2:09 I loved that you called it the “Ten Commandments” font, this one I recognize all the time and it’s actually near and dear to my heart... a little backstory: I worked as the designer at a custom engraving/trophy shop and I can attest to the Flareserif being a very bold, classical looking choice (and surprisingly versatile) it was one I sort of “inherited” from old jobs/returning customers and at first I tried to go with a more modern option and really pushed against using it (I thought it looked dated initially) but after awhile, in its own right, wore on me until became my one of my “go-tos” when a customer wanted a title plate (but didn’t know what typeface they wanted) Needless to say... it’s on a lot of trophies floating around out there (you’ll probably notice it a ton now! That’s how it seems to go in the world of design! Lol)

It seems you guys aren't the biggest fans of minimalist designs but I just think the dune forming almost an eclipse, or black hole is just gorgeous. I'm split on the square grid on the book cover though I was hoping you'd cover this after talking about the newest movie DUNCs... I agree it works better here - I think removing one of the inner lines to define the middle horizontal in E would weaken it. One of those intentional choices!

Hard to believe there was no mention of the Gerry Grace book covers. I think they were on paperbacks in the 1980s. It looks like the third book in the line-up of four you show for 90s releases (at 20:09) uses a bit of the Gerry Grace art. They had huge title text in metallic print, and the front and back artwork of the set all lined up into a single piece. These were the editions that I used to see in every bookshop as a kid, and got me interested in reading the book.

I love everything you guys said , so interesting to hear what you guys have to say about this. One thing I’ll add for the very start, the Dune 2021 logo, as well as Dune: Part 2’s logo, you said have that ‘planet’ because it was a necessity so it doesn’t say ‘Dunc’. Which is true, the logo absolutely should have the correct spelling. But when you think about the fact that ‘planet’ is Arrakis, A.K.A Dune, then it actually fits even better. Especially when you know the story of the first Dune books, where the story is almost entirely centred around this one planet, being Dune. So as someone who is a diehard fan of Dune, movies and books, it fits perfectly. Literally perfectly.

I agree the Dune Pt.1 post feels cold, but I took it as they were going for a "progression through the series look" so this movie has more color elements from Paul's home world with all the water, and pt.2 would contrast that with being all orange and yellow ( I think that would be a great way for convenience so your not always reaching for the wrong one on the self or surfing through streaming services because they each have a distinct look) - great vid btw, great commentary

RUclips has diluted the talent pool drastically, My salary (sans equity compensation - millions ) is 250k a year, but you both probably make more than I do. I can run circles around the both of you in writing, design, and traditional art. Easily. Any style, any theme.
