1. The Great Southern Trendkill 2. Far Beyond Driven 3. Cowboys from Hell 4. Reinventing the Steel 5. Vulgar Display of Power 6. Power Metal But honestly, they're all A+ albums.
This just confirms that the Pantera band members all thought Reinventing the Steel was their best effort. For fans we always think of Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven as the tops with The Great Southern Trendkill and Reinventing the Steel as the bottom.
All Panteras albums are almost...almost equally beloved. Reinventing The Steel is a classic and has been voted such numerous times over the years. I see more n more people ranking it #1.
Trendkill is the perfect album for me. Followed by cfh, vulgar, reinvt. steel, fbd, pm. Glad to see Phil always showing love to reinventing the steel over the yrs. That album is criminally underrated by most "regular people" :() thrreeeeeeeeee 👉👂👈
My ranking: 1. Cowboys from Hell 2. Far Beyond Driven 3. The Great Southern Trendkill. 4. Vulgar Display of Power 5. Official Live 101 Proof 6. Power Metal 7. Reinventing the Steel.
The video description was right. His ranking did surprise me. I can't comment on Power Metal or anything prior because I've never listened to them. But, from those five, I wouldn't put Reinventing The Steel as the best. It's a tough batch to rank. My list would have to go with Cowboys From Hell and The Great Southern Trendkill tied, followed by Vulgar Display of Power, Reinventing the Steel, and Far Beyond Driven. Creating that list makes me want to sit down and listen to them carefully to see if a true rank exists. They're all good. Definitely one of my favorite bands ever. I just wish I could have seen them live.
Reinventing The Steel is still my favorite. Lots of revisionist history about RTS. Revolver readers just voted it the fourth greatest final album of all time. They recorded separately on TRENDKILL not Steel. The fire album cover is literally from a night of all the guys hanging out and the guy was Philips tech guy Dustin. The band took their time and all four guys loved that album. Philips rank is also mine... *#1 Reinventing The Steel* #2 Far Beyond Driven #3 Vulgar Display Of Power #4 The Great Southern Trendkill #5 Cowboys From Hell For anyone interested, Rex Browns rank on THAT METAL SHOW 2015ish #1 Vulgar Display Of Power *#2 Reinventing The Steel* #3 Far Beyond Driven #4 The Great Southern Trendkill #5 Cowboys From Hell
the one shame about Reinventing was the production sucked, but the re-master was done with their long time producer and fixed the problems so all is well in the world
Damn mines almost the reverse to Phils. Goes in order except for Power Metal in at 5. Cowboys From Hell Vulgar Display of Power Far Beyond Driven The Great Southern Trendkill Power Metal Reinventing The Steel
Far Beyond still blows me away - been listening nonstop since I was 13. Second half of that record (I got it on tape originally) just rolls and evicerates.
Trendkill will always be the best one. Weird he ranked it 4, considering his sideprojects/other bands (Superjoint Ritual/Illegals) all sound closest to that album. He ranks Reinventing The Steel 1 even though most fans would rank it 5 lmao
Reinventing the steel just sounds incomplete to me. Some of the vocals don't sound polished and some of the songs don't sound well mixed or mastered. The hits sound great but the rest are lacking.
RTS is nowhete near as hated as people think. Its my favorite, and its been voted an all rime classic in metal books by fans and recently (2020) revolver readers voted it the fourth greatest final album of all time. The whole band LOVED that album.
those 2 songs on the LIVE record were FANTASTIC. not saying they were any better or worse than the other albums he listed, but i LOVE those songs. I Can't Hide and Where You Come From are fuckin' KILLER!!! :D
What I love about Cowboys is its a crossover of phils voice from a full on high range 80s metal vocalist you see on Power Metal to the screams and growls he did for the rest of his career. Its best seen on Cemetery Gates. Probably the best Phil had ever sung.
