I recently read through the manga on down time at work and, yeah, I'm not as hot on Demon Slayer as everyone else is, but that is one thing that I really liked about it. Tanjiro remembers that all of the demons he kills were at one point human. They weren't born as murderous demons, they became demons. And while not all of them had tragic pasts, they were all complex people. Well, except Muzan. Muzan kinda sucks (and that's all I'll say about him in the interest of spoilers).

Interesting idea, like I would agree with you in the sense that I watched all of demon slayer in two days and it took me a month to finish 11 slow, dense episodes of ping pong the animation, and while I technically probably enjoyed the viewing experience of demon slayer more, for me part of the fun about anime is thinking about it afterwards and I can easily say I think about the characters and story of ping pong waaaay more than I do about demon slayer making me want to rate ping pong higher. And not to gaslight you but what I feel what you are trying to convey with the quality=enjoyment argument is people wanting to flex how "intellecshually thuperior" they feel when liking low-key anime when I think the reality could also just be this is why people gets enjoyment out of quality shows, and best could also be their favorite for the same reasons.
Or I'm just coping with the fact that I really enjoy ping pong and I'm constantly just thrown in the former group by default by most people who haven't seen it and looked at 1 screenshot of literally any frame... sorry for the rant.

@@ryanrobinson4287don't get it twisted, try telling me with a straight face that Manos or the Room is a good movie I will laugh at you. I watch MST3K where the whole point is you're watching awful movies and laughing at them. I do that with anime as well but definitely, some shows are “good” for different reasons. But try to tell me that Darling the Franxx is a masterpiece I'm pretty apt to tell you that's easy to evidence that it's not (the writers couldn't keep their themes and internal show politics consistent and would introduce ideas and drop them at the hat. I still mock my friends who had told me I was wrong about the red flags I saw in the first episodes of the show. All it took was a giant spaceship woman and an army that could've destroyed the protagonists, ages ago suddenly showing up now that they're on the same side)

@@ladygrey4113 I think the disconnect here is you are talking specifically about guilty pleasures or the difference between best and favorite and I'm specifically talking about the quality=enjoyment part. My argument is it's fine having undisputed masterpieces as your favorites even if you didn't necessarily enjoy the viewing experience as long as you have a good reason. maybe a better example would be old films like Rashomon, 8 1/2, or Blow-Up. Idk what to say about the darling in the franxx rant. it seemed a little derivative imo. all I got from it was it sounds like we have similar friends lol

I agree with her on that, that's one of the reasons why I thought Love, Death & Robots season 2 wasn't as solid as the first one, realistic cgi was the majoroty of the shorts in there.
That being said, there is some recent use of 3D like Klaws, Into the Spiderverse and even Mitchels and the machines (plus some recent fighting games in consoles) that are something that gives me hopes for the future.

So I know I've said this a lot, but I really hate the public perception of ONE's artwork. To say his work is "good writing bad art" feels like a complete disrespect to the sheer talent he shows off throughout MP100. His artwork is off-kilter, sure, but even in the early chapters ONE showed an impeccable sense of spread, composition, and atmosphere.
Like that one panel during the fight with Dimple's cult, where Mob says very threateningly "I didn't laugh", *holy hell* the angle, the expression, the pose, the use of dramatic shading it's so damn evocative in a way that not even the anime could capture. Hell, as much of a visual treat as the Mogami arc was in the anime I *still* prefer how well ONE was able to depict Mob's mental prison. It made me feel deeply disturbed in ways the anime couldn't pull off even at its fullest potential.
And not only that, but you can even see his artwork improving with each chapter, right up to the very end.
I don't wanna spoil the final chapter too much, but I will say this. It is the most visually stunning thing I've seen from a manga in ages. I strongly believe that, if Studio BONES makes a Season 3, it will go down as one of the best finales in modern anime history, if they can come even close to matching that chapter's visual spectacle.

