The Great Glen Canoe Trail - Part Three. White Water Rapids. Loch Ness Wild Camp. Broken Canoe.

- In this video, we continue our canoeing adventure along the Great Glen canoe trail in Scotland. Carrying all of our gear for the trip, we paddle along Loch Oich and into the exhilarating white water rapids of the River Oich where we bounce our way down to Fort Augustus and into the enormity of Loch Ness. Discovering a crack in my canoe that threatened to sink the boat, I had to stop and make an emergency repair on the rocks before continuing along the remote southern shore of this massive body of water. Eventually finding a suitable spot to camp for the night, we get things set up, refuel and enjoy some time around the fire, tucking into freshly caught trout caught on the line by Matt.
There are twelve of us on this trip, attempting to raise money for the Alzheimers Society. I would like to thank everybody who has already donated to this essential cause, we have already smashed our target, but with your help we can go further! - I’ll put a link below to the JustGiving page below.
I will also put links to the RUclips channels and Instagram pages of the other guys who took part in this adventure - please go and check out their videos for their takes of the trip!
Drone shots by Simoneardleyart - thanks mate!

THIS PART 3 NEEDS TO GO DOWN IN YOUR HALL OF FAME ONE OF YOUR BEST VLOGS IN LIFE 5 stars the best
All I could think when watching was my spoon is in that boat, hahhaaha. Thank you Simon, I now have her back. Made my donation tonight.
Simon a TOP bloke I the woods
Simon, I gotta' tell you mate.... hatless looks good on you man. I'm a 55yr old barber/photographer who sees the world in many aspects, and you've got that perfect rugged outdoorsman look about you. I say, hats off to you sir......and, more often.
Bloody hell. Just wow 👏. These videos, all of them from this adventure are just amazing. That big by by the bridge where Rick T is shouting out advise is just fantastic. You could not buy that advise. You see that snippet in all the videos. Wow. A mate of mine who is an experienced sea sailor says of this adventure that very few can sail down those waters like that safely. Just bloody fantastic. Wow 👏. Just shows that duct tape is your friend in any outdoor adventure. I cannot say I ever want to go canoeing but wow these accounts of that trip are the best one can view on YT. JUST FANTASTIC.
Well done 👏
Im watching for 4th time and Im amazed at the total positivity you display regarding canoe damage. its a mark of the man ! dealing with adversity . Kudos to you. regards David
I woke early this morning to find your notification on my phone..
Couldn't get up quick enough to play it on the tv.
Really enjoying this lot!
Thanks Simon.
Thankyou Simon. Beautiful video. Best wishes from Australia. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Proper rapids 👍
I was holding my breath when you hit the rock 😳
Glad it was repairable
Another great video! Love the sounds of the white water. So sorry about her booboo but what great promo for the ‘bandaids’! (Haha) Exciting fun, glorious scenery and marvelous mates. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Another cracking film. I think all of us watching felt that crunch on the whitewater section. Glad you were able to rig up a repair. The scenery in this series has been breathtaking. Thanks as always.
A great video Simon. So glad you had the things to repair your boat, like you said tho. Wonderful memories were made and it came out wonderful for All . So glad for you!!
Can't wait for part 4 !! Thank you for sharing this beautiful memory you've made. Best of luck on your new adventures young man. Take Care 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💜🕊💜🕊🕊
Fantastic videos. There is nothing more relaxing than to be on the water.
Love the fish and chips , they are the best in the world . ❤️ Great fun on the river today such a wonderful sport , white water and all . Very entertaining video , thank you for sharing your adventure .
So....I was looking up how to cook meat pastry and came across this chap cooking a pastry in the bush.
Since then I've been watching his vids for 3 days and absolutely entertained, much appreciated Simon.
Another brilliant video Simon. Wicked shot of Rick fishing off the rocks 🎣
I've now watch two youtubers I follow make field repairs on this trip. One to a canoe and one to a fishing rod.
Rick T is da man for sure.
@@danieltaylor5231 I too was wondering how well the fishing rod repair worked out.
Thanks mate! It was such a stunning evening - that light made for some lovely shots 😁
Bummer about your Canoe.. Will you be filming a how to Hull Repair Video?