Although Power Metal album overall in the high range as 80s, Cowboys from Hell has Phil's highest notes in screams.. By far, 1. Shattered (demo) has the highest note B5, and the C6 was disputed, because it's in a distorted scream, hard to say. 2. Cemetery Gates, The Will To Survive, and Cowboys from Hell - all these songs have A5 highest note.. Which on Power Metal he didn't hit as high as this. But yeah Cowboys is definitely a crossover where he still did the extremely high notes but also did some growls and harsh screams.
Yeah. It also seems like he got confused when Phil mentioned power metal, I bet that guy didn't even know about that record. He even said "we added the sixth, power metal, because it is a sixth"...
@@sparkygg5886 Lmao yes he and everybody else knows about Power Metal and the glam days, but he dances around it the whole time out of fear of mentioning it.
It's almost impossible to do this without setting the parameters...like personal favorite? Most "important"? Commercially? Artistry? To me, it comes down to, what records were they the tightest, most creative, heaviest version of themselves doing THEIR sound...and in that light: 1. Trendkill - Easily their heaviest, most brutal, most experimental while still being super tight, and most creative output. You can find other bands that sound like stuff from the other records...but no one sounds like Trendkill. 2. Vulgar Display of Power - They found their sound and went all in...this album is essentially Pantera's version of AIC's Dirt. Not in sound comparison...but it was the album where they found their sound stopped trying to be anyone else. 3. Far Beyond Driven - Debut's at number 1. Is arguably a better collection of songs than Vulgar. Shades of the records that come before and after it. 4. Reinventing the Steel - In pure riffage...it's up there with any of the albums. GDE, RIMN, and YDMS are easily as intense as anything they put out. 5. Cowboy's - They got their couple big tunes in but the Judas Priest type vocals, weaker songs, etc just fall short of everything else.

good one.. For me: 1. The Art of Shredding 2. Shattered 3.Slaughtered 4. The Will to Survive 5. No Good (Attack the Radical) 6. Suicide Note (both parts) 7. The Great Southern Trendkill 8. Hell's Wrath (Living through me) 9. Use my Third Arm 10. Nothin' On (But The Radio) - you said Pantera, and this from the 1983 album ''Metal Magic''. and I love that song. :D
1 Revolution Is My Name 2 Suicide Note Part 1 3 Floods 4 Goddamn Electric 5 Becoming 6 I'll Cast A Shadow 7 Strength Beyond Strength 8 New Level 9 Mouth For War 10 Primal Concrete Sledge Their best heavy groovy songs with melody were on RTS and their best mellower songs were on TGSTK

He could hit some crazy notes, dudes got a great voice.
for my tgstk is hes best vocal work
"Wwwllllaaaaaahhhhgggg, Maaan"
Philip. H Anselmo. 2021
Power metal was a kick ass album and Phil's best vocal performance
TGSTK is their best album cuz scream PanterA more than any other
agreed.
I’m positively surprised by the amount of people choosing TGSTK as their favorite. It’s always been mine but I thought for most Pantera fans it’s the least liked
@@Undaglibenglaubengloben Actually Reinventing The Steel is my least favorite. I have to go with VDOP, TGSTK, FBD, CFH, RTS.
@@Undaglibenglaubengloben Well for me it is. My ranking from best to worst are Vulgar Display Of Power, Far Beyond Driven, Cowboys From Hell, Reinventing The Steel, Power Metal and The Great Southern Trendkill. And there is no particular reason for TGST album being last, but I'd say it's the feels. All of Pantera albums are great and masterpieces.
Yeah Trendkill is my favorite, not the first I heard but first album of theirs I owned (on tape). Followed closely by Far Beyond Driven.
1. The Great Southern Trendkill
2. Far Beyond Driven
3. Cowboys from Hell
4. Reinventing the Steel
5. Vulgar Display of Power
6. Power Metal
But honestly, they're all A+ albums.
Great to see all TGSTK squad in the comments🔥easily my favorite, and their most progressive.
