I think the Gobert hate is over the top IMO. In some cases it seems personal with certain guys on sports TV. People do realize it's a regular season award not a post season award.
It's kind of tupid really what they are saying. They want Rudy to stop the guards in the pick and roll switch. But tell which center can do that consistently and dont get burned? If they want a perimeter player to win the award -- does that perimeter player provide rim protection>? Or how many shots did that perimeter player alter? The defensive player of the year are usually won by centers. You think Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning and other DPOYs could stop guards in the pick and roll? lol. Maybe only Olajuwon or David Robinson are quick enough to do that but it's still an if.

In 2021, Donovan Mitchell was the best player on the floor in that Clippers Utah series until PG ran into him and Spida got even more injured than he already was. Just saying, before that time, nobody on the Clippers could guard him.
Gobert isn’t an elite perimeter defender. In fact, he’s not a perimeter defender at all. He’s a help defender. Elite guards salivate at the thought of getting Gobert switched on to them. No DPOY is challenged more than Gobert

Rudy should never switch or be in a defense scheme that requires him to. They should have off the floor at that point or run a zone. This is a coaching and strategy problem especially in this dallas series
