It's interesting to see that you found the low angle a little unbalanced, I found that too and it was only when I got the tote and knob kit and started using it more as a ~#2-3 bench plane that I found the width and balance felt right (basically a mini smoothing plane, which it excells at). I like my Lie Nielson 102 (and 101) better as a general purpose block plane for running along edges and generally for detail work. I find these larger block planes to be a sort of no-mans land, with the exception of my Lie Neilson 60 1/2 rabbet which is incredible useful when I need to plane up to an edge. Anyway, merry Christmas Jamie!

Very interesting comparison between these two. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into producing these videos. I have the low angle Veritas with the PMV iron.
One suggestion though ... why not demonstrate/test them on end grain ... that truly is one of the best features of a block plane... and while it is very subjective, it would have been helpful to have done some edge chamfering as well ... to see how they felt, etc.

I had the DX60 and changed it for the LA one. The style is great but as you mentioned, it is not balanced and did not feel good in my hand. I miss the enclosed toe, nice look and good protection against bumps. I love the transformer feature on the LA. Love the front knob. I tried the tote, but I feel that it makes it more like a miniature smoother so I tried the rear button instead and that helps to push forward while keeping my arm low.
I love the 3 dots on the side of of yours. Mine has a concave shape like the DX.
Did Veritas changed from the 3 dots to the concave or the other way around?
Must have a better grip with the 3 dots.
Tell me, since you have both styles. What do you prefer as a grip? Concave or 3 dots?

Mine is old lol they have the convex indent now but I prefer the 3 dots over the convex. Because they are perfect for keeping your hands ergonomically spaced in use if you know what I mean lol if you keep an eye on ebay you will see some up for grabs with the dots. :)

I have the DX60 and I use it on every project. It's a low angle block so cleans up end grain with ease. The perfect 90 deg sides make it a great shooting plane for small pieces. I also use it as small smoothing plane.
Veritas also makes a Nickel plated version of the DX (D as in ductile steel) called the NX (N as in Nickel) - yeah their marketing people earning their coin that day.
