I remember as a Liverpool fan in '08 we wanted to sell Xabi Alonso for Barry + profit, and contrary to hindsight at that time it seemed like a good deal because Barry was in better form. That's the kind of level Gareth Barry was at in his peak. In hindsight it might seem silly, but at that time it was very conceivable to think that way. It's not like Barry did so bad even after that peak form- was a regular for a City team that was chasing the Prem every season.
@@Tridentus Also in the PL it's arguable Barry was more effective than Alonso. Of course Alonso had that great passing but Barry was better at winning it back and being a physical presence.
Along with Michael Carrick, Gareth Barry is the most disrespected English player of that era. Ran midfields with his brain and improved everyone around him with how he played the game.
Farewell Gareth Barry. A great servant to Aston Villa FC, and English football on a whole.
English Makelele.
People don’t realise how good this guy was for Man City, he literally allowed Yaya Toure to do whatever he wanted.
Pellegrini clueless replacing him with Javi Garcia who was 💩
Probably our best ever premier league player.
He was so underrated, phenomenal player

Paul McGrath
He was that glad he got to win a PL league + FA cup etc Premier League legend for sure very underrated
The complete midfielder.
The best penalty taker I’ve ever witnessed. He is the reason I became a villa fan.
He certainly knew how to smash a pen in! I think he was generally underrated outside of Aston Villa. Great player.
He was class from West Brom fan
Every single goal he’s scored is bloody great 👍
The man that goes to work every day
