I love Soulfly! I got a tattoo of the Primitive cover when I was probably 18 or 19. Seen them live three times.

What do you think of Totem? Dark Ages definitely, and probably my favorite of the Instrumentals is from Dark Ages also, though I really like the one from Omen as well as so many others. The new one from Totem is good and the shortest of the Soulfly instrumentals. Anyway, always thought it was cool when Max incorporates reggae/dub elements, which works perfect on “Bring It” from Primitive. Our Metal Marley 🤘. Another cool Dark Ages jam is “Inner-Spirit” with Cajote of Eyesburn, that song is rad. It was a killer awesome surprise to hear him at the end of “Spirit Animal” off Totem, and it works. Perfect way to end that new album with the instrumental and Spirit Animal that followed. So many bangers on all Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy albums. Luv Conquer, but agree Dark Ages all around is their best, from the beginning, that “Intro”leading into “Babylon” awe so killer. Prophecy as well being a close tie. So many awesome bangers and it was the first album to feature the best line-up Soulfly ever had, not counting Dave from Megadeath, but when it was Bobby on Bass, Joe on Drums and Rizzo on lead. Worst thing that could have happened was losing Rizzo. He is to Max what Randy Rhodes was to Ozzy. Anyway though, yea killer jams on Prophecy, such as “Living Sacrifice”, “Execution Style”, “Defeat U”, “Moses” which features Cajote also, and of course the song itself “PROPHECY”. Probably my favorite Soulfly song as a whole with incorporating everything unique and badass about Soulfly. From the spiritual lyrics, to the cool experimental Whammy effects, to the drumming with tribal elements, to sheer brutality and ending with some worldly samples on the studio version. Max’s sheer vocal brutality with the song THIS IS THE PROPHECY! I see the times in this armaggideon I see the flag of the conquering lion I must reach the mountains of Zion
I'm with the prophets and the prophecy goes on…THIS IS THR PROPHECY!!!!!!! Hahaha awe I fuxkn luv that shxt!!! 🤘🎸🤘Overall I agree with everything you said, cool video, Cheers! 🤘

@@hughesyplays AWE YOU MUST BROTHER! 🤘 Start with song “Filth Upon Filth” You won’t be disappointed. Slayer groove all over the place with that song. Max may have allowed Arthur Risk who also produced Totem, his 2nd Soulfly album as Ritual was his first, and he worked with Max on Cavalera Conspiracy’s last badass album “Psychosis” and some of the Killer Be Killed stuff and Max and his other son’s band Go Ahead And Die. Well anyway dude is also a sic guitar player and Max had him on lead guitar for new Soulfly album. Max may have allowed him to go a little hay-wire on his leads/solos throughout the new album since the album is missing Rizzo, but dude held his own big time and I think his leads sound great on “Filth Upon Filth”. You’ll know what I’m saying though when you start listening to the whole album about his leads/solos like how “Scouring the Vile” starts out, which happens to be a song that is a letter to FXCK U CANCER. It’s kind of like ok is this how the whole album is gonna be with this dude just freestyling leads all over the place whenever he feels it haha but Max probably felt fans were worried how new album would sound without Rizzo and wanted to make sure he had a lead guitarist who could rip and wanted to give him free reign to do so. Only 10 songs, which I thought was short for Soulfly like Ritual was and especially considering this is the longest break we have ever had between Soulfly releases. Ritual came out 4 years ago, so we were definitely in need of some new Soulfly. If you like Soulfly checkout Cavalera Conspiracy which was basically Soulfly all the same members in the end, but with Max’s brother and band mate from Sepultura days, Igor on drums. Songs like “Not Losing The Edge” which is a song off their 3rd album, that is total Soulfly. Same with song off first album “Inflikted” Their 4th and last album Psychosis, the album cover totally could have been a Soulfly album cover and the instrumental on it with the tribal drumming and stuff is total Sepultura/Soulfly. It has badass songs like “Insane” “Terror Tactics” (which is my favorite song from that album, just sheer brutal speed of a jam with haunting vocals) and “Spectral War” which Insane and Spec War were both singles for the album. Only 9 tracks but is such a brutal album, and though very thrashy and deathmetalish, still has groove within.

Interesting list. Mine is sooo very different. I'm not big on his NU leanings early on.
But that's cool, we all hear it our own way.
Thanks for the video, I'll check out more from you.

I do have to say one of my least favorites musically as I agreed with what you said about it, but as far as album covers go “Archangel” will forever be my favorite Soulfly album cover. The way the artist made St. Michael’s wings into the Soulfly emblem and even on the weapon used to slash demons haha Max and Soulfly are the best 🤘🎸🤘. Also though Savages was the first full album to feature Max’s son on it, I feel more of the groove was brought back with Savages compared to Enslaved but Enslaved had David Kinkade on drums, so we were to expect hearing a lot more death metal, and though a killer drummer and a lot of Soulfly fans favorite album, I will say Max’s son has brought more groove back into the drumming and one of the best groove riffs was “Bloodshed” Was so stoked when that song first dropped as first single from Savages. Anyway as far as Max’s son drumming, Totem is the best his drumming has sounded yet. Especially since joining his dad’s band as full time drummer since Savages.

I agree with list, except I would've put Archangel at number 11 and Omen at number 10. My reason for this is because of the production and on one of the songs on Archangel, it turned me off. The worst thing about the album for me is the high screeming vocals on Live Life Hard! which sounds silly to me and not at all Metal. Max has done high vocals too, but this wasn't Max and I wish it was him screaming throughout the entire song.

Good point. I think sometimes over screaming for effect can ruin a song! Has to be right! Thanks for watching brother!🍺👍
