Less than Zero score (1987) by Thomas Newman
Brokeback Mountain: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album by Gustavo Santaolalla.
Also: Wristcutters
Flanders and Swan.... check em out.
AC/DC and Motorhead.
Bridget Jones's Diary
Pump Up The Volume
The Blues Brothers soundtrack changed my life and the way I play guitar & bass.
Fairly certain my brother is a musician because of that film.
would you say you're on a mission......from god? lolz
gods that movie was so funny!
"That ain't no Hank Williams song!"
Taught me a thing or two about gigging as well LMAO
Another great soundtrack!
"Oh, we got both kinds. We got country AND western!" ;-)
The Crow.
Stone Temple Pilots, Pantera, Rage Against the Machine, The Cure, Helmet, on and on and on. And, a lot of the songs were specifically written for the movie.
Grunge, the movie.
Which helmet song is on the crow?
@@jtgullickson6117song is called milktoast, good tune. Great album. Love every song. Even more than the film. And i love the movie
Two great Alice in Chains tracks on Last Action Hero and the other tracks are OK too. Obviously, "Would?" is also from a soundtrack.
The rock soundtrack from The Crow is good. But not nearly as good as Graeme Ravell's score, available as a separate album. _That_ music evokes all the deep melancholy from the film, what was intended in the production as well as the sadness related to the tragic death of Brandon Lee.
Maybe not the best upbeat music for working in the shop, but still an amazing soundtrack.
The most revelatory soundtrack I’ve experienced was from “Oh Brother, where art thou”. The reason being, I always found Bluegrass really creepy until seeing this film and hearing its music. I immediately bought the soundtrack CD and have had a new fondness and appreciation for BG music ever since! 😊❤
Have you heard the cover Man of constant sorrow by Home Free?
I don’t know if it was like this in other parts of the country but I live in eastern NC and the response to that soundtrack in the area where I grew up could almost be described as rabid.
@@nilsmcmountain2377 was about to comment that. That cover is a MASTERPIECE Adam's mouthrmonica and Tim's bass are awesome
@@nilsmcmountain2377 nope, but I'm gonna go look it up now!
@@marpheus1 Two of their members doing vocal imitations of the jaw harp and harmonica are ridiculous.
Tron: Legacy is one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to while working. Side note it’s sad how many of us have scars from school like not talking about what we actual Iike.
That Lost Boys song was definitely one that stayed with me. I mainly remember the kids singing the "though shall not..." parts. It was kinda haunting.
"Music lives with us. Always there to remind us of the people, places and events of our times. An essence of what we once were and what we'll always be." This phrase was on a mural in one of my high school stairways. Its simple phrase that has a deep meaning.
The end credits song that has hit me the strongest is definitely Moby's Extreme Ways in the original Bourne. For some reason it just felt so right and created precisely the right atmosphere in my opinion.
Totally agree, this was the first thing I thought of watching this video.
Grosse Pointe Blank. The first CD I ever bought, before I owned a CD player! Still love it.
My thought too, and High Fidelity, both good John Cusack films.
Yes! GPB soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece!
Seriously underrated movie.
Wasn't Joe Strummer the musical director of that film?
@@drmodestoesq yes sir he was! That man died way too young.
John Carpenter's 1982 "The Thing". Haunting score.
Came to write the same
They specifically said soundtrack, not score.
I agree
@@c1ph3rpunk what's the difference?
I like John Carpenter's music from Big Trouble in Little China. It does a fantastic job of setting the mood in that fun, cheeze fest of a movie.
Never feel embarrassed for liking the things that bring you joy! I learned that from Adam!
Sorcerer 1977 with soundtrack by Tangerine Dream, absolutely entrancing
Yes 100% that is like being on another planet
Recently watched “Baby Driver” and was very impressed with the great songs and how they intertwined with the story.
Six underground was good too.
Edgar Wright wrote many scenes to take place according to the music pace.
I agree with you on The Lost Boys. Not just the credit music, but the whole soundtrack. A few others are: The Big Chill, Sliver, Wild Orchid, Pump Up The Volume, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
"How do you like your maggots Michael?"
