    Our 2006 RX 400 H has over 307,000 miles on it and it still doing great!
    It’s on the original battery and the battery is still working perfectly.
    The trick for long life is buying a quality vehicle and then maintaining it properly. As for the battery be sure you vacuum out and keep the rear vents clean and the battery will last a long time!

    The hybrid battery on my 2007 RX400h was replaced by the dealer four years ago at 268,000 miles. We're now at 308,000 miles and still going strong. Still drives smooth, everything still works, interior's still nice, transmission's still perfect and engine still uses no oil. Half of me wants to upgrade to a newer one but the other half asks, why?

    Hybrid battery failures do happen at lower mileages, but it's just as rare as an engine failing at lower mileages, and typically only a single battery cell goes bad and not the entire pack. Toyota/Lexus batteries have an excellent lifespan because of how well controlled the charge & discharge cycles are. Some older Honda hybrids have been the exception to this as their design brought the battery to maximum and minimum charge levels too frequently and longevity suffered. Most manufacturers follow (or even license) Toyota's hybrid designs.

    Great video, and great used RX. I agree that proper maintenance is the key, but sadly too many service centers and repair shops make it a goal to rip people off. The fear of getting taken advantage of scares people who can’t afford to be ripped off. I’ve worked around the car business and talked to many people who fear dealerships and service centers more than dentists or the boogeyman! Sad that businesses do that so there aren’t more cars like this RX on the road today.

    My brother in Laws car Honda Accord 1995 had 500,000 Kilometres on the clock when he traded it. He kept it serviced with what the factory manual said at the right time. Key to maintenance free driving is servicing according to manufacturers specifications. Problem is many people don't because they can't be bothered, are ill informed or the servicing is too expensive.

    Hybrid batteries last by years, not by miles. High mileage vehicles usually have freeway miles and the battery is only moderately used when slowing down and speeding up. Low mileage vehicles usually have local miles and the batteries are used extensively in stop-and-go traffic. The batteries in all 12 year old hybrids are similar, regardless of the mileage.

    Secret to a clean car-no food including soda in the car and seat covers for the first 10 years.
    We only allow on road trips water, raw vegetables and crackers that are not greasy in our cars and a lot of wet wipes for little and big fingers, wax the outside annually and wash weekly the outside with water only and wipe down everything inside with the damp towel that you dried the car and change the oil when the maintenance light comes on.
    Our cars never rust and we have a a 19 year old Chev Silverado (original owner) that looks like it is 2 years old.

    I have a 2013 450h with 39,000 miles. Original msrp $57.5k. I bought it in 2015 with 18k miles on it. The original owner ordered it and it must have been the last 13 made because the plate says 7/13/13 for manufacture date. Didn't make it to the USA until September and wasn't titled until December of 13. I am thinking of trading it for a pick up truck (which I drove for 40 years) but I know it's going to last forever. I do synthetic oil change and all of the filters myself, the white parchment leather is as new. It's been (by me) clay barred, polished (Meguiar's Ultimate Polish) and Quick and Slick to finish and maintain mirror shine. The claret mica metallic is beautiful in sunlight. I got stopped in the neighborhood at a speed trap and as the cop was writing out the ticket he wanted me to verify it was a 2013 lol. The only option I I wanted but did not get is the Levinson sound system.

    Milage has nothing to do with the life span of the Hybrid battery. It's the age. You can drive indefinite miles. The average life span is about 10-11 years. The middle cell modules degrade faster than the outer surrounded ones due to heat. It's usually a couple modules that will get so low that it throws the entire pack out balance causing it to fail.

      +Eagle Vision Excellent! Thank you so much for subscribing and for the kind words! And, sadly, the 400h has been sent to the auction. Don't know what it sold for but somebody got a great vehicle!

    Brock if you think this mileage is surprising, how about a 1999 Lexus LS 400 with 500,000 miles? Surprising, huh? Well that's just what Johnson Lexus of Raleigh posted on their Facebook page yesterday, "a 1999 LS 400 in for its 500,000 mile service!" Words cannot explain how good that car looks for it's age and mileage.

      Not unheard of for Towncars and CrownVics to hit that mileage. In the 2000s Lexus and Lincoln were tied for reliability. The Ford 4.6L V8 had no VVTs and could run forever.

      If the engine has a 60/mile warranty and toyota/lexus engine are known for their 500,000+ mileage, then a 100,000 mile warranty on a battery should last even longer.

    • @chinojarjos
      @chinojarjos 6 лет назад +4

      The battery on these kind of cars are most likely going to get 200k plus miles, even if you had to replace the battery or fix the battery cells these cars will still run over 300k miles, making well worth the fix no way to go run on a Lexus/toyota Hybrid. They will always pay off in the long run.

    • @timoklap
      @timoklap 6 лет назад

      well even toyota/lexus normal batterys are good. mine is still original and 11 years old 290k km on clock and its all a DIESEL, so the battery will get more abuse on cold starts. still starts with -20C

    mine's closing in on 200K. Looks almost as good as her's but mine has been on the Dempster Hwy, over Ophir Pass and out to Toroweap, WHILE hauling a paramotor and outboard engine INSIDE it. I love the acceleration, best by far of three different RXs that we've had. Lexus has goofed BIGLY on their NAV interface though and it will prevent me from getting another...unless they fix it.

    I hate salesmen.
    I have a 2007 prius and after about 150K and 8 years of use, the battery pack needs constant cell replacement (and no, I can't afford to replace the whole pack one shot). Those cells just don't last.
    If you tell me this 2007 R400h uses different cells and they are better, then, I might be interested. Otherwise, it is just a salesman talking, hiding all the facts.

    Lexus vehicles in general are bullet proof cars. They run forever. My friend has a 2008 is250 with almost 300K miles and has no problems besides some minor rust on the bottom. He does the regular maintenance and that's how it runs. All cars last long with proper maintenance.....unless it's a Chrysler 😂😂

    Great video. I have a 2008 RX 400h with 172,166 miles. (My first RX 300 was driven for 10 years and 135,000 miles.) LOVE this 400h and the red color looks like new STILL, but finally decided I need and want all the driver assist features of the 2018 generation cars, BUT, I cannot deal with the new Lexus grill. So distressing to see those UGLY "shark" mouths coming at you on the road, but looks matter when buying a $60K vehicle. Anyway, going to lease another luxury car (so longevity/reliablity does not matter) and wait for next RX redesign!
