I assumed the slide was DLC. Good looking pistol. I wish Springfield would start making 2011s.
That's a fact. I wish several companies were making some more affordable 2011's. Wish I had an STI budget, but I don't.
That blueing seems to be more prone to wear and scratching than I recall on Colts and Smiths from "the good old days". The Springfield catalog is growing, though I don't see any 2011-style pistols on the horizon, as the new models seem to be cosmetic re-works of the basic 1911. I hope I'm wrong.
@@joshuagibson2520 have you looked at the Bul Armory SAS2 Tactical Government or Commander in 9mm/45acp? $1350 isn't cheap but much less than a $2k Staccato or $3.5k other 2011.
@@WheeledandWellArmed yeah. I believe I saw Honest Outlaw do a piece on a Bul Armory.
On a side note, I found out there's a RIA model that's 9/22TCM. Pretty damn cool, but I don't think 22TCM will last.
I am addicted to 1911's. I love any government frame. The shop had a Springfield Garrison on Friday, I bought it, lol. Never heard about the Springfield thing, I like them. I own 3 Springfield 1911's. Thanks for showing.
Craig, once again, thanks for watching and commenting. I looked at the Garrison when I was doing some of the range work with the Emissary. So many nice 1911s, so little money. (Sigh.)
I have the New Garrison 1911 too. I look forward to shooting it and testing it out for the channel. I think I like the looks of the Garrison over this 1911, but time will tell. B9USA Sr. 🤠👍🇺🇸
@@BERETTA9mmUSA I agree. I am not fond of two-tone, but when it comes to 1911's, hardly anything gets in the way. Mine seems to hit a little low, but I only put 7 rounds through it @ maybe 3 yards. Sadly, they only put 1x7rd mag with it. Good thing I ha e lots of guns with mags 😀
Another great video rider.I think Springfield makes very good guns.I too am worried about the finish on the gun.
I haven't had any problems with any Springfield, but I agree that the blueing seems to be pretty fragile. As always, thanks for watching.
Love
Your vids man. Got to be honest though I’ve had nothing but issues time and time again with Springfield 1911’s and Sig 1911. On the other hand a touch more money or sometimes preowned you can get a Dan Wesson that’s gonna run like a champ in my opinion
Dan Wesson makes the premier "production" 1911, in my not-always-so-humble opinion. The few Springfields I have had the opportunity to work with have run just fine and my two Sig 1911s have run perfectly. Springfield, like Kimber, is using MIM parts, where Dan Wesson is using machined parts, at least as far as I can tell, which may, or may not, mean longevity issues. Thanks for watching.
I bought my wife a Springfield TRP at $1600 and it’s never missed a beat. Bought a Colt 9mm 1911 and it was a consistent problem child (sold). Last summer bought my wife a Nighthawk 9mm 1911 at $4K and it’s far and away the best 1911 we own. We had a Springfield Ronin .45 Officer and it was a snappy disappointment. I’m thinking we buy the 9mm Emissary or perhaps the carry cut EMP. I’m recoil sensitive from osteoarthritis in hands and wrists, have had bones removed, so serious, and I look for soft shooters (I’ll be down to an EZ before long). I mostly shoot Sig Legions in 9mm
@@marksd5650 I reviewed the Springfield EMP Concealed Carry Contour in part 12 of my Great Affordable 1911 Series. It is a nice gun, but it takes proprietary magazines, not standard 1911 mags.
This 1911 is a bit different for folks that are tired of the more traditional 1911 look. Soooo if that is you, this is your 1911. I am sure they will shoot Great like almost every Springfield Armory 1911 I have fired over the last 10 years.
Best, B9USA Sr. 🤠👍🇺🇸.
It is accurate and reliable, but definitely not for the 1911 purists. Many thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video Rider. Thanks for the mention
Any time. And thanks for the loan of the Springfield.
I follow both you guys and appreciate your work. Cheers.