👋👋👋Simon, Great vid!! what a way to add character to the canoe amazing memories to your vid history and chance of a lifetime to paddle waters the most of us will only see through you 🙏 making that statement no matter what we go through in life there's ways to keep going"Keep paddling" Brother 👋
Thanks mate! It’ll bring back fond memories every time I see the repair 😁
Absolutely gorgeous scenery, Simon! Thank you for taking us along.
Simon, a bloke in the Workshop! A video on repairing your awesome craft, please. Love the series so far; safe and enjoyable travels for all.
Another fantastic video, Simon! Thanks for taking us along. Can't wait for the next one!
Ah...you are so fortunate to be with such wonderful friends! Makes all the difference. ATB!
Brilliant sir. I am really enjoying this series. A good trip with good friends and beautiful scenery is the best way to spend one's time.
Brilliant video, thanks for sharing your adventures. You, and your mates are making the journey that every outdoorsman dreams of :-) :-) Have admired your canoe for so long, that seeing the hull damaged caused me a bit of pain :-) It is truly a work of art.
Awesome canoeing and landscapes. Your sail wasn't pulling you, Nessie was pushing you... Hahahaha.
Sam from Quincy, Massachusetts N. E. USA
Amazing buddy .. awesome repair .. well done that white water was scary.. fantastic vids .. all the best cheers Chris & Sam
What can I say, I'm gutted about the boat Simon but hats off to you, you took it like a pro, no moaning just got on with it.
The rapid section of this video was emmense mate, the speed which you hit them was class pal. Looking forward to the 4th episode next week matey.
What a beautiful Trip! Simon I’d say you outdone yourself. About halfway through this video I got worried about the canoe 🛶 making it back. Your resourceful skills remedy that one. Once again the Loc Ness is stunning. Nice video can’t wait for part 4 carry on Mates! 🚣♂️
'All's Swell that ends Swell' as far as the canoe goes. You displayed the proper 'cool head' and managed the situation! I have been enjoying watching a flotilla of canoes and canoeists work together on a cruise. This sort of adventure is seldom seen on RUclips Bushcrafting. And I always like to listen to the Mini Vandals' LAUGH AND CRY. I found the tune through your channel and have saved it to replay whenever...
Cheers James! 😁
Just beautiful. Love your positive attitude with a broken boat and saying it was worth it :-) thanks for sharing and keeping up the good spirits to film your repair. At that point I would have put the camera down and would had started cursing. Can’t wait to watch part four.
fierce beauty captured once again; i'm sure you already have your boat fixed better than new. Thanks Simon. Stay well.
That is some the best film I have ever seen of Loch Ness. You did an awesome job filming it and it what a great cause to do this adventure. My hat is off to all of you adventurers.
Honestly you’re just an amazing team player. You show everybody going out there it’s not just about you you you and it’s just amazing the whole time I was watching I was waiting for Nestlé to come out LOL
Man, what a bummer! Great trip but cracking up the most beautiful canoe I've ever seen! Thanks for the great video of a canoe trip, but, ouchy cabouchy! Take care of that boat. Most guys will never have one that nice, including me.
You're really doing a good job of making my back garden look beautiful. 🥃👍
Absolutely superb! What a story to tell about springing a leak in the boat on Loch Ness -- I would have struggled to stay so calm. Will now be ordering that tape....
I really enjoyed this instalment of your journey. Sorry your boat took damage but you obviously managed to keep the ingress of water at bay. Thank you for the shot of your camp spot at Loch Oich as you left. It’s good for folks to see your ethical and responsible approach to immersing yourselves in the wild, even as a large group. The river section looked fantastic! Your films are always an inspiration Simon. Best wishes.
Thank you Nick!
Hello Simon,
such a great trip. Scotland is such an amazing country.
And i can feel the crack in your nice canoe.
Regards from Germany.
Good camera shots Simon . Man what a ride in the water, bet that was fun. It’s nice to get out with friends and go on trips like that. Thanks for the grate video, can’t wait for part 4 and watch out for Nessie !!! Cheers.

Well, Simon, you said it, obviously by the look on your face, you loved it there. I know you will put your pride and joy in the shop when you get home for proper care and treatment. Looks like your quick repairs should get you home. Home, even after a wonderful time on a supreme adventure, stepping into home, is my refuge, my place of security, comfort and much love. I wish it could be so for everyone. Thanks for taking us along. Thanks for the great videography. Thanks for your support of Alzheimer’s treatment. Texas
"don't worry, I WILL catch up, I've got a sail" 😂 😂 😂
Thanks for taking us along, rich memories for life right there!