Lost boys, pump up the volume, the crow, gone in 60 seconds and demon knight are probably my all time favorites
Pump up the volume, not the released soundtrack, but the songs in the actual movie, with Leonard Cohen, Henry Rollins and Bad Brains, The Descendants, Beastie Boys, Above The Law, Pixies, Ice-T, Soundgarden, Peter Murphy. It just goes on and on.
@@danshepard5083 God. Now I want to go dig out the cassette, I could swear some of those were on it....but I've also been listening to them all so long I won't swear they haven't mentally bled together.
Gotta ask, preference on everybody knows?
@@blackc1479 I'm a Cohen guy all the way. I loved watching Gary Beacom skating to I'm Your Man. I like his original version of Hallelujah the l best. Even have a few of his books of poetry.
A lot of those songs are on the official soundtrack, but a lot aren't. It was one of those soundtracks where I bought it and ended up disappointed at all the missing songs.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is one my favorite, which never was released due to a dispute between composer and film company.
And the best track is the banger they put over the end credits. I think of that one before the "official" theme.
YAS!
Yep! Believe it or not I've had the theme stuck in my head for a couple of days now. And it's a great piece of music to get stuck in your head.
I always come back to Tool. The lyrics have touched every stage of my life and they have pushed the limits of what can be done with three musicians and a singer. Plus one of the greatest living drummers in the world right now.
You need to see Rick Beato’s interview with Danny Carey if you haven’t already 😁
_Sweat_ on _Escape From L.A._ As far as I know the only soundtrack they've ever been on.
I spent a ton of my childhood playing with lego listening to Casey Kasem in the 90s. It's so absurd how birds-of-a-feather I feel with Adam. Simpatico.
I also love girlie pop :D
'Good Morning Vietnam' - got me through many an all-nighter at university...every track a winner
The discomfort with sharing musical taste is so relatable. In middle school, I had a cousin I really liked that basically dismissed my whole musical taste. I liked to listen to dance-pop type stuff like cascada and he came across my iPod and looked through it without knowing who’s it was and was like, “man, this music is weird” That felt real bad and I immediately started to hide what I listen to. 20 years later and I still will tend to omit mentioning I like to listen to that stuff.
Everytime We Touch and Evacuate The Dancefloor are timeless bangers in my opinion. I'm sorry your cousin made you feel bad about your taste in music but I hope you don't let that prevent you from enjoying it anyway.
Don't forget Conan 1982, Excalibur 1981, Dune 1984. Excellent soundtracks.
Conan soundtrack. Hell yeah
Excalibur! A great movie nobody seems to remember!
Those are scores not soundtracks
@@daneoman1000 I'll get you a cookie as soon as they're out of the oven.
@@b.chuchlucious5471 I want a chocolate chip one
The crow...is a great sound track.
Truth! I listened to that so much when I was a kid!
Yes!
Proof that The Cure could do MUCH better than Friday I’m In Love.
The only soundtrack still in my collection.
Basically all the best songs of that period of the 90’s.
Powder Finger!...haven't heard that name in YEARS! Now I have to go back and listen for the day
As an Aussie, I am delighted to hear of your love for Powderfinger, Adam! A legendary Australian band! 😃
was gonna say the same thing!
As a Danish person who doesn't have the patriotic pride for Powderfinger, I was also delighted to hear them on his list. My Kind of Scene in particular is one of those rare _perfect_ songs.
Fell in love with Philip Glass after watching Koyaanisqatsi.
When I saw the title of this video. The first thought I immediately had was Until The End of the World. And to my delight… thanks Adam.
"The Transformers: The Movie" from 1986 has one of the best soundtracks in cinema history. 🎵 You got the Touch! 🎵
38 years later, and I still get weepy every time I hear "Death of Optimus Prime".
Also one of the few soundtracks where you get a Weird Al Yancovic song (Dare to be Stupid)
That really had a great soundtrack, so many classic rock and metal songs.
Had to look to see if anyone mentioned this. Vince Dicola, ['Escape' is amazing] NRG, Stan Bush, Weird Al, "Spectre General". Simply wall to wall bangers this one.
I was hoping I wasn't the only one, lol.
