i'm excited for you to read 2666! that was also my first bolaño, and i'm so glad it was. it's a wild book and challenging in many ways. he's one of my favorite authors, and i think that book is a great entryway into everything else he's written, all of which is much shorter novels haha. also happy birthday!
I read the count of monte cristo last year, and was so surprised that I loved it so much! It was such a fun read. It is rare to read such a tome without boredom. There are definitely some themes that have aged badly.
Belated happy birthday! I've not read 'Infinite Jest' but there's a short story inspired by the end of David Foster Wallace's life in Joyce Carol Oates new short story collection 'Zero-Sum'. 'Boulder' was my favourite from the Int Booker list so I hope you enjoy! So many more new books you've got I want to get to. Great haul! 😊📚
So many interesting books I haven't heard about! Looking forward to hearing you talking about them in the future. I'm also feeling drawn to some classic books like The Count of Monte Cristo lately.
You will love War and Peace. It took me three months and some sections are definite slogs, but they are few and far between. It is mostly a beautiful, interesting and enjoyable read.
It was absolutely refreshing to see a BOOK haul instead of “designer birthday haul, clothing bday haul, etc” - not that there’s anything wrong with those but it’s nice to see something that brings knowledge instead of something you put on your body once or twice.
What a great video! I think I'd be entertained by listening you talk about literally anything 😂 Also, I added so many books to my list of recommendations, I swear we have extremely similar tastes, even if they're random niche things- wholesome sci-fi and non-fiction that integrates the humanities with scientific fields? I eat that up any time❤
Hello my name is Christina and I'm new to your chancel and the boos I'm reading are Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus and Land of a Hundred Wonders by Lesley Kagen The 4th book in the immortals series Dark Flame by Alyson Noel.
Love a book haul! Just wanted to bring to your attention some controversies around Joseph Boyden, the author of The Orenda and how he has maybe misconstrued his Indigenous genealogy in the past. He was criticized in the Canadian press and by Indigenous authors/researchers a few years ago but I haven’t kept up with the discussion just thought I’d point it out. Regardless, if anyone is interested in learning a bit about Indigenous people in Canada I would highly recommend Five Little Indians by Michelle Good, an absolutely heartbreaking account of residential schools and the generational trauma that has ensued.
'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn' is one of my favourites of all time ❤ It's beautiful 🥰
The Count of Monte Cristo is such a fun and well-written classic, I hope you’ll love it!! Thanks for you video!
Little, Big is my favorite book. I've read it seven times, and I discover new details with each re-read.
books as gifts is my favourite thing
Becky Chambers is one of my new favorite authors of the year! Devoured the monk and robot series, and her other works. You will love!
A tree grows in Brooklyn holds a very special place in my heart. I think you'll absolutely love it! 🥰

The Pillars of the Earth.. Now there's a book that I'm very interested to see your opinion on and I'll say no more 😅 Happy Birthday, belatedly ❤

I love how down to earth you and your videos always are. I’m so curious to know how many books you’ve read in your life, even just a rough figure 😮
Hi Jess! Please can you speak about how we can become as knowledgeable about books/authors as you in your series about becoming a reader? Thank you x
Inspiring me to read more! I have a lot to get through 😂
Ah I've been wanting to read 2666 for so long! Can't wait to hear your review

I'm all about The Wake, and anything by him.
ahh this video makes me so happy 🥰
Can you update the all about books list as I would love to binge watch all the book videos in one place.
Jess, hope you had a wonderful birthday. I have had 2666 forever. Started it but didn't get to far. Maybe this is a sign to pick it back up.
i love infinite jest so much, i envy you for being able to read it for the first time.

Cracking Ibiza fun if you have kindle unlimited!
Oh boy, infinite jest makes it's controversial appearance 😅 very curious to see how you get on with that one once you get to it!
📕 🪱 💚
There are so many books around and yet you want to promote russian literature and sponsor russian war by buying their books. Mind-blowing
