This is yet another example bikes, like many things in life, are really in the eye of the beholder. Pinkbikes review of this bike released yesterday was quite different. 🧐
Could be that Pink Bike no longer has to shill to get brands to send them stuff to review...a good test of if this channel is giving us legit opinions would be the Rocky Mountain Instinct review...
I was getting the feeling from Pinkbike that they just couldn't think of a positive way to say the Ripmo was a playful trail bike. I think they just wanted it to be a plush, plow through everything enduro sled and it wasn't so they were upset about it. Hahah. 😂
@@havenoutdoors584 the Ripmo is definitely not the plushest bike in that travel category with a float X but also I don’t think Ibis wants it to be that. The Ripmo has been and will always be a playful 29er that can rip!
@@BenZCardiff I don’t think PinkBike did a good job on the review, my opinion is much closer to what Mo said. Actually I have been on several of the bikes that they are reviewing in PinkBike with a completely different opinion.
Great review. I feel the same way, the numbers do not relate to on trail feel. I look at the numbers and it seems I should be on a large but I'm not convinced. Maybe, I will do a factory visit when I am in the market for a new bike.
Good video Mo! I wished you would have been able to try the Ripmo with a Vivid rear shock. It would influence you big time. Rockshox works so well on the Ripmo. Gives insane traction on janky repeated runs but also keeps all the playfulness. You would be impressed. I still wonder how you get all these bikes in the van? Ha...
The fact that this frame can be built up as a longer travel Ripmo or a shorter travel mullet Ripley really sets it apart. As a shorter 5’6” rider that seriously doesn’t see the need for 160mm forks on 90% of my trails. I think I would lean towards the Ripley.
Rocky Mountain did the shared frame deal w the Instinct and Altitude until this year. They redesigned the Altitude to be a full-on enduro ripper now. It was smart to separate the 2 lines for 2025. We shall see how it works out for Ibis. It usually indicates a company is cutting back on R&D when they merge bikes. Spesh did it w the Stumpy 15.
@@petedog9581I see your point. Perhaps it’s a good thing to focus on some standardized frames with different build options for different types of objectives.
Interesting thoughts on the sizing. A couple years back I was riding the Ripmo AF in XL and I am looking at getting the Ripmo V3 in a L because the geo numbers are almost identical to the old XL on the V2. Worried the XL will be too big of a bump though. I am like 6'3" and a 32" inseam.
Thanks for the video! I'm 6'3 as well and have a Large Ripmo on order. Currently, I have an XL Ripley AF, and XL Hightower. Both bikes fit great and the numbers on the Ripmo V3 looked like the Large was the most similar. I used to run an XXL Hightower and it was great at speed, but not that nimble. The reach on the XL Ripmo is like 25mm longer than the XXL Hightower and I couldn't imagine that working! Have you got any sizing experience with the V3 Hightower or Ripley AF, Mo?
I got a nice deal on the v2s frame and just saved 1500€ over the v3.. it can’t be that better for that money. On paper the v2s is everything I’m looking for and coming from a pivot, I’m sure i gonna love this bike
I'm pleasantly surprised how close your notes to the bikes (Instinct and Ripmo) are to PB reviews. Yes, they're more upfront about what they don't like, but the takeaways are still similar. Your want for a larger bike despite similar geometry to other bikes and difficulty to find the right balance point says a lot.
It's a really good bike! As soon as you spend some time on it the balance spot makes a lot of sense, Ibis bikes have always had a very unique ride feel which is what makes them so rad They are different! As for sizing, yeah it's tough, I like big bikes for sure!
Did you feel that the suspension setup took more time than other bikes? I mention this because I have one and it took some trial and error to get it perfect, but once I did it became phenomenal. Also, Pinkbike just released their review and didnt like the bike very much at all. Obviously they're better riders than I am, but I have to wonder if they didnt find their personal sweet spot.
Suspension set up didn't take too long, its more so you need to spend some time on the bike to find the balance spot because its not as intuitive right away. However as soon as you learn how to ride it it's insane and makes so much sense! Can't speak for them but yes you have to spend a bit more time initially to reap a lot of awards long term!
Nice review! I am very curious as to how this compares to the Switchblade and couple other bikes in the review. I am gkad to see comments on the sizing. Initially i was leaning towards the medium at just under 5'10".
Another great review! Thanks for commenting on the sizing. Mo, how long did it take you riding the bike before you realized the size might be a little small? Do you think you could tell in a short 1-2 hour demo ride? I'm your same height (6'2"), and have wondered about the new Ibis sizing.
Brought a V2s in size large frame set here in New Zealand. Am happy with it. Wouldn’t need the swat box and 3mm of extra travel but each to their own. Also run a 170mm 51mm offset Lyrik Ultimate which would make the front end more slack.
I had the same issue with sizing. I was between the small and medium on the Ibis size chart, but the geo numbers on paper made it seem like the small would work best. I regret it, should have went for the medium. Interesting that others are feeling similar
@moandhannahtravel yes, Ibis support helped me out a bunch. I was getting really frustrated, having a lot of neck and back pain at first, but with a 50mm stem and a higher rise bar the bike is feeling really good. I prefer a nimble and poppy bike so I don't mind being on the smaller side. I'm 5'6" so pretty much max on the small.
2023 ripmo (slx) or the occam H20LT and why! Hurry i need to decide! If they were the same price. Overall best bang for the buck and do it all bike. Since ripmo is a coil fork. Vs the 36 fox performance
I'm glad that you make these videos but it just seems like you are yelling constantly. It's hard to listen to. I value your impressions of these bikes but maybe put the mic a little closer so you can talk at a normal volume
Mo, I'm 5 feet 11, ride last Ripley V4 size large with a 20mm setback seat post and 60mm stem to get the reach i like, more of an xc rider. Do you think i might like the Ripmo V2 size XL fit.
Thanks Mo, Great review! Sizing is confusing, i’m 6’ & 32 inseam. my ripleyAF is XL (only bike could find in chaos covid time) with Stem 32mm and my saddle forward, it works good but i feel the bike is big on tech climbs.. if i purely go on reach, makes me wanna go XM size, but from your review I’m afraid might be to small.. where i live they don’t hold ibis bike :( so can’t demo, it’s a special order if want a bike
You would ride a large. Check out the TT length. The steeper seat angles change the fit and the TT length is more informative than reach for matching your previous bike fit.
I'm 6ft and sat on a XM in the shop and found it too small Ordered a large but still waiting for delivery as there's a 4 month waiting list so can't let you know how the fit is atm. You really need to try one on for size to know for sure though.
