For those of us that got to see The Tubes back in the day, we were gifted to a show like no other. Everything about them live was incredible! Visually as creative as it got, and they sounded absolutely amazing. Total package! And indeed, Fee is one of the all time front men, that unfairly is rarely mentioned as being at the top!! Incredible!!! One of a kind. Thank you!!!!
I really love Fee. Truly great singer, cool performer, very attractive and fun. I didn't think he was so tall!! Btw, I can't stop listening to The Tubes' The Completion Backward Principle and I can't wait to have all their albums. They are marvelous, both in studio and on stage. It's very sad being young and not able to live those golden times that were the 70s and the 80s.
Saw The Tubes about 10 years ago, at the Harley Davidson Love Ride. Fee came out with a tv on his head and we’re phenomenal. During the middle of their set, I noticed 4 guys off to the side of the stage. They were standing, arms crossed, staring intently and after each song, politely clapped. It really struck me how respectful these guys were being, and went to take a picture of this, however, wanted to remember it how I saw it. The four gentlemen were Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, and Taylor Hawkins.
Fee, best front man in any band after the late great Freddie Mercury. I have been lucky enough to see the Tubes 3 times in my life here in the UK and live they are fantastic! Their last album 'Genius of America' is highly under rated, sadly they never play anything from it live.
I worked security at a free summer concert series about 17 years ago or so and The Tubes played. I was really excited because my dad had their albums and I really dug them when I was growing up. I got to meet them and party with them after the show. Fee got absolutely tore down drunk we had to point him in the direction back to the hotel. Had a blast with those guys and that summer.
I was lucky enough to see The Tubes twice on the Outside/Inside tour, and again on the Love Bomb tour. Great shows, they sound fantastic and are one of the best stage shows I have ever seen. Fee is great. Met him once and he was the nicest guy ever. Great upload! If you haven't seen it, look up The Tubes on the old TV show SCTV. The Skit they do with John Candy (RIP) (The Fishin' Musician) is the best!!!
I was fortunate to meet Fee and the band after a performance and I asked him about that appearance on SCTV. Before I could finish my question, he said JOHN CANDY!!! 🙂
@@motorcitymanman7711 I am a kiss fan I've seen kiss many of time but the early days the tubes had a full on stage show with dancers a wall of televisions playing videos way more entertaining than kiss.i like Kiss don't get me wrong tubes are way better musicians as well
The band didn’t look that happy when he said “they’re a great band but they just stand there”. The early Tubes shows were over the top but man were they good.
I remember being a kid and seeing a spread on the Tubes stage act in my dad's Playboy magazine... '75 or '76..? Fee and Re Styles. Hot stuff! Got to see them at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater when "She's a Beauty" was a hit, and saw them in a relatively small club in downtown San Diego. Prarie's cymbals and Fee's head were pretty close to the low ceiling onstage. My buddy chatted with Fee at the bar afterwards. Good times.
In the early '80s The Tubes showed up very late to a gig at the Kabuki nightclub in San Francisco. We were getting a little restive and the promoter very nervous! When The Tubes arrived they made it up to us by buying a round for the entire house - Fee announced that all drinks were on him during the next song, and he played a long one!
I'm a 55 year old Phoenix native. I agree with much of what Fee said. But nowadays, Phoenix is no longer a good place for people with asthma. The air is too dirty now.
A friend of mine went to a Tubes gig in the late 90’s and got Fee to sign a Bill and Teds trading card. I had no idea that was him flanking Clarence Clemmons with Martha Davis.
I luv the TUBES! saw them back in 82 they where wild and entertaining! I was 15 my friend put acid in my mouth and it was so wild!! seeing them entertaining on acid!! omg!!
As a 13 yr old kid in rural England in 1978, a Mayfair ( gentleman’s monthly magazine) piece on the band with its photos showing Fee on stage was the most outrageous thing I’d seen in music. Sure Johnny Rotten & Co on Top of the Pops a year before was cool as but The Tubes were just shocking what with Fees’ boots & tool…! Didn’t see them actually in action till years later doing Wild Women on a C4 show ironically called The Tube. They didn’t disappoint .
Great upload, thanks. I noticed it was mentioned that they did a lot of shows with David Bowie. I wish they had focused a bit more on that. Was that because Bowie liked the Tubes? Would be interesting to know
It seemed to me the tubes stage performance is retrospect, the violence was indicative of what teens were seeing in movies. Making a live performance of what is being seen on screen.
The Tubes were the halftime show at the 1981 NFC Title game at Candlestick Park, the one famous for "The Catch" by 49er Dwight Clark. When the game ended jubilant fans poured out onto the field. Fee was out there too, wearing a super cool Forty-Fucking-Niners ballcap with a little red propeller on top! I'm 6’3” and had to reach way up to spin his propeller! That's a tall lad!
These guys were such a tight, solid talented live band with excellent stage presence. And Fee is a “one of a kind” front man.
Saw him do small club show Scottsdale and he should really do an album of those songs he did of hits of Dean Martin, Sinatra, etc.

