  • August 2023, Caravan Salon Düssseldorf. Knaus launches the Yaseo, a lightweight caravan aimed at the EV market but can be towed by any kind of vehicle. As it's an all-electric caravan, you can power it using a regular Electric Hook-up from a camp site, or the vehicle to load socket that's now becoming a feature on the newest generation of EVs. Do bear in mind that you can power ANY caravan from an EV's V2L, as you can see from my video all about it here:

    In this video we take a look around the two berth Knaus Yaseo 340PX and the family-friendly caravan the Knaus Yaseo 500DK.
    We finish off with the trip back to the UK in an EV towing a caravan travelling with DFDS Ferries from Dunkerque to Dover, then a happy reunion with Dougal and Ted :)

    I wish this would be made available to US buyers. I’m in the market for a small travel trailer (caravan) and most everything I’ve seen here in the states doesn’t have the more modern aesthetic that I want.
    Great video, Andrew.

    Love the idea of the folding shower cubicle, great idea to save space with something you may not use that often if you prefer the facilities block.
    I wish more manufacturers would offer electric hob and compressor fridge even at a cost upgrade as retrofitting them yourself to a new van is so expensive. I don't need gas powered fridge and they not as efficient on electric

    Wow Andrew!! This last week I have been watching videos about the Tabbert Pantiga 390 which is more or less the same as the first one you showed in this video!! I was going to ask you if you had seen them in Dusseldorf and would you be reviewing one!! What a concidence?! I've fallen in love with it, I thought, that's the one I want!! There's a dealer not too far from here that I could perhaps see one for sale!! Plus, Richard said he'd consider getting one when he retires which is only 2 years away!! I'm so glad you showed this one which is more or less the exact same layout as the Tabbert! Thank you so much for this video, I knew you'd come through for me, you sweetheart you!! Great to see the boys welcoming you back home, looks like Ted has fitted in and settled down well with Dougal and your mum's dog (Bradley is it?!) Take care, see you in the next one, love and hugs xxx 😘🥰🐶🐕

    In a time where spending €80k or more on a diesel powered leisure vehicle starts to raise a lot of question marks, I honestly believe caravans will have a significant come back. Nice to see someone at Knaus is your follower. Hope next year we have time for longuer chat. Cheers.

      Yes, we tried a 7 metre motorhome for a year, and it was easier to get away for short breaks. However, like many we returned to caravanning with a small, simple yet functional Knaus 400LK double dinette (MTPLM 1300kg) which is easily towed by our BMW 320i.
      I remain bemused by the continued popularity of large, heavy caravans here in the UK with MTPLMs of 1700-2000 kgs. Only diesel powered vehicles can realistically tow such caravans well, yet only 5% of new car sales are for diesels...
      I think motorhomes and camper vans are great if you want to move around every few days especially given the facilities in mainland Europe. If you want to stay in one place for a week or so, then having the car available whether to pop to the shops or access a hiking trailhead really wins out.
      Andrew has some excellent videos on the various pros and cons of caravans, camper vans and motorhomes.

    display vans may get a bit of hammer but yes thats embarrassing for someone considering longevity and durability. The bed solution is innovative though I'd have to say. Oh and a James Bond shower cubicle !!!
    My late mum was such a dog lover - she rehomed rescues, strays and abused dogs all through her adult life - had she had Dougal and Ted for so long you would have gone back to find them either rehomed or she would have been claiming ownership. God I miss her she was such a nice grounded person who made me as understanding as I am.

    ‘Murphy’ bed. It must add a significant amount of weight compared to just lowering the table and re-arranging the cushions. The bed must be a rigid structure and the support for the hinges has to be fairly hefty. If you are trying to save weight why add heft and more strength?

  • @LisaMarli
    @LisaMarli 9 месяцев назад

    Not so sure about them. I love a compressor fridge, but not crazy about induction hobs, and convention microwave ovens take a lot of power.
    Murphy beds are popular here in America, that fold in the middle is not very popular. Makes replacement matresses hard.
    Loved seeing the puppies at the end. Those were some very happy dogs.

