@@simplenginday6170 That name was for a certain group of warriors, and not the majority of the people in the Philippines. How the heck can that name represent the whole country? Filipinos are majorly Christians, however, that alone cannot describe a Filipino. There are Filipinos that are Muslims and of course our ancestors were divided and animists before Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc. arrived. Filipinos are diverse, and Filipino Christianity and Islam has evolved differently from where it originated like in Indonesia. The name Philippines fits perfectly for the diversity which reflects and explains the merging of foreign and native culture such as belief and languages.

I agree with people that we should look to udnerstand our pre-colonial history more and try to out that into our education systems and try to implement this culture maybe in our cities or country, but at the same time our status now and during Spanisha dn American times is still soemthing we must resepct and embrace. For example, the country is a christian majority country and has been like this since like the 1700s.
I know we could've Muslim or Hindu before, but when people say filipinos were forced or whatveer. For one before Spanish came it seemed filipinos were a mix of other religions and were even converted like with islam, when the Moors came they were are also "converted" like the Spanish. The point is it's so long and I agree we should try to put respect into our roots but so many filipinos and argaubly most are diehard christians and Muslims like in Mindano and all over the country.
ALso our culture is still very unique and still very traditional and before colonial times. Tagalog probably has changed a lot and maybe the country had a traditional language but even western countries like England and France changed their langauge over the years. In general Tagalog is still very distinct and filipino. Also comapred to Native Aemricans in America or even what you see in South America, at least we speak something very distinct and unique. Mexicans in Sotuh America don't even speak their Mayan or Aztec language. At least we still have a hige part of our culture and langauge still intact and in general our sense of idenity.
Just saying all our influences and hisotry should be respected for my opinion.

Thus we should not embrace Roman Catholicism. A seminarista once shared to me that if we don’t have a religion, the world is in chaos. It’s true but should we embrace other countries belief? In Cebu, we have sinulog, do Spaniards do also have their own Festival as Sinulog? Seems there is a merge of belief. Roman Catholic and Pintados, Ancient Filipino (and also, how are we called before, I’m sure it’s not Filipino which derives from King Philip 2, Spains King during that time).
So sad, that we are free yet we are not embracing our own identity.

+Allan Smithson The Americans DID take photos of the Cordillerans and the Aetas. The video maker just ignored those photos. The Muslim south being "richer" is your opinion. I would say the animist North has a RICHER and MORE unique culture than the Southern Muslim Philippines.

    • @allansmithson1985
      @allansmithson1985 9 лет назад

      Singkil Filipinas
I mentioned that the South has a richer history than the North because the Muslims kept record of their history. They wrote what happened to them and were able to preserve their history more successfully compared to the Cordillerans, whose history is mostly oral history in form. Mind you, I am not putting down the history of the North. They also have a colorful and unique history as well.
The disadvantages of a mostly oral history is when something happens and the person responsible for the oral traditions is killed, it will be difficult to remember. If they (the Cordillerans) had chosen to write their history then it would have been easier to preserve and hide during wartime. That's why I said that the Muslims have a richer history compared to that of the Cordillerans.

    • @singkilfilipinas5574

Allan Smithson "Muslims kept record of their history". This can be true... I mean, the Sulu and the Maguindanao Sultanates are the civilized states of the Southern Philippines. But for the sake of being correct, please link me to their written history that they themselves documented.

Same theis as blacks in America and the Caribbean. The True Israelites .It says it i, the bible. The fake Jews you see in Israel now are not the original bloodline Jews. They're converts. I'm so called African American but I don't go by that name given. ( That's another story? My people also is lost and dont know themselves. They are stuck in White form of Christianity. They say people of the Philippines are part of the lost tribe of Napthali in the bible. This might be highly true with the lost of idenity and the suffering were going through.

Indonesian, Malaysian, Philippine and even those in the Thai/Viet peninsula are all very similar as far as ancient culture. All of our major "foreign" influences, I feel, are from China/India but we are all Malay peoples and I think we should all embrace this. I use quotes on foreign because there was so much exchange and intermingling with these cultures that it seemed appropriate.

We should really embrace our pre and post colonial identity. I mean, most of these traditions shown in the videos are still well alive and practiced amongst our indigenous peoples. If you're truly sincere in wanting to *embrace* your Filipino identity why not start by reconnecting old beliefs or visit the indigenous communities across Philippines? I wanna thank you stranger for making this video because I'm actually making researches on precolonial Pinas and her architectures. The culture you are saying as "badass" is foreign in the Philippine archipelago. Borneans were invaders and iconoclasts. We weren't Muslims before (we worship idols, unlike those Muslims) and the Muslims were raiding our towns for slave-hunting even before the arrival of the Spaniards.

For example I was watching the Filipino channel at m in-laws house and what I seen is that the main stream actors are half white and Filipino... And the pure Filipino are like 2nd string. Actors.. Another example is that I went into a Filipino Bakery and I was just looking around and guess what I seen.. I seen a brand of bread called " White King"... I said to myself, these bastards sure know how to fuk up the world with their brainwashing tactics... Everyone this caveman go he causes death, destruction, atrocities, lies, and the list goes on... I asked my wife, what has whites as a whole race done ...... ( I knew the answer) She said nothing... I said agreed.. They have more cons than pros on their resume.

str8alphamale but there are still many of us "Filipinos" who still follows our old culture and is aware of the white man atrocities. If you see a Filipino with some tattoos related with our ancient alphabet called baybayin or alibata then thats likely a non christian filipino.
As a pagan filipino and from my experience, its impossible to unchain the minds of 3rd world people who where brainwashed by white fantasies and white religions.