These are great pistols. Factory custom. Very impressed for the $1139 I paid for mine. Super accurate. Amazing trigger! Never had any issues.
she is a looker!
It has style, though 1911 purists may not agree. Thanks for watching.
The grenade checkering looks really good. Has me curious as to how it would feel in my hand.
It does feel different than normal checkering, but it feels more "grippy".
Picked mine up today, ran 25 quick rounds through it, I'm a happy camper.
25 is a good start. Thanks for watching.
Fine review. Thank you. Mr. 10.8 was very complimentary about the Emissary and he’s a 1911 guy almost exclusively (at least lately). I think I’ll wait for the Emissary Officer in 9mm for carry. I have TRPs and Nighthawks so for me it’s not about just collecting another 1911, but rather finding a great carry 1911. I had the Ronin Officer in .45 and got rid of it. Too hard on my deteriorating 67 year old wrists. But, I may have to buy an EMP to satisfy my curiosity. However, in my mind there is a big difference between a forged steel frame and a forged aluminum alloy frame. I appreciate a 44 ounce gun very much. That’s about how much my 629 weighs.
All my best. Thank you for the review.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I have followed Hilton Yam's 10.8 Performance reviews on the Emissary. He goes into details that no one else does.
I did a review on the EMP Concealed Carry Contour a couple years ago. I believe it was Part 12 of my Great Affordable 1911 Series. Nice gun, but with the narrower grip (front to back), it doesn't take 1911 magazines. Now, the Emissary 9mm in Officer size with a semi-bobtail frame - THAT would be interesting.
@@RidersRange
Thank you. I rediscovered #12 concerning the EMP, and found that I’ve watched it, and will again now. All my best.
Haha, I almost spit a little coffee out, when you said hanging your lunchbox on the rail! That's about right! Don't have much use for them.
Rails aren't my thing, either. Though if I were still in law enforcement, I'd have a light on every firearm, day and night. Thanks for watching.
I commented yesterday, but it disappeared. The grenade texture isn’t my cup of tea, but it’s clearly making someone happy. Thanks for Sharing! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
RUclips sometimes does strange things to comments. The grenade texture will be just one of many turn-offs to 1911 purists.
I got one a while back. I really like it. I like the grip, the sights, and the appearance. It will definitely be one of my carry pistols. They did a nice job. Mine is the 4 inch model. I would have preferred the GI guide rod and a metal trigger, but I can correct those if I don’t get used to them. Otherwise, I think it’s a major winner.
PS: I have found the trigger guard does not fit most of my 1911 holsters.
That squared off trigger guard was popularized by custom builder Armand Swenson back in the '70s, but you are correct that it doesn't fit in most 1911 holsters. Thanks for watching.
Quality review Harley
Thank you, as always, for watching and commenting.
Thanks for the review, I agree not to hate on you 4 the review, yeah they messed up in past, but it is buying an American made gun and that should get more points than some others. Nice 1911.
Jack, thank you for watching and commenting.
Was going to get this but ended up going with the kimber shadow ghost. Both have a two tone look and I just liked the kimber in person when I saw it. Also saved a couple hundred bucks
The price on the Shadow Ghose is certainly better than the Springfield. Thank you for watching.
At 10:00 mark, thumbs up on the engravings !!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT
Thanks for watching.
I just saw one on my local gun shop but it did not come home with me. Perhaps it should have? Thank you very much for another well done and informative video.
It does handle and shoot nice and I like the feel, but I'm not about to rush out and add it to the collection. As always, thank you for watching and commenting.
Rider ,Thanks for the great review of the Springfield Emasary 45 ACP. I was one of the first in my State to receive the Emasary as they were not plentiful on release. It's a nice pistol but a little over done for my taste, however I'm not going to bash it, it has its fans. Personally now days I'm a big fan of the clean and mean style pistols , the 9 mm 1911 and 2011s are my favorites, my next interest will probably be a Dan Wesson TCP 9 as I compared the Staccato C I'm leaning towards the TCP 9. The Emasary is a nice pistol and shoots well. That's my take on the Emasary , I suppose I've been spoiled with Wilson's , Dan's and such. Stay Strong 💪 my friend.