I just left a comment but I ran out of room anyways Simon the bloke you kick ass we love you here in Northern California peace and God bless Simon I will never stop watching your videos
Thanks Simon for taking us along. Shame about the canoe but just a battle scar that will bring back memories and it not as if you haven't the skills to fix it. I can predict a repair video coming....This is arguably the best video I've watch, loved it......
Thank you Andrew! Yes, I think a repair video might be on the cards! 😁
Great video Simon! Love to see how much you all enjoyed this amazing trip. Loch Ness!! Are you kidding? Cheers.
Brilliant series of videos Simon. Bet you were more gutted about your baby than you let on but one thing is for sure, there's no-one better to repair it than the bloke who built her. Looking forward to more.
Great film Simon, captured everything we went through , the adventure, the team spirit and camaraderie that comes with a joint adventure . Every time I watch one of our films I cant believe how lucky we were and how the weather gods were looking down on us. A little bit of rain and dark skies, blue skies for most of it and perfect temperatures with that glorious tail wind that pushed us along and kept the midges down for the best part of it 😃. We were lucky and we made the most of that luck 😃. Was a great trip 👍
Atb Rick n Jack and Billydog
It was all in the hands of the gods mate and they shone down on us right from that rainbow pal

thanks for bringing me along on your adventure, stunning! 🌅
someone has to get SImon fishing,🎣 its almost a crime he's missing out on the most relaxing part of the journey.
Brilliant Videos! Very funny to see someone fixing his canoe in scotland with tape and suddenly realizing it's made in my neighbourhood! 😳
Wish you all the best and a sucessfull repair after the journey! 🤗
Finally my favourite there's a new video on my favourite bushcraft channel, one I'd like to accompany you on one of your outings, as always love your videos.Keep'em coming sir!!
Hi, every time I see the canoe I can't but admire it, the workmanship that's gone into it is a true mark of a craftsmanship every time I hear the canoe bottom out or hear it being dragged I think of the damage being done to the Hull and when I heard and saw you hit that rock, I cringed as if the boat was my own during the video you're canoe stands out like a sore thumb because it's the nicest one there. Anyhow l look forward to the next installment of you're journey see you soon.
First of all; thanks for sharing! What an epic journey it must've been?! The scenery is absolutely stunning.. Looks like your canoe has got a fair bit of beating, hope you'll get her fixed and back to shape. Waiting patiently for part 4. Cheers.
Simon, such a shame about your baby. I'm sure you'll fix it. Loch Ness is not to be taken for granted, having only had a short cruise on a Nessy sight seeing boat, the view from a canoe is so very different, it looks bigger than ever. Another brilliant video. Thanks for sharing.
Oh your poor baby ..cracked and banged up.. I feel a "Repair video " coming up next !! Great footage !! Keep up the good work Simon !
Dear Simon ..please tell us outdoor people your tape used to repair your canoo in the footage..The clear one I mean . The duck tape ( black seemed to save you to get ashore ) but then ...the repair !!
Heartbreaking to see you hole your pride and joy but on the other hand it made for compelling viewing! Glad it appears repairable.
I legit thought it was Tuesday today and was surprised to see a new video! Always a good day when Simon posts!
You can't beat Scotland when the sun is shining. It's wonderful. I would recommend the Isle of Arran.
Excellent coverage of you shooting the rapids. Great job as always on your video production as a whole.
Another lovely video full of gorgeous scenery and that sound of the water lapping constantly is brilliant. I always appreciate your videos and seeing all the sights you show us all. It's a bummer the canoe got damaged but I reckon it would have been worth it for the joy you got out of doing the rapids. Glad it can be fixed. Take care.
Oh wow, those rapid sections really bounce you about! Your heart must have sank when you found the damage to the canoe. So glad you managed continue with the trip and I'm looking forward with much excitement to next episode 😁👏
Simon.. been watching you from the start of your channel, that was probably the best upload yet 👍
Oh yes, superb. What an amazing adventure in such an iconic location. Thankyou for sharing and making us feel as though we were there with you. Trying to watch it in sequence but not always successful. Great work.
A Great Video, They all Escaped the Loch Ness MONSTER.