But it does not change thé fact that trend kill has thé least number of live friendly songs
@@indianmilitary Damn dude, you don't have to spam this in every comment about TGSTK.
That album is criminally underrated by most "regular people" :() thrreeeeeeeeee
👉👂👈
Cowboys and Vulgar are my faves personally.
I completely agreed!!! Reinventing the steel is so underappreciated!
ya, felt like he was right. reinventing was like a complete album of songs from start to finish
Man I love far beyond driven but great southern trend kill has my heart.
My ranking:
1. Cowboys from Hell
2. Far Beyond Driven
3. The Great Southern Trendkill.
4. Vulgar Display of Power
5. Official Live 101 Proof
6. Power Metal
Definitely listen to Power Metal if you like Judas Priest.
Reinventing the steel is amazing
I remember when cowboys came out , it spiked my interest. Vulgar cemented Pantera as my favorite band of all times both live and recorded
Phil Anselmo is a metal legend love this man.
*#1 Reinventing The Steel*
#2 Far Beyond Driven
#3 Vulgar Display Of Power
#4 The Great Southern Trendkill
#5 Cowboys From Hell
For anyone interested, Rex Browns rank on THAT METAL SHOW 2015ish
#1 Vulgar Display Of Power
*#2 Reinventing The Steel*
#3 Far Beyond Driven
#4 The Great Southern Trendkill
#5 Cowboys From Hell
I also agree with Phil's choices.
the one shame about Reinventing was the production sucked, but the re-master was done with their long time producer and fixed the problems so all is well in the world
@@mat.b.
I thought the production was good - what was wrong with it?
@@dowens3781 Yeah honestly, it's my FAVORITE produced album also
Damn mines almost the reverse to Phils. Goes in order except for Power Metal in at 5.
Cowboys From Hell
Vulgar Display of Power
Far Beyond Driven
The Great Southern Trendkill
Power Metal
Reinventing The Steel
That is the most common list
Initial I thought he was ranking them backwards haha. Was surprised to find out different!
Reinventing is the best swan song by any band ever. Love it.
Agreed
The great southern trendkill is just a brutal in your face metal record🤘
Far Beyond still blows me away - been listening nonstop since I was 13. Second half of that record (I got it on tape originally) just rolls and evicerates.
Trendkill is such an underrated album.
Vulgar was my introduction to pantera and will always hold a place in my heart
Power metal is the first PANTERA album I heard and is a great album, no one talk about this really amazing record
They made three albums before power metal
@@maxblomgren7995 he was saying it's the first one he heard, not the first one made
@@communityentertainment5144 yes i know, just wanted to let him know that there is also three more heavy metal albums in case he didn't know
Unless you were living in the Dallas area, I call BS. Almost no one knew who they were until VDOP in 92, by 94 the whole world cought on
Cowboys will always be my favorite. I love every song from there.
For me
1. Vulgar Display of Power
2. Far Beyond Driven
3. Cowboys from Hell
4. Reinventing the Steel
5. TGST
Mine same except I swapped far to 1 and vulgar 2.
And power metal?
That’s Crazy CFH is my absolute favorite, Phil’s voice on that record was like Hetfield from the black album mixed w Halford from painkiller.
This is confusing because for a second it sounds like he is saying Power Metal is #1
Phil's list was/is identical to mine. I kept saying them first hoping he'd say them too and he did!
Trendkill will always be the best one. Weird he ranked it 4, considering his sideprojects/other bands (Superjoint Ritual/Illegals) all sound closest to that album. He ranks Reinventing The Steel 1 even though most fans would rank it 5 lmao
Oddly enough, I see the most hate for Trendkill. even though, IMO, it's their best record.
Trendkill and cowboys are my 2 favourite , all their albums have a special place in my heart since highschool, but especially cowboys and trendkill
Is it because of the guitar solos? Trendkill & CFH...?