+My daily videos of life.. No people in history ever adopt a new religion or culture without being forced. It is always forced on the people being conquered to conquer their minds. If you have a people's mind, you control their body. And that is the purpose of all religions. Arabs use Islam and Europeans use Christianity to conquer other people's land. You can look at some many examples in history as proof.

+YesEthan And more Filipinos should be asking what was the spiritual practice of the Filipino people before Islam was forced onto them. But that info is not around or easy to find because whenever an invader comes in, he destroys anything that opposes their culture and replaces it with their culture. Just look at was done to the native "Americans" in "America". They made them stop speaking their native language and made them speak English. Made the natives attend their school and become indoctrinated in European culture.

When Spaniards reached our islands, people accept Christianism but still practicing animism Thats why Folk Catholisism exists (meaning ancient practice and catholicism collide)
Same with Japan,Japanese people praised Kami (gods of nature) . when missionaries in china reached japan they introduced buddhism to japan , Japanese people accepted buddhism and praised buddha as Kami also.

The philippines is a melting pot of many cultures and this holds true even before the time of the Spaniards. Cultural Anthropological studies suggest that before the continents broke off from a single land mass, ancient tribes used to walk across and settle in different lands. Such is the case of the australian bush tribes evolving into what the aetas are of today. In any case being filipino means many things to many filipinos but the unifying factor which ties us all together is the fact that we remain proud and true to our ancestral origins.

Before Christian & Islam, the ancestors of Filipinos were in fact Buddhist. They were Vajrayana Buddhists to be precise. This is called "Diamond Way" form of Buddhism and involves Mudras, Mantras, and Mandalas. It is related to Tibetan Buddhism and one sect in Japan called Shingon-shu. This was the first world religion in Philippines. They discovered Gold Avalokiteshvara statues made by ancient Filipinos.

Get your facts right..There were light skinned Filipinos before too because of the dominance of Mongoloid genes in some communities.

They are not true Filipinos because innthe first place Philippines is the most diverse entire Malay Archipelago and the center of trading most of ASEAN PEOPLE flew away and trade here soke of them settled before magellan explored our shores. Wood that interlocked into each other to hold against earthquakes and typhoon similar to Korean and Japanese pagodas. We can say that Austronesian is also a genetic type since the term is carried with human movement associated with language and people. The Human Genealogy Project clearly shows genetic data across different ethnic groups in Southeast Asia. There is a pattern and that ethnic groups in the Philippines have an 80+90% Austronesian genotype more than any other group in the region. Then the genetic trace decreases southwards. The Melayu of Malaysia are more genetically diverse.

I'm just putting this out there because I'm filipino and I'm seeing a lot of Filipinos know the comments who are so eager to hold and defend the name of "Philippines" and our glorified oppression and colonization for centuries-- if the Philippines stopped being a country, nothing would change for me in terms of identity. I would say, "oh were no longer the philippines? Alright, I guess we can stop calling ourselves Filipinos. I will just refer to myself with the region I am from which is Mindanao. I will forever identify as Mindanaoan." It makes no difference anyway. We are not a homogeneous culture. There are over a hundred languages and ethnic groups in the philippines each with different beliefs. So I ask that we all evaluate ourselves individually as a race and reform our identity.

nice vid. . .although our history is like a puzzle, that some of its pieces is hidden behind its old colinizers. . .we have a very rich history, we have a written record in history in chinese books, other neighboring nation, I hope that someday, may ipapanganak na Filipino sa susunod na salinlahi na gustong malaman ang pingmulan nang kanyang lahi. . .our past is like a guide for what will we be in the future

Yes I have a copy of recent data from the Human Genealogy Project. The haplogenes of native Melayus are far different from the ethnic groups of the Philippines the same way that different ethnic groups in our country have slightly different genetic compositions as well. If you'd like to see the results, I'd be glad to show you.

@pansitkantonify What do you mean? I see many filipinos here looking like local malays and indonesians. Sometimes it's hard to tell filipinos apart from Indonesians because they look the same 0_0

@freedfighter96 The similarity is because we were both colonized by Spain. :) Although we stopped speaking in Spanish, the values they instilled in Filipinos (e.g. Christianity) stuck. That's why we're the only Christian country in Asia. :)

@theshitaIker actually, there are records dating back to the time of Magellan showing Spanish/Portugese colonists mixing/marrying filipina natives. It was not countrywide, but it was significant nonetheless

We have several indigenous philosophies like karma and gaba which are all rooted from Hindu. Our Catholic traditions through how we do festivals also resemble so many Hindu rituals that have been buried with Christian labels. We have ancient mythologies that are aligned to Hindu deities and heroes. There are some Filipinos who have last names with Sanskrit and Malay roots.
