I know this isn't about Nick, but I need to clarify a few things. Nick originally wanted to be a Navy SEAL when he was joining the military. He is severely colorblind and the Navy told him he could not go NSW as a result. The Army recruiter pulled him in after overhearing he was rejected from the Navy and Nick magically became "not colorblind" during the Army's eye screening and he was given a shot a going to RIP (not sure if he signed an Option-45 or not though). As a result of the Army's generosity in "helping" with this test result, Nick enlisted in the Army and was given a shot to attend RIP (now RASP). After successfully completing RIP, plus all other training programs required of him, Nick went on to become a highly decorated BIG name in the community. His story is truly amazing, and I have never heard him say anything about "Rangers are better" than anyone else. He's not that guy and never has been. Nick had a very bad experience with Devgru during one of his deployments where the Devgru guys treated the Rangers like baggage handlers. Lots of bad blood there. Which is why his answer came across like that.

It was easy for me to get jump school and sapper school because they needed people. I had some SF guys there and rangers that said physical it might not be as hard but it was one of the best schools they had been to.
Hey man, thanks for always being straight-forward and just laying out some straight facts and not just mudslinging, especially as the YT space is getting ever more filled with military channels and the same arguments. I love your channel and as a light on the right classic reservist 68w, all I can say is when I was at Ft. Lewis for ASI training (M6 before they reclassed most of the ASIs to their own MOS (M6 is now 68C)) our schoolhouse was just a few hundred feet down the block from the SF section of the post and seeing the SF support troopers "test-driving" 4-wheelers, dune buggies, and just seems like the coolest support job ever. But that said, we were warned b/c of the presence of SF and the Ranger Bat that was there. The safety brief was from a Lt Col: "If you see people in black pts (Jan 2013 before the change), get out of their way and cross the street. Do NOT get in their way, try to keep up, or join up with any of these people because they will run through you and then over you and there will be no pity for you from JAG. That said, being up one morning (we pt'd afternoons) and seeing these dudes doing insane pace and just thinking: I can't believe I'm wearing the same uniform. That said, any SF dude at the PX or bar was ALWAYS a gentleman, perfectly professional, and extremely kind. When you wore your beret around garrison, did you ever feel like people were looking at you? Not as in a bad way, more like just like seeing a unicorn or a general walking around the class 6.
How I think: Green Berets have huge fucking balls, they are operating and counting on people they trained (and you guys know how ANA were). They also sleep with fighters they don't know. Unlike Rangers and other units who are fighting along side people with the same amount of training, sleeping at their on base. Huge respect for Green Berets
@@Shiestyk1 That is not my point. Would you rather take to a firefight a Ranger or a ANA soldier that trained by Green Berets? Rangers fight and get shit done a long side Rangers, Green Berets get shit done along side indigenous who have nowhere the knowledge/funding, and who can never be 100% fully trusted. That is my point
@@GianWarGasmthis is true, but every single late war target rangers went out with the afghan commandos, as per policy dictated. So typically three Ranger Squads and one KKA element. Most casualties late war were also green on blue with KKA killing rangers, also look up maj. Brent Taylor. He was killed by an KKA commando ISIS turncoat, my fireteam is the one that helped them zero their weapons and train them up. That killing happened the week after they zeroed their weapons.