See him at my dog park a few times a week and he's so nice and has aged amazingly as he looks the same with much longer hair.
One of the greatest bands to ever play in the 70s and 80s.

That's cool.
Very cool.
I was fresh outta Army, 1974 and saw the Tubes at the Longbranch, Berkeley. Amazing! They are way past due to be inducted into the R&RHOF.

such a charming charismatic man..that fee waybill :-) FEE FOREVER! xo
My thoughts exactly
🙂👍👍👍 Fee forever....
Fee is one of the coolest cats you can meet.

'83 was a super year, def one of Dave's best shows!
Got lucky enough to see the tubes in the 80s at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. A night I'll never forget. A tremendous show
Terrific guest. Never seen him before, but he's a natural.
Got to love the tubes the most entertaining band in the world!!!
...that's an UNDERSTATEMENT.............
As far as entertaining id give that title to KISS

Fair enough......my favorite band as far as musical talent is THE WHO.
@@motorcitymanman7711 I love the Who
Two iconic American originals.
Had the honor to see the Tubes in Detroit at the Masonic, (seventy something(?)) The show was phenomenal, an amazing live show
Best live band ever...
I saw them back in the day at the Arizona State Fair They put on a GREAT SHOW!!!
early 80’s was a lot of fun 👍🏻✌️😎
No regrets in the 80’s!

Very good and funny videos bring a great sense of entertainment!
That's right. An SCTV gig with Eugene Levy and opening for Bowie in Edmonton in front of 70,000 fans. Peak Tubes!!
Holy hell. I had no idea that Fee Waybill was a giant. His hand could palm a bowling ball.
Fee is a character and a half...like Stan Cann meets Roger Daltrey! Totally tubular!

This guy has what they call physicality..
Fee is rather spiritual these days and is very nice, humble and approachable. And of course, funny. ☺️
Love this guy.
They where entertainment par excellent in their time and still
LOL! I like this guy. '83? Could have aired yesterday.
He references the Norfolk, VA show at about the 7:40 mark. I was at that show and met Fee and the boys afterwards and at the hotel the next morning.
Great.... don't suppose you saw any evidence of the 'Burt Reynolds gag' going on hahaha.
@@Itelkner Wish I could remember!
Geez The Tubes go way back with me.... "White Punks On Dope" 1975....
I'm a 55 year old Phoenix native. I agree with much of what Fee said. But nowadays, Phoenix is no longer a good place for people with asthma. The air is too dirty now.
They managed to speak for 10 minutes without a word said about the album
Fee can handle his own with Dave and everyone knows Letterman is tough to pin down in an interview
Legend
A friend of mine went to a Tubes gig in the late 90’s and got Fee to sign a Bill and Teds trading card. I had no idea that was him flanking Clarence Clemmons with Martha Davis.
The One and Only Fee!
Imagine having a night out with Fee...he wouldn't even notice how boring you were......😊
I luv the TUBES! saw them back in 82 they where wild and entertaining! I was 15 my friend put acid in my mouth and it was so wild!! seeing them entertaining on acid!! omg!!
From the nose down, and really his whole face, looks just like Lance Armstrong

Sounds real classy, living in a Chateau. So lonely all the other kids will never know.
Phoenix is "nice if you have asthma". 🤣😂🤣
He's got the.biggesr hands I've ever seen!
Really like this guy.

Yes he requested they be on the tour of Canada and the Northwest.
A& W .....Glendale .....my friend didnt know that Aw Root Beer was a burger joint as well.....mayonnase whats so special about that.
The Burt Reynolds bus sign story. LOL.
lost a part to Michael Keaton in Nightshift.
Awsomeness
Awesome …… !!!!
Very entertaining 😀
He is a large man...
Just a better time
Saw the tubes at Veterans Memorial in Columbus, Ohio in 76
Fee Waybill Collection counter is next door. This is Export Permit Application desk.😅
"The home of cheap applause..." they 👏
Then slyly, "Good luck with those lawsuits" and fade out 😆
Say what you like the broke a lot of ground!
South Carolina really isn’t considered the “Deep South”, that would be Alabama,Mississippi,Louisiana and Florida.
It seemed to me the tubes stage performance is retrospect, the violence was indicative of what teens were seeing in movies. Making a live performance of what is being seen on screen.
One would think Letterman would have had Fee on a regular basis
This guy could be Johnny Manziel's dad!
Singing backwards goes viral by David Feurer
Ron Dante would have loved that one line...
How tall is Fee???
Like, is he 6,3?
Dave is 6'2", and Fee is 7'+
Well, he dates a 50 ft Woman. That should help answer the question.

Tall
Smart ..
Isn't it strange, here Fee looked like Richard Marx does today. :-)
I miss greasy Rodgers burgers
I shook his hang in 2001
I hope you meant "hand". 🤣😂🤣
So what is the Gretzky story?
White Punks on Dope 😁
Why didn’t you chicken wire fence it off fee at least you can grab it on the fly hehe you so crazy
Teenage, and a race for the nightime ...
Stand-up chance for every high and good bye.
