This man is exactly WHY decent people who deserve a break cannot get one! We had a tenant ask us to pay their way across country to escape a very bad domestic situation and let her live Three months before paying. We thought my daughter was nuts for saying yes. It cost $2,000. To get her here and $6,000. In rent for three months. On the 4th month, she handed over $10,000. Four months rent + her fare to get here. She’s a single woman with children and I worried for my daughter helping her. It paid off in many ways and she’s lived in the home 10 years! No Problems. I told my daughter that only happens once in a lifetime!

As soon as I saw her and her demeanour, it was my thought too. No surprise and I would pick she was expecting the knock at any time. Fancy raising your kids like that and I refuse to mention my thoughts about the wee dog.

You check your bank account to see if the money was deposited, only bank check or certified funds, no personal checks. No keys until the money clears the account.
What I don't understand is, why wait ten years before starting eviction.

The Landlord/house owner in the wrecked property is taking 300 from 7 men that's 2100 pounds a month and he's working too and then claiming he has no money 🤣🤣🤣🤣 what an absolute joke!!!! I hope the lovely couple who owned the house where Jemma stayed chased her through the courts for the rent owned, honestly what disgusting behaviour, the women should be ashamed of herself!!!! why would you let someone into a property before they had paid anything. Bottom line fix the law no one who is more than a month behind in rent should be still in a property Payout or get out..........

That should be their choice, though. Of course it wouldn't be MY choice to live under those conditions but it should be their right to choose.

I’m sorry but I find it hard to have much sympathy for either party. The landlords have no clue about the system or human nature. The renters are just scumbags. People are nice until they are not.

If not in place already there should be a national list of tenants and landlords given by court mark of warning as bad/reoffending.

I am blacklisted on the tenancy database because my landlord said half the lightbulbs in the house were blown. Turns out they didn’t flick the power on in the power board. Now I have a black mark because the real estate are too dumb to turn on the power!

In the USA that wouldn’t have happened nope lol…I rent from my sister n brother in law n if I’m short a dollar I get questioned….i have medical issues that my sister knows firsthand…at times she has to help me do the simplest things but mostly I handle myself…but ten years of none payments in more than ridiculous

I'm not going to blame the owners for not acting sooner. It is their decision. They own the property. I am amazed at their patience though. Maybe they didn't really need that money and that's why they could wait so long...

If you waited 10 years to collect any rent, you might as well give him the property because the money you will get for selling the property, after court and other expenses, will be less than what he owes you

I worked for a landlord. We took tenants to court. Tenants claim things wrong. I said give me list what is wrong. I said everything will be take care of and I want all monies owed when I am done never got any money from tenants.

At least the young Asian couple was smart enough to evict the tenant after 4 months. They seemed like nice people and they would have her probably cut some slack if she was having serious financial problems. The older couple have themselves to thank for the massive loss of money, had they gotten rid of the tenant much sooner the house would not be destroyed.

The common theme of this show is that owner's are renting the properties themselves without a licenced property agency.
Wait.. what?! Waiting 10 years to see if the tenant is going to pay rent?! That’s insanity!!! Now, I fully understand that people become seriously ill and cannot work, but 10 YEARS?! Then, to add insult to injury, the tenant has the gall to go and blame the landlord for whatever excuse they can come up with.
The landlord doesn’t escape blame here either! They SHOULD have begun eviction proceedings after the first year. Or, at the very least, provide a payment plan for the tenant.
IF a person is being evicted, they should start packing their possessions as soon as they receive the notice and not wait until the day of.

I'm suspicious of that older couple that had a tenant 11 YEARS past due. I'm suspicious that they entered into a, like, reverse mortgage agreement by hand shake with the guy. That why they let 11 years ago, and he was so stubborn about leaving. They probably had the agreement believing he was not going to be alive in the next 10 years. But here we are.

I would consider eviction proceedings if a renter is 10 days late. And would definitely proceed if they became a month late. I would not wait 10 years! This is insane. I don't care what situation the person is in. I'm not paying for someone to live in my property for free. That is Ludacris!

I don't understand how uk laws allow for corrupt letting agents and Tennants to go so long without paying before an eviction an take place. IN Australia it's all regulated Tennant inspections every 6 months. Uk should look towards Australia to change rules and regulations

hard to have a lot of empathy for the couple who let a guy stay in the house for 10+ years. I did feel bad for the young couple, particularly the wife who gave over the keys to that trifling woman who paid zero dollars to stay in that nice place and had the gall to have an attitude with them. I used to own rentals and would always do reference checks with previous landlords but never the most recent. Unfortunately current or most recent will often give a glowing review because they want to get rid of a bad tenant.

I own a property in the U.K. which I rent to a tenant.
I like to think that I have done due diligence with regard to choosing a reputable letting agent, who chooses my tenants carefully.
Who on earth doesn’t visit their property on a regular basis for site inspection?

I am an NRL but if I lived in the U.K., I would be visiting the property as often as I am legally allowed.

You didn't fake any action for 10 years, which speake volumes. No court will grant you any compensations. You will get aviction warrant and perhaps some amount as a symbolic compensation.