As someone with taste in music that is a bit out of the ordinary, I feel like music can be so much a personal thing in the modern day, especially since there is nothing to unify or define taste for large groups of people
My taste in music isn't exactly totally obscure (I like Scandinavian power metal and video game stuff from Overclocked Remix), but it's obscure _enough_ that I can't relate to anyone here at the office with it. Asking me what I'm into in my off hours is a bit like asking someone from a foreign non-Western country what it's like "back home" in terms of culture shock.
@@SimuLordI listen to Ambient Noise and other versions of noise, as well as a ton of goth and industrial variants. The only bands I listen to that the world seems to know are Nine Inch Nails and Taylor Swift (yes I do love Taylor’s work) - I tend to avoid musical conversations in general these days unless I’m at a club truth be told.
I remember being confused as to why no one loved Queen's music like I did. At least not in my school. So I learned to be quiet about it. I still to this day am surprised when someone likes the same music I do.
Gotta love Queen ❤❤
And appropriately enough they also have some of the best soundtrack offerings too.
Highlander being my favorite, iron eagle, flash Gordon.
I think they also might have been used in some little movie by this Canadian dude in the 90s too....
Later work by Mark Hollis from Talk Talk is some of the best music to make art to. "Spirit of Eden", "Laughing Stock", and a self-titled album, "Mark Hollis". Also want to throw in the soundtrack mix, "Rabbit Proof Fence", and "The Last Temptation of Christ" by Peter Gabriel. "Cat People" is a very good 80's throwback to synthesizers. Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing such a personal topic and you shouldn't ever feel ashamed of the music you like because the variety of the music you like or love is what makes us the amazing people we are. Everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE 😊God Bless 🙏
Thank you for the recommendation of "Until The End Of The World". Somehow that passed under my radar and it contains all my favorite artists! The soundtrack from the latest Tron Legacy movie by Daft Punk is absolutely stunning.
It is an absolute travesty and damn near criminal that Tron Legacy’s soundtrack and costume design didn’t win, let alone get nominated, for Oscars.
For Legend, "Is Your Love Strong Enough" IS great....but there will always be a pedestal in my heart for "Loved by the Sun."
Yes! This!
Yes, thank you! I've been meaning to rewatch Legend, and I couldn't remember the name of that song!
It wasn't until I was in my late 20's that I stopped being embarrassed about liking pop music! But in all honesty I have come to realize I like ALL music....
Dear Adam, I spent 15+ years as a bartender, ended up with a ton of CD's. I compiled my favorite songs onto my HD (took a year) and now its all on Spotify as playlist. It has been great to share the list with friends when these kinds of discussions come up. I recommend you do the same, it is hard to discover new music, but sharing these playlist (Mix Tapes!) it allows all of us to discover new music. Great Video!
As big a movie fan as I’ve always been, I never conjured the term “credit music,” but amazingly as you talked about them, they started to pop into my head, one after another. Brothers in the Night - Ray Kennedy, Uncommon Valor. Burning Bridges - The Mike Curb Congregation, Kelly’s Heroes. Don’t You Forget About Me - Simple Minds, Breakfast Club. The list goes on and on…😃 Wow, it’s a thing!
One of my favorites is the soundtrack/score to Wes Anderson's Rushmore. Just amazing fron start to finish.
Another great score is from The Princess Bride. Love that one.
And Jamie... Never apologize for finding joy from things. From adults building Legos or playing video games to enjoying the music one likes, if it brings you joy, rock on!
YES! Rushmore's sound track is amazing. It shaped my taste in music for a bit there when I was in middle school.
Fun fact, The Princess Bride was scored by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, known for such bangers as Sultans of Swing and Money For Nothing. What a virtuoso guitarist.
Thanks for the Until the End of the World shout out! I still have my original copy! So many Nick Cave soundtracks.
Dude, I hear your music sharing embarrassment and your not alone!
(Morricone's The Mission)
Colin Hay. Undervalued.
Men at work were sort stuck in their 80s format.
I used to have a similar bit of shame in talking about favored music... Went away when I was in marching band. Something about performing and playing songs that I had no control over (I sure wasn't pickin' 'em) opened me up so that I'll easily admit I love a lot of 80's rock and metal. All the happy pop and even J-pop and more. Be you, be happy and thanks for opening up.