Except When You Sailed Over it & Broke Your Yacht.
Mate I felt for you when you exclaimed “ohh my baby!’’
Just Great Simon, thanks for sharing👍👍🏴🏴
I cringed when I heard the rock in the Rapids. Great vid, as always
How much fun! I am not a great canoeist. Pity about the boat, but better that than you. And as you said, it can be repaired. Thank you from the bottom of our lockdown. Your videos are helping me stay sane at week 10 of lockdown in Sydney, Australia.
Great film again, and the rapids looked awesome. Hope the canoe is OK Simon, she is such a lovely craft.
Love* Love* Loved this* What a treat* Thank you Simon :-) *
I can see that paddle holding up good. Great video you making two paddles
Thanks for the video Simon. It's a great escape for many of us :)
Nice one simon, wow what an epic adventure filled day that was...worrying when you see water seeping in to the canoe. glad you got a temp fix on her. Beautiful scenery 👍🐱🐉
Absolutely the best video yet! The scenery, sound of the paddle, waves licking into the shore and Doing it All with Great Minded People Along. Thank You Simon And Friends!
Fantastic video again Simon pity about the boat but you will get it sorted mate atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Great video. Brought back great memories of rafting down the Baron River in Australia. Looks amazing simon👏

Fantastic adventure. Glad your broken boat is not stopping you.
What a great adventure
Awsome filming it all thanks 😊
Can't wait for next one
Am sure Mike fae TA outdoors just stuck video on watching yours first lol
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🙂🤞✌
Simon, A PREPARED Bloke on the water! Seems you were sorted for almost any contingency. Are you certain that was a rock & not a hungry Nessie? Thank goodness you were able to patch your boat & she didn't join the rank of wrecks. What a day! Another great video of adventures & friends in beautiful places.
So fun to watch as always! Cheers from Sweden, the land of O'boy
Thank you for taking us on your adventure Simon. I hope the fish and chips tasted better than they looked.
😂😂😂 The fish was actually haggis, but I was a bit disappointed with the chip portion size!
Good job on your first rapids! What a great trip. 👍😎🇨🇦🌲🚣♂️
Sweet! Lovely touch at start leaving no trace and a pile of wood for the next group! Thanks for the info today for the irish kayakers potential 2022 trip!
Hi Simon. You inspired me to get my own canoe. I can't wait for it to arrive. Love all the camping equipment videos. So excited for my first trip!
Very good Video! Worth the watch for sure . Thanks Simon .👍
Simon great video. The editing and shots at the end were brilliant!
Great Video Simon, sorry the the canoe took a bit of a bashing, but hey, what a place to gain a battle scar. and finally, the hat came off hahaahahahaha,
Some really great scenic shots, , the rapid runs were exciting probably the best of all the videos Ive seen from those taking part. almost felt I was in the canoe with you.
I cant wait to get back to the UK and enjoy the wilds of Scotland again.
All this enjoyment ha ha great fun, thanks for sharing it with us
I knew I heard a scraping back there on the white water rafting. Oh that sucks. But that Duck Tape is the wonder invention it’ll hold!
Never have thought canoeing as something exciting until I saw your videos. Thrilling adventure, superb storytelling and docu series.
As we get old and abused we do start to form a few cracks from time to time. I quess it is all about how we repair them... good to see you are keeping up with yours.☺
Awesome video Simon, those rapids looked fun! I felt that crack though! 😳
Making me pine for my mother country Simon. Can't wait 'till the next one. I'll also be expecting a "how to repair your home built cedar strip canoe" in a few weeks time. :-)
I really like your videos, long-lasting interaction registration😍💖
brilliant video, felt your pain when you realized you holed your boat, know that feeling far to well, first time on white water and in a wooden boat very brave indeed. was dying to give you pointers but resisted, nicely handled both on that there grade two and your open water skills are flawless, nice quick repair settles the mind for the journey, an a mental note to always, always carry repair kits.
another great ep Simon. keep em coming. loving every minute
Simon your videos are the best....thank you. A brilliant trip indeed.
Great stuff Simon! Black pudding! food of real men lol , i love it but i am Scottish! Beautiful camera work!
Glad you were able to repair your boat. So frustrating that it got damaged.
The whole repair I was thinking flex seal tape would fix it for the rest of the trip. That stuff is incredible 🙂