Another great video. Well done and I really enjoyed hearing your POV. It would have been great if you had a Batt Boy on with you to give the Rgr POV. I think youd be surprised, most Rangers would completely agree with your points and assessment and would probably even give SF more credit. RLTW
Well, the truth of the matter is that if you are joining the Army and have a desire to have a special operations career, you fight to get the Airborne Ranger contract right off the bat. Do your time as a young Ranger and then look to attend SFAS and transition to Army Special Forces. I’m a firm believer in serving in other Army units (preferably an airborne unit, but it doesn’t really matter) prior to going SF. Having a few years in the Army, no matter your MOS, is a good thing heading to SF. Bottom line, why choose between Rangers or SF when you can do both as a young recruit?
Asking whether green berets or rangers are better is like asking whether pepperoni pizza or chocolate cake is better. Each is better for its specific purpose. Neither is better overall. They are in different categories. With that said, John Lovell was a ranger, so rangers are better. 🙃
Good break down. SEAL Team selection is 6 mo. BUD/s, Jump School, Then 4 mo. SQT formerly STT then you get your Trident after your board. Guys going straight to SDV also have 6 mo. SDV school. So similar but a little less time then SF.
Silly to compare Rangers to SF. Traditionally they have different missions. Things have become muddled and confused due to GWOT. Both are great and complimentary to each other.
Will concede times have changed.....SF recovered from the damage of John Wayne.... but it wasn't until the mid eighties that they started to getting back on track after Vietnam and the 1970's. The world has changed and in a good way. Ranger Bat during late 70's and into 90's was just a pain in the ass. Guys would leave Bat to go to SF for a break...sometimes rotate back...most of time going "fuck that shit". More to this but is old history...so does not play in modern army...salute to the ones that make the cut and actually perform.....
SEAL “selection” is only the first half of phase one of BUDS. BUDS is broken into three phases with each phase being 2 months long, phase one is orientation and “Hell Week” takes place during the first month of BUDS. The pass rate for the rest of phase one and phase two and three is almost 90% (almost 70% of SEAL classes quit the first month - so their selection length and failure rate is about that same as SF). Additionally, BUDS is just the old-school underwater demolition program from the UDTs. TLDR; SEALs don’t have a 6 month selection. “Hell Week” takes place the first month and the rest of BUDS has about a 90% pass rate.
Pre buds and phase 1 ( physical training) is to get rid of the 235-280s in pft that went in on the seal challenge thinking they had a chance to pass. They are then stuck for the length of the contract in their rating..
Quite honestly id take any of our special ops guys from any branch. Who I do not want is these weirdo fruit cakes they have nowadays that specialize in TikTok dances and whatnot.
You keep bringing up this hypothetical "company of Rangers." Rangers haven't deployed as a company sized force since Haditha Dam in 2003. Since then, the largest Ranger presence in any one given AO under a single GFC has been two platoon task forces. This idea of massed Rangers acting as light infantry doing airborne mass exits durectly onto an airfield is an obsolete one.
well since i am from the UK, can say one thing? in 1982 i had the pleasure of going to fort Lewis for 2 months to train and go on exercise with the rangers i have never seen a unit like them they were the best i have seen if i were a "yank" thats the mob i would go for
For leading a counter-insurgency revolt in a foreign nation or disaster relief, Green Berets hands down. For taking airports or other high risk combat ops Rangers get the nod. Rangers also bring mountain skills GB lack. Delta is mostly Ranger for a reason. GB get more training but they were never thought of as being a large scale assault force. Just not what they do. In individual one on one combat, unarmed, Ranger all the way.
It’s sad that individuals can’t understand the difference between different units just by research. Butttttttt…. Great that these dudes can make money explaining little details to the rest of these people on things that are google worthy.
We need a vid on how gwot supposedly softened our military. I've been hearing over the past year or longer that both ukrainian and russian regular infantry have adopted to use much smaller units similar to sof teams to harass targets. And it obviously helps them move far easier and quicker and keeps casualties down. I heard maybe around a decade ago that the U.S. army infantry was adopting basically the same because of gwot. Can you get into the pros and cons on some vids about that? If it works, why not?
I get the part about everyone thinking we may never fight against a near peer adversary and our navy making dumb decisions, fighter jet budget headaches and missile and anti missile tech being a hassle, that's a whole other can of worms. I mostly mean regular infantry adaptation.
@@chaotikkjuisse6614 My guess is that if the US were involved in another near-peer war then they'd adapt accordingly. The military looks like it does now because of how it adapted to the gwot.
@@jimmyboy131 It's obviously very important to see why we keep hearing why gwot supposedly lead to this theory. I'm really doubting it since Ukraine adapted quickly and regained some of their land before the frontline sort of stablized and further adapted small drones and smaller troop units.

Most of the people who make it into the regiment did not go from RASP? Or the majority of people with option 40s don’t make it to RASP? Sorry I don’t understand your comment.
The 18X program wasn't available when I enlisted. I hear their are some who grumble about the 18X graduates. I had all but one of my first units team leaders go be Green Berets. I decided to get out instead of going to GB selection. My regret!
You can’t put the failure of indigenous troops squarely on SF there are societal and anthropological differences that make it far more difficult than just training troops that resulted in the Taliban taking over the country. If you look at the objective of the Afghan war in late 2001 SF along with other units cleared out all enemy combatants within a year and it was only after the mission drastically changed to nation building which is far more than just standing up a formidable fighting force.
@@azovandy14.88 I feel the men and women who are in these SF/intelligence positions, need to start calling out the military leaders and hold accountable or put them in the bring for the incompetence. They need to start relieving people of their commands. Bring back the time when all it took was 2-3 years to do a campaign. Even in the colonial days. I get there is the opportunity for money. But these are called out in social media but those tier one operators need to put their boots on people’s necks who made disastrous calls. Like disbanding the Ba’ath party the way they did in Iraq.