    What about the Heating? Electrical? OK on the Campsite. When Energie is included. How about traveling in the cold season? IT takes 1-2KW per Hour to heat the caravan. Thats half of the EV Batterie in one night. All of the new gas less concepts are not made for traveling. It is good to think about caravaning and EVs. But the only solution will by downsizing, less weight and better aerodynamics. Towing a caravan means double energie consumption. Even with my T@b320 and a VW TDI, I'll get up from 5l/100km to 9-10. An EV won't run unter 30KW/100km. Charging every 180km?! Not for Long distances.😢 Thanks for the great introduction. I love your videos.

    Is your car the rwd or awd version ?
    Im going to order the ioniq 5 for towing a 1550kg caravan.
    I wanted the AWD which disables its front motor above 15 mph unless you're going up an incline or accelerating quickly which causes the front motor to reactivate.
    Im worried towing will cause the front motor to be permanently active and create an extremely low range

    • @andrewjditton

      I have the RWD version and no traction issues at all.

  • @kristofsportingdogs3549
    @kristofsportingdogs3549 Месяц назад

    the biggest problem with EV, and why im afraid for buying one. Is the reduced range with a caravan. Now I have a car on CNG (natural gas). I can do around 700km on one tank, with my caravan, that's reduced to 400km. But since refuelling takes just a few minutes, this isn't a big problem. But an EV with 500km range (which are usually already very expansive, would probably only have a range of 300km. So to be safe, you're recharging after every 200-250 km. So stopping for 30 minutes after every 2 hours of driving means a much longer trip. I like these caravans though.

  • @rickihansen
    @rickihansen 9 месяцев назад

    I'm no expert in aerodynamics, but it doesn't look very aero in my eyes. Funny that KNAUS doesn't care more about it, now that it has been developed especially for electric cars🧐

  • @TheUrbanSplash
    @TheUrbanSplash 9 месяцев назад +3

    What electric cars can tow the family one?! A few maybe. These are not ‘caravans for the electric age’. Far too heavy and cumbersome. I also don’t get the V2L. You can do that with any caravan, attached by V2L. Not particularly innovative making to electric only. Keeping the crazy weight.
    Caravans for electric cars need to be ultra light, ultra streamlined, ultra manoeuvrable (when un-hitching en route).

    • @carlos76437
      @carlos76437 9 месяцев назад

      You can use any caravan with v2l, like Andrew did. But these ones are specifically designed to be used with v2l. And that makes them gasfree. In order to progress, one has to take steps. Some steps move forwards, some backwards. These are steps. Time and sales will tell the direction.

    • @Alex-ek5fb

      The Kia EV6 can tow that caravan - up to 1600kg

    • @TheUrbanSplash
      @TheUrbanSplash 9 месяцев назад

      If it did tow to that maximum, what would be the range? 100 miles? It’s just not practical

    • @Alex-ek5fb
      @Alex-ek5fb 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheUrbanSplash Andrew tested that - it is about 125-140 miles with an EV6. So not practical for e.g. travelling from Northern Europe to the south of France. But perfectly acceptable within most countries to the main weekend/week holiday destinations. E.g. both London to Wales (Cardiff) and London to the Peak District are 157 miles so easily achievable with just one stop. I guess people like Andrew Ditton are willing to put up with something that to most others would be an inconvenience. I own a fast charging EV myself and the charging stops are really not that onerous - usually about 18 minutes. On the other hand, having to unhitch the caravan is not much fun, but stops in the Netherlands are often drive-through as shown in the video so no need to unhitch.

  • @johnmackay5288

    Sorry but I thought you were far too lenient with the failings of the small Yaseo, for a £30k+ little caravan not to have a shower is a poor show, must be the only £30k+ caravan without a shower. The power socket above the kitchen hidden in the overhead cupboard is just plain daft..what’s the point? Clever bed design though and the bigger van is very interesting.

  • @andrewjones-productions

    I don’t like the fact the van does not have its own power. It’s ok if like you, you are on your own but when my good lady and I have set up and it’s early evening I usually go out for a takeaway rather than cook which means my wife would be left not being able to make a coffee or watch tv etc: Also there are times she wanted to nip out to get something and I stay at the van. Another issue which came to light on your trip home you were charging your car still hooked up to the van something that is very rare in the UK and this is the problem the infrastructure is just not there for EV’s towing in this country. Our lad has an EV and more than once he has told us of the time he has lost trying to find a charging point that works. (Solo no van I will just add).