Wayne, as always, thanks for watching and commenting. While I like more traditional 1911 styling, I think of some of the "modern" styling features almost like a George Barris custom work on a classic roadster.
@@RidersRange I see your point exactly.
Excellent review. Personally, I think the grenade thing maybe jumps the shark but, if traction is good enough, I could learn to like it. The trigger guard looks like it might be friendly to gloved hands, an overdue plus on the 1911. Sights are a personal preference. I might choose something else but at least they aren't 3 white dot. Accuracy looks great. A lot of us can't hit the 8" at 50, let alone the 6". Merry Christmas to you and yours Rider!
I didn't mention in the video that that trigger guard shape was originally done by the great Armand Swenson back in the '60s. Swenson was a pioneer of many 1911 features that are now considered standard. I wonder what he would have thought about the "grenade" pattern work?
I love mine! It’s a great gun to shoot.
Informative video thank you for that addicted to 1911's no problems with springfield
Gerald, thank you for watching and commenting.
When this gun first appeared, I found the entire package to be a turn off. Over a few weeks, I began to be won over. In early October, seeing a new example at a LGS, I bought one. So, what do I think? At first, the trigger measure 5lbs, 13oz. After a thorough cleaning and a Wilson Combat hammer spring, it now pulls consistently 3lbs, 10oz. It is heavy, but, I have to say that the added weight makes this gun the softest shooting 1911 I own. Also, my eyes really like the sights. Very easy for me to hit with. I also appreciate the front strap and main spring texturing. In short, for me, it's a winner. I'll absolutely carry this gun when motorcycle riding on lonely mountain roads. Thanks for another 1911 review!
John, thank you for watching and for adding your thoughts.
What holster do you use for your Emissary?
@@blakeashmore306 I bought the one offered by Springfield Armory Store. Made specifically for the Emissary. Available on Springfield's website.
Thank you for the video. I think that is a nice looking firearm.
Thanks for watching.
Great video, but now all I’m thinking about is that Sig Scorpion you showed. 🤤
I guess I'll have to do a "Revisited" with the Scorpion. Thanks for watching and for the idea.
I handled one at the gun store at the range. Felt nice. I'm spoiled by My Bul trigger. 3 pounds or under. I'll never own a 1911 with a heavy trigger ever again.
It's hard to beat the value of the Bul pistols.
Good review, however I ended up deciding against this and spending a little more for a DW TCP 9
Evolution2k6, I think you made a wise choice. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the 1911 gun porn with my Sunday coffee. Really love the look of this Springfield. Can you do a review of their Garrison model in 45 if you get a chance? I've been eyeballing them lately at the lgs hoping I can find any excuse not to buy one (suffering from 1911 addiction, LOL) and get in trouble with the wife. Great review as always!
Dave, thank you for watching and commenting. I know someone local who just bought the Garrison. I'll have to reach out to see if I can borrow it for a review.
Very nice review. Which 1911 model is Ypurs favorite to shoot?
Ahh, so many 1911s - that's like asking me to pick a favorite child. Check out my review on a pair of 1911s by Alpha Foxtrot. Also, the AF 1911 9mm range review goes public on May 1st, and the .45 goes public on May 8. I can't say they are my favorite 1911s, but their accuracy is outstanding and they are fighting for spots at the top of my list. But the S&W E-Series, Sig Scorpion, Bul Armory, Kimber Camp Guard, and several Dan Wessons 1911s are also up there.
@@RidersRange Thank You for nice answer. Last quection, springfield emissary or sig 1911 Scorpions?
Personal opinion, but I prefer the Sig Scorpion, though mine is an older model. The newer Emperor Scorpion is just a little different, though I would expect it would perform the same. I would suggest you try them both, if you have the opportunity.
