The mechanisation of forestry began in the 1950s when farm tractors first appeared on harvesting sites. Whereas the first farm tractors replaced just one or two horses, the productivity of the modern forestry tractor is dozens of times that. They all use and produce a lot of data that can enhance work in many ways.
Metsätyö alkoi koneellistua 1950-luvulla, kun maataloustraktorit ilmestyivät savotoille. Siinä missä ensimmäiset maataloustraktorit korvasivat yhden tai kaksi hevosta, nykyaikaisten metsätraktoreiden tuottavuus on monikymmenkertainen.