I had some SF guys there and rangers that said physical it might not be as hard but it was one of the best schools they had been to.
I agree mountain and dapper both badass. Any of the tabs are impressive
Never ONCE heard a GB throw shade on the Rangers. NO SURPRISE LOL.
Rangers did the heavy lifting during gwot that’s just facts
You forgot the most important question,
Who has the Best hair?
If I included that then I’d have to compliment SEALs bro.
@@B_Sandman not a secret weapon, more of a weird borderline homo Hangup about aesthetics, dudes gelling their hair prior to going on target was always very bizarre to me
Judging by you and John Lovell, I'd say Rangers haha.
@@ViktoriousDead The Spartans spent a lot of time on their hair before battle. But they were also super gay.

Every unit has its own roles and each unit is good at what purpose it serves!
Its not really whos better, its what do you want from them.
We like how despite your reservations with SEALs behaviors, you still recognize what is better or elite about them.. A sober and balanced perspective is great!
Love the channel man. Cat bit my hand and bout broke it, but soon as it’s healed gonna try your workouts 🇺🇸💪🏻 keep it up
The REAPER is a badass mf🤜🏻
The best special operations unit to join is the Munchkin army!
Operation Red Wings is another event that Rangers helped with regarding retrieving a SEAL unit.
So?
Pre buds and phase 1 ( physical training) is to get rid of the 235-280s in pft that went in on the seal challenge thinking they had a chance to pass. They are then stuck for the length of the contract in their rating..
I appreciate these comparisons and always look foward to them, Along with all of your content. Thank You Nate, Stay Hard. 🇺🇸🫡
Quite honestly id take any of our special ops guys from any branch. Who I do not want is these weirdo fruit cakes they have nowadays that specialize in TikTok dances and whatnot.
Depends on the job! Both have their uses!
Rangers no doubt! MY OPINION THO
Both are bad ass and I’m proud to have you guys protect our country. I’m just sorry the government always screws you over in the end.
Loved this video, thank you
Old 91 series grunt medic here. Enjoying your content, VFT.
Thanks brotha 🫡
You keep bringing up this hypothetical "company of Rangers." Rangers haven't deployed as a company sized force since Haditha Dam in 2003. Since then, the largest Ranger presence in any one given AO under a single GFC has been two platoon task forces. This idea of massed Rangers acting as light infantry doing airborne mass exits durectly onto an airfield is an obsolete one.
Sean Mcphee had an interesting take on SF vs. Rangers. Former Delta dude who served in both organizations.
John?...oh wait you just exposed his real name. Sheriff we got you
well since i am from the UK, can say one thing? in 1982 i had the pleasure of going to fort Lewis for 2 months to train and go on exercise with the rangers i have never seen a unit like them they were the best i have seen if i were a "yank" thats the mob i would go for
I’m going to choose Green beret on this one got to be around 1st group guys they where amazing dudes n was my inspo to join the community
Its the same meaningless question as what is the best gun. They are meant for different things!
Every gun is designed for the same purpose and that is inflicting traumatic injuries, so poor analogy unfortunately.
Can’t wait for you to be on the SRP, i know it’s gonna happen eventually haha great video Nate
Nate with another banger

Maybe it's a misinfo psyop this whole time to throw off russia and china😆🤷🏻♂️
You forgot about pre rasp and SURT. But you are still correct longer is harder some of the best rangers i knew were 18d and 18e drops. Don’t hurt me batt boys you know its true.
However as far as DA, fitness and marksmanship I’ve been more impressed with batt. You guys had some…. Plus sized model lookin boys and you know thats true.
Older dudes=more likely to be fatter. They're iron marshmallows though at least where it matters with rucking and the like.
How do you not have more subs, great video as usual!
RANGERS LEAD THE WAY.
I've been told that 8% of people who enlist with option 40 make it into the Regiment. Most of these are not from RASP, the vast majority never get to RASP. No idea what the in-service success rate is.
Most of the people who make it into the regiment did not go from RASP? Or the majority of people with option 40s don’t make it to RASP? Sorry I don’t understand your comment.
2/75th Rock Hard n Awesomeness. Best of ALL, respect for All...😁🙃
How often do Rangers and SF work together?
And do 2/75 guys and 1st Group SF brush shoulders seeing they are both stationed at JBLM?
They did when I was there. They actually have a good working relationship. Lot of 2nd Bat guys in 1st Group.
The 18X program wasn't available when I enlisted. I hear their are some who grumble about the 18X graduates. I had all but one of my first units team leaders go be Green Berets. I decided to get out instead of going to GB selection. My regret!
18X program in some form has been around since my dad went through in ‘69.
@ValhallaVFT if it was there in 1989, I didn't know about it. I kept getting told you have to be E-4 promotable to go to selection
Given the failures in Afghanistan, would you say that Green Berets haven’t done a good job with their “bread and butter”?
yep there main job is to train the locals- went well didn’t it?
You can’t put the failure of indigenous troops squarely on SF there are societal and anthropological differences that make it far more difficult than just training troops that resulted in the Taliban taking over the country. If you look at the objective of the Afghan war in late 2001 SF along with other units cleared out all enemy combatants within a year and it was only after the mission drastically changed to nation building which is far more than just standing up a formidable fighting force.
@@azovandy14.88 they trained the troops to soldier like western troops with air strikes etc so when they lost that they were finished
Shrek "the sheriff of Baghdad" said army sf was childs play compared to the 75th,wondering what your thoughts are on that.

