That bandwidth setting is only for the ethernet only and not the Wi-Fi. So unless you're using ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, you're not going to see a difference in bandwidth consumption over Wi-Fi.
This does not work on newer TCL TVs. The menu is there but the bit rate selected will not stay. It will revert back to Auto after pressing Home button.
It's not just the newer TV... This procedure no longer works well, it's part of the v9.4 OS/firmware. I think it does work but when you re-enter this menu, it's reset to "auto"... However, once you set the lower rate, it does appear to stick until you restart Roku or reenter this menu. Roku is just silly not to expose this on the normal menu, so people can chose to manage their bandwidth usage better at their own choice. A smooth streaming show at lower rate is much better than a constant buffering show, or one the chews through your ISP monthly allowances.
My Ruko model 3930RW doesn't matter what manual selection you make it goes right back to Automatic. I tried hitting the home button for streaming and could tell the picture was perfect even on the lowest setting so that doesn't work with the ruko I picked up last week. My budget doesn't allow me to have unlimited amounts of data, I wanted to lower it. I guess I'll take it back and go with a different streaming device.
My Roku stick bandwidth keeps spiking to over 200mbps bandwidth. I have no idea how to stop it, or why it's even using that much bandwidth in the first place. It's absolutely insane.
It's not working on my Roku 3. I've tried several times. I noticed your screen says you are not connected to WiFi, so I even disconnected the WiFi and tried again several more times. I have an LG TV with a Roku 3 box. Any suggestions?
MY GOD! THANK YOU! I run a trailer park wifi and Every single crying person has a Roku. Everyone else is fine. This should give me a solution. Thank you so much!
I learned this trick years ago and it worked for a long time but now if you change the setting to the lowest and then go back in to check it, it has automatically changed back to the highest setting. Do you know why it is doing that and how to get it to stay on the lowest setting? I'm not sure why this worked for years for me but doesn't now.
We have found that issue as well. If you set it and go back to the home screen but for some reason if you go back to the settings it auto checks the max again. Hopefully this is glitch Roku can fix.
Does this work on the new Roku sticks? I tried it and no matter how fast I entered the buttons on the remote I could not get to the screen to change to the menu letting me change the data rate. I was visiting a friend in another State who would get disconnected from his wifi and thought it would be worth seeing if this would help. He has a strong WiFi signal so that's not the problem.

If you set a bandwidth limit and if you go out and then go back to the bandwidth saver for some reason it sets back to automatic. Roku released an update a while back that introduced this bug and they have not fixed it.
Try rebooting the roku as well as your internet equipment. If that doesn't work try deleting the network information from your roku and inputting it in again.
My internet went off last night and I called the cable company at 1:00 in the morning because my recovery mode purple screen won't go off the Roku TV and I did everything restarted it unplugged it I don't know what else to do I' called TCL and Roku and ain't nothing they can do and cable company nothing I can do so I just don't know what to do do you? One other thing you can try is to perform a factory reset. Depending on your model of TV you may have a reset button on the back of the TV that will reset it to factory settings when you took it out of the box.
Came to try this because certain apps crash after about 3 minutes of playing. Only Netflix will play past that and I’m at my wits end. I feel that I have tried everything (factory reset, manually reset, uninstalled and installed apps...)Have you seen this before?

Yes, if you go back and double check the setting it resets to 12 for some reason. Just set it and hit the home button to begin streaming and you should be all set. That reset glitch has been there for a while.
@@TheRedgog22 that's strange. Makes you wonder if Philips did some kind of modification of the firmware to disable this feature. I wouldn't think they would but stranger things have happened. I just updated to os 10 on our TCL and it's still available.
Many Rural areas do not have providers and you have to go with Hughes net satellite which charges you dearly for the data you use. So rather than using a months data in 2 or 3 days, we are willing to stuffer some on quality to afford having a provider.