I love it as a concept, world building is wonderful, but I do thing the Netflix show takes a long time to decide on its pacing and scope. Its understandable given that i doubt think its been adapted nearly as much from the manga but rather the movies. I think they needed the feeling of a Volume or an Arch like the movies scope covers. Something to give a sense of relief like they said about with demon slayer. That said, it deals with some heavy themes, and I’d suggest that anyone interested look up TW’s before getting invested

I wouldn't put Castlevania that high though, there are some things in the writing, pacing and dialogues that doesn't always work to me, despite the fact I love Isaac, Alucard and Dracula and the animation has some really incredible Sakuga moments, all things considered.

    • @ssmmeeaarrggllee
      @ssmmeeaarrggllee 3 года назад +2

agreed with both, loved first two Castlevania seasons, third was good and fourth wasn't awful, but what really makes me think of it as a B tier anime more or less is the animation. Netflix was just cheap on the budget and it shows, the whole show has amazing animation only in the last episodes of each season, average on most of them and for season 4 the animation was just mediocre most of the time, it was just sad. I still enjoyed it quite a bit overall, but that did hurt the anime a lot.
      As for Madoka, Goddess tier.

My personal favourite is Zombieland Saga, anyone who comes into contact with me knows this. The show is so off the walls bonkers the first episode makes you question what the heck you’re even watching, but as you keep watching what may at first appear to be a trainwreck you find yourself getting invested. As many have said, it starts of as a parody of idol anime then just becomes an idol anime. I beg of anyone who comes across this comment to watch the show it’s so good i can’t be the only one who adores it XD

Nozaki to me has a rather unique design that makes it remain fresh amongst basically any other rom-com, to say nothing of a slice of life. Introduce two characters, and they both have a misunderstanding about the other. Introduce a third, more misunderstandings between them and the other two. Introduce a forth, fifth, sixth. So long as the characters are unique enough, with only say 15 characters there’s 120 different interactions between them. Nozaki handles this complex interplay between what’s now like 2 dozen characters in what feels like a very organic way. Sometimes you introduce misunderstandings, other times you resolve another one, there’s always a clash between two people’s perception of a third. The manga has been going on for over 10 years, and it’s still going strong.

To be fair, for him to not be given a redeeming quality with his supposed family (which he's most likely using as a cover) really pushes the fact that the audience has to see his more monstrous qualities, unlike the other demons where we see their remorse, aspirations, and what actually made them once human, we see his cowardice and manipulation tactics and how he's willing to use others and let them die without even feeling a bit of sympathy for them.
It also takes the guilt away from the ever so calm and empathetic Tanjiro and I'm actually fairly okay with that.

Was glad to see PMMM mentioned in some way, since it's my favorite anime. I will restrain myself from writing an essay about it in the RUclips comments section, but man I want to

The gemstone and lunar alien anime sounds utterly terrifying. I love it.

I loved the first arc of Beastars, and I find the artstyle of the manga to be clearly superior. But after a the few first arcs it goes off the rails so hard. I was surprised when you said it had wrapped, and it turns out I dropped the manga like 3 chapters before it ended lmao
I feel it's one of those manga that clearly suffered due to the release schedule.

As a huge nerd working in a field that pretty much demands strait-laced and vanilla behavior that leads to me sometimes feeling like I'm living a double life between the passionless mask I wear for the workday and the real person I only feel comfortable showing to a small handful of people, I really must say....

I am genuinely surprised with how many of the shows on this list are shows I LOVE. Nozaki kun is probably my all time favorite. I don’t watch too many animes. Shirokuma cafe being on here is also awesome and surprising because I barely see it anywhere. I’m not too in depth with the anime scene but I might slowly be coming back. Also bee and puppy cat. Good choice 🙂. I’ll have to check them out when I have free time

I don't need to have Mob Psycho recommended. It's my favorite anime. But did I still watch your entire section on it and get a rush of serotonin? Yes. Yes I did.
Anyway I'm excited to try out Bee and Puppycat and Princess Jellyfish! They seem right up my ol' alley.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I'm glad you focused on the things you adore while still leaving a bit of critique in.
Also, your new avatar design is stellar.