Idk Comparing Green Berets to Rangers is like apples & oranges.
But unlike Army SF, Rangers got disbanded twice in its history. Near the end of WW2, the middle of the Korean War, and weren't brought back till near the end of the Vietnam War
As a former USAF pilot, I should do we F-16 drivers versus F-15 drivers. And there would be mud slinging! 😂.

That would be the F-15C vs F-16 right?
My favorite fighter is the F-15C 😅
I got to meet a few Rangers briefly in Timor. Never had the pleasure of meeting any Green Berets. Obviously a lot of the Americans we trained with (I am Aussie) had been to Ranger School and they were pretty cool🙂
I just love your videos! You make complete sense with everything and have good insight. And a great style in the approach. How would you rank all the units in terms of basic hand-to-hand combat? No weapons! How would you rank them all in basic skills?
Honestly none of us have any priority on training hand to hand combat. SF does have a ton of dudes who actively train MMA though.
This was a good one shocked you have some props to Frogs lol jk. I’d be interested in your opinion on the best overall non SOF direct support unit you have worked with from all branches. I’m basis as I’m a SeaBee and have worked with many units through out SOCOM. Just wondering your thoughts on best “Stepping stone” unit or a full career there.
All I can say is Rambo’s outside of FT Benning in 87. Seals, Rangers, Marines, GB’s, and like two other “special teams”.
I know who got escorted out with those shiny bracelets and those that got carried out on stretchers.

4-8 years in Regiment then retire out in SF would be a perfect career.
Hell no. I tried to drop a packet 3 times denied due to deloyment. I rather go SF right away. Rangers are expected to act like a discipline line unit while SF is more relaxed
@@FMD023 8 years for the combat experience, retirement for the relaxed
@@nblohm8492 hey 2 years of back to back rotation to Iraq from 2005 to 2009. Got stop loss my first six months in country. I had to get out. I would have ended up doing 3 deployments in a 4 year span. They got 85% of my unit to reenlist. I gave them a hard no. Only one that was offered a 20k lump sum bonus and said no way. They got almost 90% of my unit because we’re From hood transferring to Carson. They promised three years stabilization at least. The year that I got out, my old soldiers told me that they’re prepping to go to Afghanistan following year. That’s the thing about the army. Can’t even trust them when you sign the papers.

In my opinion the comparison is the SF is creating a big dilemma to the enemy. And the rangers are one thing, fk every thing in one or two square blocks around 😅😂😊
It doesn’t matter who we are talking about and who is better than who, WHEN we fight a near peer threat all of us are gonna be fucked. The GWOT will be child’s play compared to what is to come.
TBH I find it questionable that the Green Berets don't do rescue missions because most sources I've read say that they do
Rangers first for the young guys then go SF as an older more experienced guy for those more sophisticated nuanced missions.
Different Mission Set. Both Are 🔥🔥🔥
Can you do a video of comparing MARSOC and Green Berets
They are the same thing ones Army and one is Marines
"we have Green Berets at home"
Forget about seals or rangers I want green berets vs CCTs
CCT aren't a unit per se I think; they support SOF units like green berets
How is this comparison even a thing? Are these special forces designed to do different things? Yes. We all know Nick is very vocal about his wartime experience. Most importantly, he's vocal about his mental health afterwards. I watched this video because I seen "VS". I'm sure all special forces are good at what they do. I just don't see how you can compare them when they all specialize in different things and serve different purposes
If you got the youth...go Ranger Bt then either SF or delta...
