    Thank you for this awesome video! I’m about to do the same process for the first time to a BurgerTime I’m fixing up and it was REALLY helpful to watch someone who, frankly, hasn’t done it 1,000 times as you worked your way through to process. This one will be my reference video when I actually get down to applying my laminate.

      Nice! Glad you found out useful! My advice is to take your time. Plan ahead. Also, I found out the hard way that you shouldn't have paint on the surface that you are applying the adhesive to. It will eat right through it and cause a mess. I mentioned it briefly in the video at 42:20.

      I caught that! That will save me some time too because I was about to do just what you did. I’ll skip painting the perimeter of the cab sides.

    Great that you uploaded a vid mate. I just re laminated a cabinet and it looks fantastic. So much easier than painting and getting it looking perfect.
    Only thing I found is now the 19mm t-moulding doesn't fit. Had to order in some 20.6mm stuff

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  4 года назад

      On mine, the factory t-molding fits perfectly because I used "Vertical Grade" laminate. It's very thin compared to normal thicker laminate. Are you sure you used the correct type? If you're not sure, you probably have the normal thickness which is why the original t-molding doesn't fit properly.

    Great Job! I find that using horizontal grade formica brand is the best even though it is slighly thicker, imperfections in the wood aren't transfered though.

    So people do put multiple ROM boards in one cabinet? I always thought about how that was done. Obviously it’s just a switch, but I’d like to see when you get to the switch instillation to see how that works.

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  4 года назад +1

      Yep. It's a multi PCB switcher. I will explain it once it's installed. You hold both start buttons to switch games.

    After putting miles of this stuff on for a living bitd, you need to worry less about the bubbles and more about the black spray paint you put on there. Ill be surprised if it doesn't let go down the road. With that said you did well for your 1st try!

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I appreciate that. :-) It shouldn't let go though. If you watch later in the video I end up sanding the paint off for the rest of the cabinet, correcting my mistake. ;-)

    I might have missed it, but, can you let me know where you got the laminate from? Everything I have been able to source somewhat locally has a textured surface; almost like an egg shell. Cabinet looking good, interested to see the multiple ROM boards install.

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  4 года назад +1

      Surprisingly, I got it from Amazon for a mere $50 a sheet (x2) and free shipping! That's the cheapest I've found, even locally. It's Formica brand "vertical grade" laminate in Satin Black. Link is in description. :-)

    So what is your opinion on using a trim router instead of a big regular router for laminate and t-molding? I just have a hard time justifying spending more money on a regular router to only do simple tasks.

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  4 года назад +3

      I've had a trim router and hated it. It was noisy where I needed ear protection. It also vibrates more due to the big torque in a small footprint, so (in my opinion) is harder to control.
      Just save up a bit longer for the proper full sized router. I ended up tossing my trim router wishing I had saved the $$ towards the bigger one. You will NOT be disappointed.

    Hi! Great work here. Appreciate this video.
    Question. I have a vs. Castlevania with orange melamine. The melamine is in great shape, but I want it black.
    Do you think I’d have to remove the melamine, or can I laminate over it?
    Thank you.

    • @8-bitBishop
      @8-bitBishop Год назад +1

      Also, Home Depot sells 4x8 sheets of satin black Formica laminate. Same stuff right? I just wanna make sure Inget the best quality.

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  Год назад +1

      Without a doubt you need to remove the old melamine first. Just hit it with a heat gun and use a spackle knife to lift it up from underneath. It may come off in chunks but it's what you need to do.

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  Год назад +1

      Yes, just make sure it's VERTICAL GRADE laminate which is thinner. The thicker stuff won't work since it will look weird and too wide when you put on the t-molding afterwards.

    Thanks for doing this video Del. You did a fantastic job as always! I’m currently on the fence on whether or not to go with laminate for an Atari RoadBlasters cab restore. I think you greatly helped with the decision. 😁👍
    Question: Looks like you went clockwise with the router when you did the coin door, was there any noticeable issue or difference had you went counter-clockwise? From the way it looks it was just fine? Also, what was the name/brand/size of the router bit you used?

    • @delsarcade
      @delsarcade  4 года назад +1

      Yes, that was on purpose. Since the bit spins to the left, you need to move the router in the opposite direction so that it will cut cleaner. So for the outside edge of the cabinet you should move it left to right (counter clock-wise). On the coin door hole, moving left to right along the inside edge inside makes it clock-wise. :-) Make sense?
      The brand is Diablo at home Depot for a flush the router bit. Make sure the bearing is on the outside. thd.co/2Ns3T01