Good stuff
Thanks for watching.
Plastic trigger ??? You’ve got to be kidding me !!!!!
A number of 1911/2011 pistols come with a polymer trigger face, STI/Staccato being just one. I believe the Springfield Ronin also uses a polymer trigger bow. Polymer trigger face, okay. Trigger bow??? Only time will tell how well a polymer trigger bow will hold up.
Rider, what do you think of the new Springfield garrison. Looks promising!
I haven't shot the Garrison, but I have handled one. It's pretty basic, but that goes along with the price. However, for about the same price, you may be able to get a Bul Armory Government model - more features and possibly better fitment. Just a thought.
I will look into it . Thank you! I’m just getting into the 1911 world.
Well, you must’ve got a cherry. Everybody else check that trigger it was 5 pounds.
That was a T&E gun, so it had been well use by the time I got it. Thanks for watching.
Where are all the affordable 2011's?
Lol!
Armscor/Rock Island is the value leader in 2011-style pistols. You can find them for well under $1K, sometimes as low as $700. Also, the Remington R1 Commander can occasionally be found for around $1K. If there are any other "affordable" 2011-style pistols out there, I'm not aware of them. Maybe my viewers can correct me. And thanks for watching and commenting.
@@RidersRange I wasn't aware that Rock Island made a 2011! Thanks. Gonna check those out right now.
@@RidersRange also if you are considering a Remington R1, Para Ordinance P12 or P14 is the original company before Remington bought them and screwed everything up and went out of business. I personally like the P12 better (G19 in size) than the P10 (Sub compact). But the P14 is the 5" Government size and great too. The P14 is 600 the P12 is 800 and P10 is 1000 roughly.
@@RidersRange I'm pretty happy with the two Bul Armory SAS2 Tactical Commander 45acp and Government in 9mm and both are stainless steel. I'm building a accessible house and have started packing. I got the American Rebel gun safe but pushed off the setup until next week.
@@WheeledandWellArmed thanks for the additional info.
Disassemble is a bitch you cant take the spring tension off before you take the slide off
The bull-barrel guns with full length guide rod are a little more challenging to field strip. Thanks for watching.
@@RidersRange how bad do you think it will scratch in a leather holster? Very shiny slide P.S. love your videos
@@mollyknaur3894 the Emissary that I showed in the review was borrowed from a friend and I don't think it had ever been in a holster, but the bluing was already showing wear around the front of the slide. So, I can only guess that any kind of holster - leather or Kydex - will wear the finish pretty quickly.
@@mollyknaur3894 I’m using a leather holster and I’m constantly scratching the inside finding pieces of leather flying out every time I put the gun out. If you are talking about the way it feels say on your appendix it’s gonna take some getting used to but not so bad
Terrible gun
Jams every 2rounds
Big disappointment
Sorry you are having issues, but thanks for watching.
Save ur money stinks
Jams every 2 rounds
Big disappointment
@Charles Russo, 1911s in general MAY have a tendency to have function issues, though those can often be attributed to a few things: 1) Magazines - some 1911 mags work better than others. If your gun is malfunctioning, try a new Wilson mag. 2) Lubrication - 1911s like to run wet. A dry 1911 is much more likely to malfunction. Lube the rails, barrel at the muzzle, locking lugs and barrel link with a good quality oil. 3) Extractor - sometimes even on new guns, the extractor isn't tuned correctly, but proper tuning is now getting more into the gunsmith arena (1911 gunsmith, not someone who was "trained" on Glocks). 4) Feed ramp - sometimes polishing the feed ramp can cure simple feeding issues. 5) Bullet design - while all guns SHOULD run all ammo types all the time, the simple fact is that many guns, including 1911s, can be somewhat ammo sensitive.
If you have tried a new, quality mag, your gun is properly lubricated an you have tried a variety of ammo and you still have problems, it's time for the gun to go back to Springfield.
