieve nutrition education in medical school. Ask her if she can consult a dietitian. If you have the means to. I would schedule a dietitian appointment with a plant based dietitian for her. Get her in front of someone who can actually reverse her chronic illness.

    It has been 6 years now that I stopped eating all animal products, and must admit that my diet isn't always perfect and 2020 has been hard. I wish I had started decades earlier and it really was one of the best things I could have done for my health. I was born with a congenital heart condition (tetrology of fallots) and have had 4 heart surgeries. I am lucky in that the doctors I see have not judged me on my diet choice, and havn't said anything silly like you need to eat dairy or meat. I have tried to convince family members to change their diets and to remove animal products but to no evail, which is really upsetting.

    When I cut out salt completely, my bp went all the way down to 115/70. That's like my middle school numbers. But I got some unwanted side effects in the form of leg cramps. Bananas did not help, so I went back to eating minimal salt.

    When I hear eating vegan will solve all of my problems I was okay with that. When I heard cutting salt back in my diet I was okay with that. But I heard so little even from other vegans that I needed to reduce the fat in my diet. I find that excruciating ly difficult. Any advice.

      Are you familiar with Dr. Barnard's book on diabetes? Lots of info there on fat and its negative effects. Personally, after going whole food plant based, when I cut out oil (olive oil in cooking and oils in processed vegan foods) I saw drastic improvement in all my blood tests around cholesterol and diabetic markers. You can do it - one step at a time.

      It's mainly saturated fat which has to be avoided so that means avoiding coconut oil, palm oil and shea fat but avoiding all oil would be even better and get the good fats polyunsaturated & monounsaturated fat through whole plant foods.

    • @Lp78Ch
      @Lp78Ch 3 года назад +2

      It's not that difficult. Cook with water, or bake the food (with no added oils), or eat raw food. I don't miss fried foods at all. I get the fat from soy, nuts, seeds, and avocados. One added bonus to this no-oil diet: pots and pans are easy to wash!!
      I tried going salt-free, but I got horrible cramps in my legs as a result. I guess I do need some sodium.

    • @tedjay1312
      @tedjay1312 3 года назад

      Whole fats is good from nuts, seeds and avocados. These contain the fibre and other nutrition together with the fat content.
      Bad fats is saturated fat found in coconut oil, meat and dairy. Processed food which can have too much oil and any plant based oil - these are the fats to remove.

    Good presentation. What damage is done to the brain causing cognitive decline? If it thickening or arteries such as arteriosclerosis then I am confused. Since the heart artery walls damage can often be reversed by changing to a plant diet, then why is the same brain damage irreeversible?

    Dr. even if you are 60+ would you say that your blood pressure should be 120/80. Don’t you think that the margin should be a little higher, as ones organs are no more of a new born. Thanks.

    I tried cutting salt out of my diet completely and ended up 5 days in the hospital on a sodium drip from low sodium in my blood. They even sent me home with salt pills, I guess the trouble was I was drinking too much fluids at the same time....but still. Wish someone would have told me of this danger.

      Big slice of watermelon... When stomach gets a bit streched, it's receptors activate parasymphatic nervous system through vagus nerve. Whilst you feed your good gut bugs with variety of fibers, they in turn make satiety hormones like P-YY and GLP-1 and your serotonine -level (and mood with it) will rise. And If you already went and ate a huge slice of cake, don't worry🙂, blame my typing error when writing previous answer with one finger on my phone and just continue with watermelon 😊
