Just did it exactly as layed out here. Now it scrolls the hell out of the screen again.
Amazon swapped out the mouse twice while in the warranty period, but the mouse wheel thing is persistent throughout the Roccat Kone Aimos, it seems.
Had the two cheap rotary encoders lying around since I found this videos roughly two years ago. Always thought "tomorrow" LOL
Today I finally did the repair. Took about 15 minutes without any hurry at all.
Thank you for the effort, the reassuring result and the knowledge!

This happens to the Kone XP Air as well. It's not very old and I'm having unreliable scrolling now. :(

Just replace it. Not worth the constant hassle, esp not when gaming.

how do the wires tolerate heat? I've had issues with the wire supplied inside a camera, where their shielding was melting due to the heat of the solder. i had to sleeve them with shrink tape.
I had a couple of roccat with the scroll wheel problem, reached to roccat, shitty customer service, returned to amazon, and I have tried a couple of mice since. But they are all too small for my hand... the kone and kain 200 were by far the best, but they both had the scroll wheel issue.
I have been thinking I might get one of these and fix it myself.

HONESTY GREAT VIDEO EXPLINATION. I purchased the same encoder through your link somehow I ended up receiving 2 so I guess I have a spare. I have literally just finished replacing the new part and it feels soo much better a lot more firm but defiantly mushy but in a good way. I only had my Roccat for roughly 5 months and the wheel went Pretty straight forward job very easy to do even if you have next to no soldering experience. Once again thanks for the video dude.

what happened to your encoder exactly? for me it was double clicking when i used the wheel click. i simply cleaned it with isop alc and let it dry out and it worked again for a long time. now it is double clicking again and i was hoping a replacement would work for longer but i wouldnt bother if its just going to double click again lol.
so did yours completely stop working or did it just double click?

@@BrickTamlandOfficial when I was scrolling it would skip and jump so I would scroll soo far down a page then it would skip and jump back up the page then continue to scroll back down again. I still haven't had another issue since changing it best thing I ever did suck a shame a great mouse comes with these issues and the user has to fix it themselves.

Hello! I have a weird issue that my Mousewheel-click sometimes doesnt registers or clicks 5 times in a row. Could this also fix my issue or is it likely a different part?

Good video! why not buy one with the harness already on it? Or at least disconnect the old one from the board and use those tweezers and tape the new one to your bench for soldering. Far easier to do a little prep than to fight with it

Thank you! Just did this to Roccat Kova. I just had to clean the small switches. If anyone still has this model, there are two more screws under the sticker by the cable...

hello! I just have a few question about fixing the scroll wheel
    1. If i were to remove the skates, would it make the quality of the skates not as smooth? Ive seen other tutorials where i saw one comment that said their skates werent as good as before taking the skates apart
    2. How long did it take for the replacement to arrive?
    3. those this tutorial work with the roccat kain 100?
    thanks in advance

Which is the best 9mm rotary encoder you can buy?

Not sure what you mean by best. If you're looking for longevity, I haven't found one that lasts longer than 1yr. But I'm pretty aggressive with my mousewheels. As for feel, you'll have to try them yourself. The one I linked in the description feels more mushy than the original Roccat rotary encoder.

Roccat has known about these problems for a long time, but they have not had their Chinese manufacturers fix the problems.

Try using lead solder (40/60 tin/lead) or a higher temperature

Thanks for the tutorial! I used it for a Kain 200 Aimo Wireless, which is a bit different to open (check here: ruclips.net/video/2RiBLoLuxJA/видео.html), but the soldering part is the same.
Some additional info for everyone else who is attempting this repair:
    * I bought both the encoder with the orange core and the
teal core to see which one worked better. Turned out the orange encoder was a bit too large and didn't fit in the plastic housing even after I removed the metal clips. So just buy the teal one and you'll be fine. It feels similar to the original.
    * After I reassembled the mouse, the wheel was very hard to move. Turned out that it scraped the housing because the wheel was no longer perfectly centered and I wasn't able to correct this by refitting the wheel, so I just used a sharp knife (a boxcutter will do) to remove some of the plastic where the wheel was coming in contact with the frame of the mouse. You can't even see it but it made all the difference.
Now my mouse wheel works great again!
