This one took me longer than expected to whip up because I was looking for a smaller encounter that is less static, after encountering The Valentine 20 times, Grandma 16 times and being attacked by all sorts of ships at least 100 times I decided to shift my focus to this idea as there's an interesting story there. Hopefully there'll be more to come soon.
" a penitent" used as a noun normally is used to say someone is a non-believer, heathen etc. Someone that needs to repent and follow the religion closer
No worries people. Bobby isn't an orphan. His parents were really on another shuttle. I encountered them walking along the promenade in New Atlantis commercial district.
Bro this all explains who that fucking kid is bc I was walking and someone was like hey thanks again or something and I turn and see some kid and I was able to speak to him and was like who the fuck is this kid 😂 now realizing I just walked pass not giving a shit 😂
17:00 It's funny Chambers threatens to ruin someone's career and make them an "overqualified barista". because later you can find her working in the Terrabrew!! lol
There is a side quest that takes you to the house Va'ruun embassy where you discover that there is a "venom tree" that emits pheromones' that induce hallucinations/ visions, so my guess is they had one of those plants on the station and it gave the scientist foreshadowing of the tragedy and maybe it also called the zealots to it as well.
I'd guess the one weird Varuun zealot hiding on board discovered the hallucinogenic properties of the plant gave him a 'vision' and he called his buddies to grab the samples and research on it for his cult.
Bobby isn't an orphan. I met him and his parents in New Atlantis, his parents being disgusted that Bobby was almost given to foster parents. Also, there are trees in the Var'uun embassy that have clouds of spores around them, possibly the same psychotropic plant being studied on the space station?
@@FizhyBased on another quest line in the game that requires you to enter the House Va'ruun embassy in New Atlantis it's possible the tree has some form of psychological or psychedelic property, though effects on the player seem to be minimal.
Maybe I missed it on my first playthrough but I noticed that by chance on my second playthrough in the commercial district I think. True feel-good story lol.
There is a Venom Tree, I believe, contained within the starstation's labs. If you visit the House Var'uun embassy, you'll notice the similarities between one of the plants on RE-939 and the tree growing throughout the Embassy's interior. Baines probably was not originally a member of House Var'uun, but exposure to the venom tree induced hallucinations and led to a religious awakening. From there he probably contacted the Zealots, The Venom Tree is considered Holy to house Var'uun, so it being an object of study by the UC is a sacrilege big enough to prompt an attack...That said Chambers gross incompetence caused her to ignore brewing issues aboard the station in regards to one of her researchers going off the deep end and she chose to save herself while sacrificing dozens of others, she earned her karmic kick in the arse.
I been by this place a hundred times and never seen those people talking however I was able to find the quest Quest Giver Location - MAST Building > Defense Research Floor > Richard Bosch - He will send you to the station
I remember there is a theory about one of the plants that is being studied is a venon tree, which has a lot of significance with Va'ruurn but maybe even telepathic properties so that would be the thing leading the Va'ruurn extremists to the station.
I was thinking the same thing. The ambassador on new Atlantis refuses to cut back the tree in the building even with it killing him slowly. It's like they are tied to it beyond devotion
I assumed the stations attack was an inside job. Dr Baines is mentioned as throwing the terms "penitent" around and dreamed of being devoured by a great snake. He was also performing experiments to that effect. This seems to hint that he was a follower of the Va'ruun religion. Add to that the Zealot attack coincided with the one week where security was left vulnerable due to a personnel change, also during a time period where evacuation procedures had just been changed and were still unfamiliar to the station's crew. So I'd guess he signaled the zealots when the station was vulnerable.
Probably unrelated, but in addition to being a brand of fancy bottled water in the real world, "Voss" is also a planet in Star Wars: The Old Republic...which is populated by religious zealots who follow leaders gifted with foresight through the Force.
Starstation RE-939 was attacked because it in fact had a Venom Tree (The one with the red vine like leaves aka VP-0184) as mentioned by others this same tree is found in the Va'ruun embassy and is even commented by the ambassador as being from their Home World. How it found itself in a UC research facility is anyone's guess, but that would be the best reason why Zealots would attack it as the Ambassador also implies it has religious significance.
i mean you say she didn't invite them aboard buuut i could totally see space station Karen getting on coms and screaming at some house snakey ships to go away
Certainly strengthens the possibility of the good doctor being a house varuun agent. Especially given that the station has a venom tree in the sample lab.
