This is like throwing a party and everyone trying to debate what song should be played first. The DCU tells an over arching story yes but these projects are all individual, we have to get out of that MCU mindset that everything has to be an origin story, linear, and be connected constantly leading from one project to another, that’s exactly why people became fatigued with marvel.
No, people became fatigued with Marvel because the executives made the decision to switch from telling solid stories to preaching, politicizing, and generally NOT telling solid stories. As for the DCU, there’s nothing wrong with individual projects. It’s more so the QUALITY of those projects that I’m questioning.
Besides which, James Gunn has personally seen to it that neither CC nor Superman will be "individual" projects. Both are going to be heavily connected to his DCEU stuff.
I haven’t seen it yet, but in the defence of what James Gunn said - these projects won’t all be essential viewing for each other and it’ll just be a bunch of stories that take place in the same universe. In that case and as long as the series don’t bleed into the films then I’m fine with that.
James Gunn himself said that the true start of the DCU will be the Superman movie. It seems likely that the projects currently being released were already in pre-production, and canceling them outright would just result in a significant financial loss for Warner Bros. and DC Studios right now. Like by releasing these projects they're not only recouping some of the investments but also keeping some fans engaged while they gear up for the full REAL DCU reboot, which is Superman: Legacy. Either way this transitional phase or whatever allows James Gunn and the DCU to slowly transition and bridge the gap between the old and new vision for the franchise!!!
@@d2.deetwo I hear you, but the decision to even do PRE-production in this show was made AFTER Gunn took over. He has spoken about how he greenlighted it himself. So he could easily have just tossed it AS WELL AS his film Superman and started with content that made more of a complete break with the DCU. Or, if not that, he could’ve at least just STARTED with Superman and reworked it for the DCU.
I'm sorry, my friend; but I must disagree. Especially when the episodes are fewer than thirty minutes long and are all part of one ongoing story. That model works with Network TV, where you've got between thirteen and twenty-six episodes, most of which are filler or only add casually to the overall narrative, and where only five or six episodes REALLY advance the plot. Either way, everyone knows Superman is going to be much more profitable than Creature Commandos, and there's nothing anyone can do to change that. And does it work? Yeah, it works.
There's a very simple way to give the audience a taste while not making a bad first showing for the brand. And that is to START IT WITH A TACTICALLY SOUNDER SHOW.

CC is soft corn and potentially worse, and a very niche project. Not a way to start a cinematic universe for the general audience. And Superman doesn't look good.