The G.O.A.T. 🔥🐐🔥
1.Cowboys from Hell
2.The great southern trendkill
3.Vulgar Display of Power
4.Reinventing the steel
5.Far beyond driven
Dude thought Phil was ordering him to go to his room 😂 2:10
those 2 songs on the LIVE record were FANTASTIC. not saying they were any better or worse than the other albums he listed, but i LOVE those songs. I Can't Hide and Where You Come From are fuckin' KILLER!!! :D
Great southern trend kill will always be my favorite
“Cowboys From Hell”
“Vulgar Display Of Power”
“Power Metal”
“Far Beyond Driven”
Is my favorite albums \m/
Dime / Vinnie Forever
Pantera Forever
Each Pantera album has the same principal style but overall different feels to them.
Far beyond driven is my favorite... but I guess it’s finally time to listen to reinventing in full
Reinventing The Steel is their greatest album in my opinion. Takes a while to grow on you but its unbelievable
Far beyond driven is the greatest album by far
Saw on a poll from Pantera fans that Far Beyond Driven was their favorite album number 1 and Reinventing the Steel was 5.
I always know that he didn't like to much The CFH album haha
I am glad that he included Power Metal.
This interviewer sucks: asks the same question 3 times, uses "like" a lot, then doesn't listen to Phil's answer. "Was Trendkill in there?"
I know right!! Spit it out dude!!
Totally annoyed me too , making him repeat his answer that We all heard. Dildo.
He didn't know shit from shinola.
It's almost impossible to do this without setting the parameters...like personal favorite? Most "important"? Commercially? Artistry?
To me, it comes down to, what records were they the tightest, most creative, heaviest version of themselves doing THEIR sound...and in that light:
Which 10 Songs would be on your personal "best of Pantera" album?
Slaughtered
Throes of Rejection
Message in Blood
I'll cast a Shadow
War Nerve
Domination
Regular People
Use my 3rd Arm
This Love
Belong to It
I was trying to stay away from their "Hits" lol
good one.. For me:
1. The Art of Shredding
2. Shattered
3.Slaughtered
4. The Will to Survive
5. No Good (Attack the Radical)
6. Suicide Note (both parts)
7. The Great Southern Trendkill
8. Hell's Wrath (Living through me)
9. Use my Third Arm
10. Nothin' On (But The Radio) - you said Pantera, and this from the 1983 album ''Metal Magic''. and I love that song. :D
To me their best of would be their entire discography lmao
1 Revolution Is My Name
2 Suicide Note Part 1
3 Floods
4 Goddamn Electric
5 Becoming
6 I'll Cast A Shadow
7 Strength Beyond Strength
8 New Level
9 Mouth For War
10 Primal Concrete Sledge
Their best heavy groovy songs with melody were on RTS and their best mellower songs were on TGSTK
Whichever song I am listening to tends to be my favorite Pantera song.
@@integrity101 the best Brutal songs were on TGSTK as well. Like Floods, Suicide note part 1 are the only mellower songs on it (the rest is brutal AF.)
Would love to hear Phil talk more about Power Metal I honestly love that album and it might be my favorite of all their albums!
Top 3 PM songs?
@@integrity101 “We’ll meet again”, “Hard Ride”, “over and out”. Love them all! Phil could really sing back then too!
My Favs are Far Beyond Driver & Reinventing the Steel
I just wanna say thank you phil...for those beautiful albums...pantera is a unique metal band
I honestly can't fucking rank them. All the albums with Phil on them are literally perfect, the best thrash metal shit ever made
Very cool for him to rank them.
The Great Southern Trendkill best album
Southern trendkill is probably my favorite record of all time
No album has a better opening than The Great Southern Trendkill.
Um, Cowboys from Hell opens with motherfucking Cowboys from Hell
FBD would like a word with you
Great to see Phil mention Power Metal as well :)
Vulgar is obviously the best album from start to finish.
Fuck that's a tough one. Personally I'd go Far beyond Driven, great southern Trendkill, Vulgar Display of Power, Reinventing The Steel, cowboys from Hell, ...Powermetal
