    I know I'm a few years too late. But I actually started a toe up sock by discovering your website. Even decided to watch this video to follow along. You both are doing an outstanding job teaching the world how to knit socks.

    Toe-up or cuff-down, whatever the heel construction will it be, the knitting of a heel never stops fascinating me. You are knitting a tube and here comes the heel part - and, bang! Like a magic, the glorious 3D of the heel. Just a pure wonder and joy for me.

    That is my most favourite way to knit socks! As a child I learned a totally different way (starting at the upper side, with heel flap, etc.). But then I read about this method somewhere (in the 1980s or so). Since then I prefer this way (but still try other ways sometimes)

    Thank you guys for making knitting so accessible!!! I’m very much a novice at knitting and socks just seemed like something so intimidating.
    Today, I finished a sock using a combination of your three “Easiest Sock in the World” videos and your online sock pattern.
    I accidentally overshot the size a bit so it’s a bit loose, and made some other errors but it still looks great!!! I’m so happy, I really made a sock!!!
    It was so enjoyable that I’m looking forward to starting on a pair as soon as I get back to the yarn store!

    Could we have a video about casting on the way you do it, please? I find casting on on 1 needle then dividing over 4 needles, then trying not to twist them so difficult when doing a sock starting with cuff. It is my least favourite part and I always dread it. think I will try toe up but I like that you cast on to 4 needles not 1. In this video it is not clear if you need to place the needles a particular way etc. It would be great to be talked through it. Thanks Arne & Carl x

    You were right Arne, it is a cuff rather than a hem. (I am English, by the way)
    We have cuffs around our wrists too (on our jumpers and cardigans)
    I have only heard the word hem used in reference to sewing, not knitting or crochet. I hope that helps.

    Wonderful video. Wonderful socks. And you picked such a beautiful place to sit and knit... You inspired me to do the same. I have not gotten to the point where I feel courageous enough to knit socks yet. Mainly because working with four needles looks difficult and intimidating to me. I don't know if you have done this already, but if you haven't, do you think you could do a special on how to work with four needles? Which one goes on top, which one goes at the bottom, how to prevent stitches from sliding off, how to hold all four at the same time. It all seems so daunting to me...

    • @diannekalk481
      @diannekalk481 4 года назад

      Howling Wind, I have terrible arthritis in both hands and do not find it difficult to knit with four needles. That's because at any one time, you are knitting on only two needles. It's in the way that we observe, and the ACTUAL way we knit. You'd have to do it to realize what I mean. Nothing wrong with magic loop, though.

    Hi, I am getting ready to start my first sock. Here in the US I haven't been able to find a good quality store bought sock like the ones I bought in Germany. I want a sturdy sock to wear with boots in the winter ( with a little bit of crochet edging). I've seen videos using a lighter worsted weight rather than fingering (sock) weight. What weight is good for thick(ish) boot socks and what is the best composition for stretch, durability, and washing?

    I think I missed the point about the heel. You put the red stitches in and continue in the first yarn? Is it like and afterthought heel?

    I’m in the process of knitting my first sock with short circulars. Haven’t reach the heel yet but dpns make me hyperventilate.

    I just received my Regia Sock yarn (kids) and am ready to cast on my first ever pair of socks. But.....I have ordered circular needles in size 2.25 instead of 2.5. I am so eager to start these cute socks but am afraid the yarn might not knit up correctly with the smaller needles. Please advise if possible. Thank you !

      The yarn is designed to knit up well over a number of needle sizes - we are talking about a microscopic difference in the stitch size - don't worry, you will be fine! Enjoy!!