Anyone notice in the flora department of the station there lies a tree that is also within the Va'ruun embassy ? I am pretty sure this tree is the same one that creates psychedelic effects and visions
I believe Dr. Baines was a Varuun sleeper/infiltrator and had a bad trip on a specimen's pollen/excretions that trigged vivid hallucinations that were rooted in his core beliefs and ideology which he mistook as a sign from the Serpent that action was required as he viewed his coworkers as "Penitents" which to me reinforced his core religiously motivated zealous beliefs (also likely a side effect of the psychotropic agent on his nervous system/brain) and it's very likely he mistook this psychotic episode as an actual message from the Serpent and summoned his compatriots/the unit of House Varuun hardliners who are still preying on space to "purge/purify" the station as he believed the Serpent had called them to action.
23:37 it does not read "left tenant". Lew-tenant :) Oxford- Is it Lootenant or leftenant? The word, logically, is pronounced 'lootenant' in the USA, but in English it is pronounced 'leftenant', possibly derived from luef, the Old French for lieu. - end book- Wait....Butter bars are named for a location you use the restroom in? Now it makes sense.
"Starstation RE-939 Resident Transcription" - the slate in the room with the computer on the top floor (Living) - is not available for me... it's literally not there. The slate holder is empty and I cant find the slate in my inventory... anyone else experience this?
As I on my 3rd run and in my game in like 4 days time i😮found that boy with his mum and dad saying I don't belive we just alot to lose our son because they belive we where daed
No mental gymnastics required, calling them a “penitent” sounds like it can easily be said in the same way & tone as sneering “sinner” at someone. Depending on said tone could make it come across as a threat, especially if the good Dr. was as weird as he was perceived already.
VP-0184 seemed to be a Venom Tree, there’s one growing at the House Va’ruun embassy as well and it was shown at 23:00 into the video. The tree has psychotropic effects and gives people visions of the serpent, as well as control people psychically I’ve seen suggested in some other lore videos.
So, hear me out. What if some of the flora they were researching was the same as what we see in the Varuun embassy? The ambassador for house varuun said that the flora must hve compromised embassy security system. What if it also is able to do that to humans? Thus, varuun zealots came to secure it so the UC can’t figure that out.
I was busy with getting to the lodge and ended up only hearing the conversations in passing. Literally. Unless its listening the Hellen. Shes terrible at her job.
Oh damn, the ever present MBA with a Napoleon complex trying to boss around the people with actual expertise. I have not been to the station, but now I need to actually track down this quest, visit it, and go back to see her as the barista just to laugh at my monitor. Now if only there was a way to give her one book at a time until she collapses and is crushed by the weight of actual science.
I wonder. Does the name Jameson (for the planet) have a connection to Elite at all? As in you, the player, start with a default Commander named Jameson...and subsequent sequels you also start with the same name (alluded to be pilots from the same family line). But not Elite: Dangerous.
All the planets and moons in Alpha Centauri were named after real world space explorers, Gagarin is of course named after Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, Jemison is named after American Astronaut, Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to go into space.
"Religious zeal" is such a trope. Let's see some "social justice warrior zeal". Although, we see that every day IRL, so maybe that's why it's not in games .....🤔
The woman who was... onboarding? the escapees from RE-939 has vitiligo. While pleasingly inclusive, i find it unlikely an effective treatment hasn't been found in the 300 years in the future the game takes place. Yes, sure, it's entirely possible she refused treatment, but that's unlikely for someone who lives and works near the most developed region in the galaxy. In a public service job who has to interact with the public.
I was just about to bring up her vitiligo, too...but you reminded me of something that went around fan circles when Star Trek: The Next Generation was just about to air: people were complaining about Patrick Stewart being bald in the 24th century, and that we should have found a cure for male pattern baldness by then. Gene Roddenberry's response? "By the 24th century, no one would care."
Wow, i would NOT want Helena as my boss, a good manager does not try to instill fear in employees. She can take her S.P.E.C.T.E.R management system and shove it.
I can't believe you like this game. Ive put almost 40 hours in and I find it incredibly boring. The characters stink and it takes wayyyy to long to get skills that allow you to have fun without farming or exploiting. RDR2 is a masterpiece to the point where I don't think anything will ever be nearly as good.
I made the mistake of making an energy weapons build only to find out there are almost no weapons. I restarted and took a long time making a purple/blue Mr Freeze type guy. The first fight, the very first one, is bugged. I cant draw my weapon. After reloading the 1 and only save file for the character, the bug persists. Yesterday I found a fun looking questline involving historic figures and it too was bugged, unable to be completed. All of Starfield feels like a big waste of time. Its not enjoyable enough to fight through the problems.
The va'ruun rifle (which has a mix of physical and particle damage) is amongst the best and most powerful weapon in my opinion, as for the bugs, bethesda will fix them after they get rid of any and all advantages or exploits that players find
