Followed the steps and now mine performs almost perfect. It was extremely terrible before, scrolling in a random direction every single scroll. The contact pins looked fine on mine, not bent weird or flattened, but I did notice one of the three had a noticeable gob of grease on it. The plate it rubs against was also heavily scored. I'm very surprised this fixed it as I didn't do much except clean the two surfaces. I don't see it lasting too much longer due to the scoring, but at least I tried and fixed it for the time being. Thank you very much for your help, much appreciated.
I have Kain 120 wireless with mousewheel-up and mousewheel-down binded to different items in dota, and at some point scroll up started to activate down and visa versa. The cleanup demonstrated in this video helped - all back to precise directions. To be honest, I didn't expect it to work. Thank you very much!
A started to have scroll wheel problems after about 6 months on a Kain 120. Google finds an increasing number of results, lots of them fail before first year. The most common problem is that the wheel sometimes reports a single scroll in the oposite direction, so you keep scrolling down and sometimes it scrolls one up then goes back to down. Nice mouse but highly annoying. They used the absolute cheapest rotary encoders. Thanks for showing how to open all parts without breaking anything
@@KarenTookTheKids I've cleaned the encoder with contact cleaner and it seems to work. But I should probably search for a compatible encoder, I doubt the fix sill last and the warranty will replace it with the same low quality type. It seems the one in Kain 120 is a 7mm encoder but I didn't think to test the detents/impulses when I cleaned it.
this works on the 120 aimo as well the only differences being that you have to take out the rgb circuit on the roccat logo which is only an extra 2 screws before taking out the click assembly other than this slight hindrance this is a great guide and i would recommend this to anyone who has this issue, Great guide saved me 50$ as well as keeping my mouse out of the e waste bin 10/10
It actually works, I'm really bad when it comes to fixing thinks like that but your guide was really easy to follow. My mouse works flawlessly now, thank you!
This worked and made my scroll wheel much smoother and work perfectly! BEWARE however, the wires on the scroll wheel pins are extremely fragile, I nicked it and all three wires ripped off! All you have to do though is strip back the wire and wrap it around the pins, stick it down with some electrical tape and done! I have a kain 122 aimo so make sure to unscrew the back LED first and plug in, this caused me some confusion at first… Good video!
I just fixed my Kain 100 with the help from your excellent video. I believe we throw away things too quickly novadays. videos like this helps reducing the ever growing garbage piles of the world.
Woooooeeeeaaah!!!! (Right after the blow drying...) Hilarious! 😂 Anyhow, well done and thanks for making this. My experience with the fix: It mostly worked... The scroll wheel on my Kain 100 Aimo works much better, but it still skips a little bit. I think it goes without saying that either the manufacture, engineering, or both are flawed with this mouse-and, let's be honest, it's probably both. However, as the fix goes, my prowess in tinkering in this case could have been flawed. Plus, despite trying to be delicate, my bull-in-a-china-shop hands managed to break one of the cage pins off. It didn't seem to have an effect on the final result of putting it back together (it felt solid) but maybe it did. Also, at some point I managed to break free the right click mechanism and it was a bit of a headache to get it clicked between the plastic clips correctly. A little mouse talk: When compared to the scroll wheels on some of my other mice (e.g., EVGA Torq X10 Carbon, Razer Viper & Viper Mini, and Logitech G903 SE) the Kain simply isn't as good. Besides the Kain, I also own a Roccat Burst & Kone Aimo. The Roccat scroll wheels are generally not as nice feeling, in my opinion. But the Burst gets pretty darn close. The Kain 100 Aimo has an interesting design and that's what initially piqued my interest. I like to have mice that feel different in my hands (sometimes I use them ambidextrously) because it keeps things interesting. (For long coding sessions I sometimes like to use a fat mouse with a thumb rest, like the Kone.) The flat side on the left of the Kain 100 and built in grippy texture make for a unique experience. The flat side, however, makes the mouse a right hand only mouse. :::End mouse blather:::😁
Thanks so much. It turns out there was a bit of silicone stuff in the scroll sensor. Gave it a good clean and now it workd perfectly. Definately a scary task to do ngl

This may fix "some" issues, not mine, all mine needed was a couple drops of 3 and 1 oil directly down the sides of the wheel, Just a couple drops! Works fine now! Mine had problems scrolling up and down, would stutter and scroll the opposite direction, sucked!

had to fix the mouse again. freakin' roccat. this was a replacement for an RMA and they don't renew the warranty. that's twice i had to fix the mousewheel on this very same unit. i hope they fix this for future designs.
I just fixed the glitch… thanks for the instructions.. it was really dirty on the contacts… i reused the pads. I put the mousepads facing to the sun for 5-10 min… then they peeled off perfectly. Make sure you put them flat on a bakingpaper and put a heavy book on them while they cool down, then they wont bent up …
Could someone provide me with the link to purchase another sensor for the little wheel? Or a sensor that is compatible, as long as it is already soldered with the wires?
Dammit. At 8:45 after placing the scroll wheel back in its crooked. Looks like it's not pushed all the way in and it's slanted to the left.
