Brilliant Green for the win. Wish they were more readily available in stores. I've only ever seen six...and they can give with me. Black Neons are a close second. I just got my first dozen Cherry Barbs. So nice in their own tank! Can't believe I waited so many years to buy these beauties. Pandas are always on the list!
Always love the bristlenoses in any tank they can cohabitate with. They add an interesting experience where you never quite know where they will be. Maybe on a rock, on a leaf, the glass, or hiding in a decoration.
Good video as always and a nice list. White clouds are one of my favorite fish and I have had them on and off for years. I have always found mine to do best in the 68-70 degree range in groups of 10+. They are just so much more active for me in these conditions.
I just added fish to my very first community tank. Standard 20 gallon. Got my fish from Flip Aquatics. I have some Harlequin Raboras, Green Kubotai Rasboras, Albino Cory doras, and one Red Honey Gourami Male he is my centerpiece fish. I'm loving it! Great choices for beginner fish. Gina Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Joanna. 🎄🎄🎄
This is a great list of colorful beginner fish. Golden White Clouds are another alternative to the common version. One caution: bettas and plecos might not be a good pairing. I had a male plakat betta that HATED plecos. I think it was due to the betta and plecos being roughly the same size. Finally: not a fish, but cherry shrimp are another great beginner critter for smaller aquariums.
@@emmagatewood3898I think so. Like many small fish they tend to feel safer in groups, plus they breed very easily which is always a fun experience and will help to replace any that might get eaten by fish
I've been in the hobby off and on since the mid 1960s. Your channel offers great advice and I look forward to learning about the chemistry and biology associated with the aquarium hobby. Have a Safe, Healthy and Happy Holiday Season! Cheers!
Great video 👍 I've had all these fish in different tanks through the years and my most favourite is the red and black harlequin rasbora always kept them and purchased some purple ones with gold tipped noses those are nice little stunners and quick breeders. Pleco's are great but i prefer Hillstream loaches against them with adorable playful personalities in larger groups which i have, the only thing against them is the expense. I had Endlers and never again being an hybrid of the original guppy i found them to be fin nippers especially to fish with larger tails and especially proper guppies.
I am a long time cichlid keeper, but having downsized to a 40 breeder, I now keep kribensis. I currently have 5 female in my tank with platys and swordtails(which the kribs keep the offspring from surviving) and a rubberlip pleco. I am now on the lookout for an African butterfly fish as the tank is now seasoned as it has been up are running for about 1.5 years.
Check local prices on panda corys. This depends on your country. In Canada I'm seeing panda corys listed for $12-$15 (CAN) each. Other corys, such as the bronze/albino and peppered varieties are much more reasonably priced at around $5-$6 each.
work for a petstore chain and live around the corner from a big als in ontario and peppered cories prices just went up but im seeing pandas around $8, juliis are still a great low price but peppered have been rising in popularity lately
I love black neon tetras . When I was a beginner I had 8 of them in a cold water community tank and they lived even though it’s cold water and there still all alive today
Ho doing a restock of my tank. Would Killifish and Apistogramma make good tank mates? I have a 40-gallon tank. And how many of each? Any other tank mate recommendations?
im so happy black neon tetras are on this list, they arent on a lot of these types of lists they are a great fish and imo a way more "beginner friendly" but overlooked by the neon tetra
Cherry barbs maxing out at about an inch? I guess mine are behemoths then. Unfortunately, the panda corys we get here in Croatia are very frail compared to some other corys. It's pretty much hit or miss with them. I've had groups of 8-10, sometimes more, where I would either have 1 or 2 losses, or a complete wipeout. All fish appeared to be healthy and behaved normally, and then they would die without any external signs of illness. If I had any survivors after the first two weeks, those would be the ones I'd never have any problems with. They are fairly cheap though, compared to the other "fancy" corys (anything that's not the usual aeneus and paleatus) that we get here - 2-3€ per cory for pandas, compared to 9-10€ per cory for sterbais.
Even before starting to watch the clip was thinking...Rasbora must be on top 3 if not the first. 🤭😁 Also, in my country, they are amoung the cheapest aquarium fish available, at the equivalent of 1$ a piece, same for neon tetra.
Just never get a pair of bristlenose plecos. I learned the hard way that they breed like crazy - which is fun and cute at first - until you realise that the fry are like tiny armored superfish so nothing eats them in your tank. Which means that you are now a proud parent of MANY bristlenose pleco babies, and yeah. No fish keeper wants the neverending bristlenose pleco babies you've got.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I admit, the abundance of bristlenose plecos might be a local problem. It's a super common aquarium fish in my country, and I'm certainly not the only one that has had a baby boom 😅 Lots of online ads about them.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Oddly, I had heard similar comments about locally-grown zebra danios from folks in different parts of the US. I hope they're not on the decline. However, here in South Korea, the ones I have been keeping have been extremely hardy (and no bent spines). The same holds true for the ones my students have been keeping (for those who remembered to keep a lid on their tank).
@@DahLekKnight Here in Croatia, zebra danios are practically indestructible. I tend to joke that they would easily survive a nuclear fallout, along with the roaches.

What was blue fish in the black neon tank (at the 4:46 mark)? It was active and pretty.

I want to add golden wonder killi to the list. They don’t bother anyone, pretty, and hardy

Could I put white cloud and cherry barb in the same tank?

How about medaka rice fish? I've got a little school of 4 a few months ago, and they've been a delight so far...

I have a suggestion, top ten fish doing prettiest mating dance. #Empire goby ^^
I've found male cherry barbs extremely teratorial and relentlessly chasing
I have a hard time with the pandas. I'm down to 3 from a group of 8. I don't have a problem with other fish, just them. Idk why :(

Danios are another very hardy fish that take a wide range of water parameters.
Keep in mind that Bristlenose Plecos are known to snack on Amazon Sword plants.
