God: It was not pure imagination that led Hozier to write this song. Instead, it was Crowley who, after having a few drinks too many, ranted about Aziraphale being oblivious to his love. You see, it was not a stroke of genius, but rather a story that inspired the songwriter to record the details on a pub napkin.
@@christianpoet66 Did you even watch the video? I’m assuming you’re referring to the music video for this song. He and Katie rob a gas station and then hole up in an abandoned house, where the boy had been left. They basically adopt him as one of their own until they get arrested. You can look up the video meaning yourself.
You just may be right, my friend. I literally just wrote above that I felt this song was about the corruption of the divine. Which, no matter how up beat it may sound, is just the feeling I get. This makes me think that Adam, Eve, and the Devil got in a poly relationship after they bit the forbidden fruit and now just chilling as immortals and singing about their past.
In what chain of events in your interpretation does Adam and Eve get to become immortals? JS, wouldn't your scenario lead them to a burning lake of fire and brimstone for all eternity? That's not exactly immortal. Lol
I need to look at the comment section of Hozier songs more often. Yall get the poetry in his writing and the comments and interpretations are giving me life
I love the way he says "wholesome" cause it sounds lowkey like "holdsome" which, is not a real word, but a lovely one nonetheless and I aspire in life to be holdsome
As a poet myself, I often have to remind myself and others that its wrong to judge a writer by their poems. If I were to hang on this song where he's the devil, leaves Eden, finds a woman to love and hangs her man etc - that's not right. That's something I would write. And likely if u combed through my greatest hits you'd find inflammatory language that I employ metaphorically to express anything - an emotion, a simple thought, a wish, a sin, etc Anything. I can't help but love certain songs from hozier, as a musician and writer etc I certainly can tell he's a militant atheist, ardent leftist etc And his bullshit is polar opposite from my beliefs So even though, in this case, we can indeed glean intentional blasphemy as it manifests in this and many other songs, the rule of judging writers on poetry and lyrics written metaphorically and ambiguously still applies ppl. Like I said I am a Christian and I might write such lyrics perhaps describing some sinful lust towards a woman - although mine would indeed reflect shame and/or some inner catharsis... Thought he does end with "there's something retched about this" Idk, just an experienced writers two pennies!
You know what I mean, not judge their writing abilities, but judge their belief structure or if they're a moral person etc. I mean sizing them up as a fellow moral or immoral human being.. That's all. I don't edit comments, cause I'm cool
Dark brood. Some like it black This could be a political statement or you can be a racist that's thinking too deeply. Either way, it applies. You hate what you love. Shessh.... She's deep Currently, drinking my morning coffee Don't forget to quote me

Or is it about a victim of pedophilia grown up and about to reoffend? The official video paints that picture and ads volume to these haunting lyrics.