Hell yeah, respect for the Powderfinger shout out, those lads rocked!
I'm happy you like Tangerine Dream and Legend, that you know them is so cool. I have literally everything they made, most concert bootlegs, nearly all soundtracks, member`s solos, spinoffs, Loom, some limited collector's editions, for the last 30 something years. What started it was the Risky Business ST, ohh, LOART, felt so good.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I had never heard "Blue" before and it touched me very deeply. I hope many people will be touched by Joni Mitchell's incredible poetry and emotional honesty.
Thanks for adding timestamps for the questions
Soundtrack: High Fidelity, Almost Famous and Guardians of The Galaxy. Score: Jaws will always be my #1. Pivotal time in my childhood, so it has stuck with me in a certain way no other has.
Almost Famous ....... Heck Ya !!!!!!
"Ah, the enemy!"
Love hearing about all this last-century music you never really hear about anymore!
Ouch. That hurts lol
Oh gods, I had forgotten about the Raising Arizona soundtrack or maybe it's the score I'm thinking about. In the last (I think) scene when High imagine his and Ed's future, 8n the music that's played there is an overwhelming sense of whistfulness, and longing, and it's been with me for decades now. I just realised how much I'm still looking for that feeling in music.
Omg of course you’re a Wim Wenders fan. Until the End of the World is among my all time favorite films and also listened FOR YEARS to the sound track. & ❤ the rest of your selects!
OMG ... yeah the lost boys soundtrack is stunning .. might have to re-watch the film just for it
A song at the end of Napoleon Dynamite. I grew up listening to but I fell in love with it again... When in Rome Promise
Best score recently is Greyhound. Keep you feeling the anxiety the entire time! Brilliantly done
The song that I fell in love with instantly when watching the credits was "Look Up To The Sky" by The Indians at the end of Kalifornia. The album it came from is one of those lost gems of music from a band that only had that one album.
I was always a huge Phil Collins fan. As much as I liked the 90's alternative rock my peers did and still do very much, I always knew they thought Phil was dorky soccer mom pop music in a way, even the Genesis stuff. But then in college in the late nineties-early 2000's I had co-workers my age at my job tell me that Phil Collins was great and he shouldn't be a guilty pleasure at all. Also when American Idol became a thing, some of the kids would sing PC songs and the judges would hype him up as a legendary artist. Throwing It All Away by Genesis is still my jam!
If I never hear In the Air Tonight ever again it'll be a day too soon.
Lol I forget where I heard it, but someone described the 80s-90s as the decades that any radio left on for more than 15 mins would play at least 2 Collins songs.
True story, but I still dig a lot of his music.
@@blackc1479 I never liked him. But the over saturation certainly didn't help. F gated drums!
@@blackc1479 He does have a LOT of hit songs. Solo and with Genesis. So so so many.. haha.
Soundtrack: High Fidelity, Guardians of the Galaxy
Scores: Last of the Mohicans, Gladiator, Master and Commander
Gladiator came out when I was in high school, and I listened to the soundtrack over and over. Still love it.
Exactly. One of my favorite movies. The pygmee children singing. Just perfect.
Wim Wenders always has great soundtracks. The music cameos of wings of desire is top notch.
I feel you about your shyness around your music tastes. I grew up listening to ONLY country and classic rock, parents were born in the 50's, I was born in the 90's. Then we moved to Florida when I was 8 and I was bullied out of my love for country, moved onto rock. Rock love evolved through tons of sub-genres. Soft, hard, metal, heavy metal, hair metal, classic metal, death metal, black metal. But I also grew to like a couple rappers. And a few years ago, I started to listen to country again, almost entirely the 90's stuff I grew up on, though. I'm still shy about admitting I like it, especially to my family cause I know how they'll react hearing I like it again. So, I feel you, man.
Great video Adam .
Great timing! I’m going through a bit of a Wim Wenders kick, and I’ve never seen that film!
I’m really sorry to hear that you were bullied for your taste in music, Adam. I find it really inspiring however, that you’ve learned to overcome that, since I myself have been on the receiving end of utterances whose sum total of value is a fart in the wind. Cheers to you for being yourself! And happy making!
Then end credits music to Blade Runner is awesome - as soon as those doors close and that music starts, amazing.
