That is sooo weird whan a US citizen, born and raised in the US, is being called the nationality of their ancestors. His father was born in Illinois, not in Germany. Especially when I am from Europe as well. He neither has a swedish nor a german passport. Even his parents (at least his father, didn't find the info on his mother) were born and raised in the US. From my point of view, he's as US as it gets. He is a (at least) second generation US Citizen. I understand the sentiment, but boy is the US fixation on their ancestors weird for outsiders.
@@mephisto8101 The ethnicity of the ancestors is how we identify each other. Because the ethnicity of the ancestors is what dictates your home cuisine, how you celebrate holidays (and what foods you cook), what your family structure is like, etc etc etc. The US is a country of immigrants who do not assimilate to a standard cultural norm. Families keep most of the traditions of their ethnic heritage. So as an American, when I get to know another American, eventually I'm interested to know their ethnic heritage, because now I have the complete picture of how they live their life and what their family is like. Lot is an understatement. I literally watch Conan because of Andy. Conan is funny. But Andy is funnier. Infact he could have had his own show. He had to be really quick during interviews and still whatever words come out of his mouth are just too good. I have seen multiple times Conan losing the track of the conversation or interview gets awkward & Andy says something which just makes people laugh immediately.
I love Andy, he contributed constantly to Conan’s interviews by adding funny comments and giving Conan moments to laugh and riff. RIP Ed McMahon, but Andy changed the game for comedy talk show co-hosts. Not going to call him a sidekick, he’s earned better.
Andy calls himself a sidekick and he says it's what he wants to be. So it's not taking anything away from him... He knows he could be called more but he loves that so I call him a sidekick for that reason only even though when I call Andy a sidekick it means so much more than when I call lets say Robin a sidekick to batman.
Andy was awesome on the Conan O'Brien show...will always be one of my favorites because of the kind, funny person he showed us he was during his years with Conan.
In the year 2000 skit they did together with Conan was always top quality. I remember they did that still after 2000 and it became even funnier because of that.
Conan really is a force of nature. I can see why he didn’t have to say much, or get a chance to. Andy on Arrested Development is one of my favorite parts of the show. I’m glad I got to see him shine on that show!
I watched Conan from the very beginning and at first I have to be honest I didn't get that the brilliance of Andy. It wasn't until he came back to the show years later I realized how stupid I was for not seeing his absolute genius! I look at older episodes and it was always there I just was blind to it.
He's just such a good guy, all around. What makes his comedy so special is, yeah, the quality of the joke, but also the fact that it's coming from a guy who really cares about the person who he's trying to make laugh
He's so good in his profession that i feel uncomfortable to call him a sidekick. He is more than a sidekick. Infact his humour and comic timing is even better than conan. He can read the tone of conversation so well & then he adds something or says something so unpredictable that cracks you up immediately. I remember once Conan said "Should i lower myself?" & Andy said "You lower yourself everyday". 😂
Andy Richter and Chris Elliot (Dave Letterman) have to be the two best side kicks ever. They should team up and do a show together. They would be hilarious together.
I don't know about you, but a job that afforded you the opportunity to throw a bucket of superballs out of a ninth floor window sounds like just about the sweetest gig anyone could ever hope for...
Michael Caine?! Why do people put simple actors on a pedestal? Movie acting is probably the simplest of all creative works. Everythings prepared for you in advance, you get endless do-overs, and then the editor/director cuts & pastes the best bits together.
Andy and Conan has got to be the best bromance in late night comedy.
The original Late Night with Conan O'Brien crew was fantastic with Conan, Andy, Max Weinberg, Joel Goddard, Amy Poehler(as Andy's sister).
You have likely never heard the story of Andy, Kitchner Leslie, and Kitchners old lady... Typical Swedish/German shenanigans, really.
The best time to watch Conan was during the 2000s, when Andy left to pursue a "movie career".
Andy Richter, the Swedish German. I met him once through a prospector in Atlanta, Georgia.

He honestly was the other half of the show, they both compliment each other PERFECTLY
Andy is the embodiment of a team-player.
He is not only willing to be the but of the joke, but he is a master at playing along and making some hilarious self deprecating jokes.

The thing Andy did was never try to take over or interfere, but the things away from the interviews was incredible

Whiney outside of work
One of the greatest Swedish-German's on TV.
😅 A nickel per BJ.
What a genuine, down to earth, funny and great story teller. Oh, and Andy is pretty good too.
Andy's like the glue that keeps it together... Great combo, him & Conan 💯
I will always remember the zinger that Andy gave to Chelsea Handler, such a quick, funny and talented guy!
andy is and has always been, the silent assassin - calls for no attention, but when the opportunity is there he just murders it every time lmao
Andy is star struck? That’s kind of adorable.
True scorpio, deeply loyal and watch out for the sting. Plus Conan's wife ist scorpio too, so he likes them.

Andy seems like such an unbelievably fun fella to hang out with.
Andy Richter Controls the Universe was underrated
What a great gig Andy fell into! Awesome 💕👍
Andy Richter should be the primary host of Jeopardy.
I loved Andy’s tv shows, the universe and the detective show.
I miss watching Andy and Conan every night.
Can't believe I've never heard this side of the story.. I love Andy and Conan's partnership.
I love Andy's voice. He was perfect with Conan.
ANDY RICHTER THE PEOPLE.

Ur so awesome Andy may everyone around you remind u
Not only is he very funny, he just comes across as a guy I’d love to hang out with. Good vibes

Andy did an incredible job!! Conan was lucky to have such a great comedy team player!!
The very funniest stuff on Conan is Andy's one-liners.
I personally love a good Andy Richter Swedish German joke
PREACH MY BROTHER!!!
Nice of Rich to make sure we had some Swedish-German representation on the show!
Andy Richter the Swedish-German.
Recurring homophobic joke that Andy has said he absolutely hates.

How insane would it be to see James Brown just sitting in a studio hallway watching the foot traffic

Yes. I needed this.

Everytime Andy crack a joke, Conan always burst into laughter..and you know that the joke is good.
never forget what a talent he is - totally could lead a show as a comedic actor (imho it was just a bit ahead of its times, the comedy series).
"Did the superballs bounce back up to the 9th floor" This guy really knows how basic physics and gravity works.
The Swedish German himself!!

@@polarwavehole4545 Have you seen him or John Stewart be funny since that show? They're no talent hacks.
Hopefully that hbo stuff works out for him and Conan.
Shelley Winters was a two-time Oscar winner. I'd consider that as being an A-lister.
at the time she did the show her career was not what it used to be.
SW was in her mid-70s when she first appeared on Conan, so she wasn't quite first choice for a leading part in a movie at the time, hence not A-list.
Well you'd be wrong.
The lighting in this set...
Soooo... did I miss the part where Andy talked about the secret to being a good sidekick?
What's the statute of limitations on hitting somebody with a superball from 9 stories up?

Bowie was so darn funny in a few Conan shows.
Before Eric Andre and Hannibal Burress, there was Conan O'brien and Andy Richter.
Not surprising that this Swedish-German fella didn't mention a certain old chunk of coal.

It seems like Andy Richter and Jim Gaffigan are brothers, separated at birth.
Andy should take over Match Game as host. Because I'm willing to bet Alec Baldwin won't be coming back.
It got cancelled but I'd love to see it come back with Andy
