My 2017 with 30,000 miles has a rattle when idling in neutral. The dealer disassembled the transmission and found some of the plastic bushings on the shift fork and rail assembly were broken and/or missing.
As a side note; these transmissions never seem to shift very well.
Great video!
Thanks. They are kind of clunky shifting.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission What do you recommend for fluid?
Mopar OEM is $30 per quart!
Yeah it's expensive, but it is always best to use what it is designed for.
Do you know if the problem was resolved with fixing the input shaft teeth?
They claim the noise was gone.
Does the countershaft bearing in the rear housing press in all the way or just flush with the top of the bore? I measured the bearing to be 1.15mm smaller than the depth of the bore where it sits?
Yes, it does.
Thanks for the reply, so to confirm, the bearing should be pressed in until it bottoms out and will not be flush with the top surface. The bearing face will sit 1.15mm lower?
Yes
I have a m112 716.677 that i need to swap to a 716.668(both nsg370 based) bellhousing to use it behind a inline Mercedes engine. Do you forsee any issues with that? Ive also been contemplating swapping the .668 bellhousing onto the jeep nsg370 to buuod a diesel Mercedes powered 4 wd. Are they similar enogh to pull that off?
I'm no expert on the NSG370. This is the first one I had come in and didn't even get to fix it. We also don't do swaps because there can be all kinds of problems you can run into that don't seem readily apparent. Only thing I can suggest is see if there is a forum where people are doing this. Wish I could have been more help. Thanks for watching.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission ok thanks. The way you handled it and the 2wd vs 4wd id on parts made it seem like you had been in there many times. When you mentioned the vintage 722.1 I figured you were a Mercedes guy too.
@@jasonbirch1182 I wouldn't call myself a Mercedes expert but I have built quite a few automatics and a handful of those were the early units. Hardly any standards.
I have bolted the front case from a c230 to the rest of a Jeep nsg370. It would not go into 5th so I drilled the Mercedes case to fit the diameter of the Jeep shift fork plastic end and I have 50,000 miles no problem.

Do you know if a 3.6 nsg370 will fit a 3.8 engine. I found a 17 nsg370 but not sure if it will fit a 08 wrangler.
It is supposed to. I don't know that for a fact but have read that it does.
The 3.6L has a different bell housing and input shaft to the 3.8L version