Oh God, as an Australian when you mentioned Powderfinger I had to do a double take!
Happy to see that Australian gem getting mentioned in the states.
Not only does Adam like our Music, he also likes Bundaberg ginger beer.
I absolutely love to listen to scores while I work in my shop. Especially, Blade Runner 2049, Mr Robot, and Aliens.
GREAT choices!!
I know the feeling in regards to taste of music. While I luckily never got harassed (for a change) by my peers, I was and still am pretty alone in my love for Jazz, Swing, the American Songbook and TV+movie Soundtracks. Even my evening/nighttime 80ties and 9ties nostalgia playlists find no love with my wife. Or my son.
That is one of the few things my father successfully installed/ inherited to me - Jazz, Swing, partly helped through a sunday afternoon during which I watched "The Glenn Miller" story with James Steward.
I'm now 60. When I was in primary school, I discovered Burt Bacharach. Every Christmas, I'd get the latest ABBA album, which I darn near wore out, but my Dad had a DIY tape off a friend of Burt Bacharach. That tape, I wore out.
Beach Boys is another one. I still have my first CD I ever bought. The box set of The Capitol Years.
You're not alone.
Credits music / character introductory music. Adam, you've said that when you put on a really good prop, it helps you feel like you're a part of that world. That's how character introduction music makes me feel.
I don't have a lot of self confidence, so listening to music that feels like its defining me, helps put me in a good mood about myself to make it through the day
Oh my gosh so with you on your movie score taste there. I would add to that Ennio Morricone, Ludovico Enaudi. Can’t go past a bit of Hans Zimmer too. A couple of my favourite scores of all time - Nick Cave & Warren Ellis for both Assasination of Jesse James and The Proposition. Stellar, sublime work.
I bought it as soon as it came out. After all these years, it's still my favorite. I can see every scene in my mind.
Original soundtrack for the original STAR WARS.
Oh my bananas, I can't believe you answered that! It's on my shelf and my collection is a small peculiar spattering in some regards.
"I am the Bear, I search over here, I search over there.." 😄
George Harrison's "Dream Away" is great credit ending music from Time Bandits. Also "Going Home" by Mark Knopfler in Local Hero.
You talking about your affinity for movie soundtracks reminds me so much of my relationship with game soundtracks. Now I just want to see a collaboration with MarcoMeatball...
Colin hay great recommendation
as someone who LOVES music & cinema, i have to give props to anything involving Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross as composers. the work they did for David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is impeccable. their remix of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" with Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' that plays during the opening Title sequence (which itself is a visual masterpiece) is amazing. And, since You mentioned "Is Your Love Strong Enough" by Bryan Ferry which was part of the 'Legend' OST, Trent & Atticus have/d a side project with Trent's wife on vocals called How to Destroy Angels. They covered "Is Your Love Strong Enough" which plays over the credits of 'Dragon Tattoo' is bone chillingly amazing. i mean that entire film is great, but the OST/Score alone is worth watching for!
obviously the score of "Sicario" by the late Johann Johannsson is superb in capturing the ominous vibe that movie has.
"Moon" by Duncan Jones, 2009 (staring Sam Rockwell) has a great film score, composed by Clint Mansell.
another piece of music i would recommend is "We Three Kings" by Maria Lopez-Gallego. is plays over the credits to Apollo 18, a movie which almost nobody, including myself liked. it was pretty unmemorable in many ways. but that piece of super depressing, yet beautiful piano music over the credits is amazing.
as far as straight soundtracks, where to begin! The Crow obviously! Judgment Night (1993) was great.
one of my favorites is Dead Presidents (1995). amazing collection of songs!
I love working or drawing to The Social Network's soundtrack
You are right about Legend.
the collaboration between director Luc Besson and composer Eric Serra for Leon: The Professional and The Fifth Element have created unique soundtracks!
Train spotting & Pulp Fiction superb soundtracks.
For the last question, check out Angelo Baldamenti and the rest of the soundtrack for Twin Peaks and other David Lynch!
Haven't heard of Powder Finger before, but I love Men At Work, and there's another good Aussie pop group called Icehouse, particularly the album "Man of Colours".
Adam, please check out Abel Korzeniowski's score to Penny Dreadful. I love all of his work, but that one swoops in and grabs me!
Singles. I grew up in Boston, and my high school years coincided with Seattle's peak on the national cultural stage. Grunge, Cameron Crowe movies, the Gary Payton/Shawn Kemp Sonics. I wanted to move there and even looked at trying to get into U-Dub coming out of high school.
Ended up getting here in 2013 and still live here 11 years later, and every once in awhile the soundtrack to that movie works its way into my head. Just bangers all the way down.
Powderfinger is amazing! So glad to hear of others who like them. Was so sad when they broke up.
The music you like is good to YOU and that's all that will ever matter!
I LOVE the entire Children Of Men soundscape.
Also, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou has a banger of a sound track curated by Mark off of Devo.
Love them both to bits.
Best way a show has ever used music, The Wire.
It was pointed out that all the music in the scenes have a source within the scene that makes it fell real life.
You reference the characters Stringer Bell & Omar and real people because of this.
The music is always a character in the scene from a source so you feel those tense moments in scene are quite...like they should be in real life.
Best sound design in a show ever
3:13 Haha Lost Boys!! Love that soundtrack, I have the cassette and I listen to it often
I had two 300 CD player carousels hooked together with fiber optic cable to an amp. It could fade in between songs & play favorites & playlists. I had it for years till mp3 players finally came out & did the same job but better. &, yes, it was huge & took up so much shelf space. Almost as much as my widescreen CRT.
I LOVE that you are a Lana Del Rey fan, Adam..... as a 50 year old music fanatic I feel like she is one of the greatest artists of our time, she has the power to move people like no other.... loved this video... and NEVER be ashamed of the music you love
Thank you for the song recomendations. Speaking of end credits music, No Heaven (DJ. Champion) from the end credits of the first Borderlands game is really fun.
If you've never seen the early 80s movie, THE KEEP, you really should watch it. It's a PHENOMENAL movie and the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream is amazing.
This is an early Michael Mann film. It's so sad he refuses to release the Directors cut of this movie, which is supposedly 4hrs long.
Keep soundtrack is awesome.
Was going to say something, and realized I was thinking of the gate.
The keep was the Germans in the castle right?
@@blackc1479 The KEEP is about Germans, but not a castle. They come into this very small religious town and take it over. Inside the Keep, a massive space inside a mountain, they unleash a monster called Molasar. It's really a wild movie. Check it out.
Soundtrack: American Werewolf in London and The Matrix (close tie).
Score(track): Aliens, Waterworld, Jurassic Park, and Inception (no particular favorite amongst them - but probably my four favorite of all time).
She’s gotta have it and Clockwork Orange soundtracks
Another set of my fav soundtracks are from the movies "The Big Chill" and "Stand by Me" ❤
I love that you mentioned Blade Runner 2049, love me some Hans Zimmer
Yes! Credits music! I agree, a lot of your list is awesome. And you list the Decemberists... Great stuff. How about "I'm Deranged" by Bowie on The Lost Highway soundtrack?
cry little sister and the rest of the soundtrack to lost boys is so so good! You've got great taste in general adam! Absolutely going to check out your recommendation of the until the end of the world OST, thanks!
Every time someone asks my mind is screaming "LORDE!!" but my mouth says "hmm.... there's so many... it's hard to pick..."
John Murphy's tracks of 28 days later and Sunshine.
Adagio in D minor hits so hard in the jump scene and now it's tossed into every other movie trailer
Sunshine is amazing
@@dignusferox2570 he also did Kickass and sorta recycled the sunshine score a bit for it, its worth checking out. There is a different version of Adagio in D.
Opening scene with godspeed
Ugh. Perfection.
The Lost Boys Soundtrack was one of the first CDs I bought with my own money. Still love it.
Great video sir
Ok Adam I love this question as it fits with me extremely well. I build allot of WWII U.S. Navy ship, and plane model's. and when I am working on them I play the Midway soundtrack by John Williams. it just puts me in the mood to work on the model's. I also when working on a Star Trek, or a Star Wars kit I listen to their movie soundtracks as well. and my family and friends have told me I am weird for doing it. would be interested in everyone else's opinion on that.
