    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 4 года назад

      Wow 100? I could never. I get burdened by overchoice easily, which is why I own just 3 synths and a drum machine (Microfreak, Pro 3, Summit). I am planning on buying the new OpSix and another Grandmother next year, though.

    • @rixcom7621
      @rixcom7621 4 года назад

      @@HotStrange Yes, the burden of getting old and growing up in the 70-80's when the original super synths were invented. Listening to those sounds for over 40 decades you get a bit addicted. Aside from the fact I'm an EE, it is definitely a toxic mix! LOL Probably more expensive than a nasty substance habit too...HaHa. I just bought some cameras and will be posting some videos after I work out the bugs. Take care! Rix!

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 4 года назад

      @@rixcom7621 I’d be interested in seeing some demos of your gear! I personally don’t work well with a huge setup like that so I keep mine limited to 4-5 hardware synths and let software do the rest. Would still like to get my hands on a few more classics just for fun though.

    • @rixcom7621
      @rixcom7621 4 года назад

      @@HotStrange You can basically get most vintage sounds out of any well made digital/hybrid synth. I actually started in the 70's building my own synths with Radio Shack parts when they sold discrete components. I've been a musician since 2 years old and started lessons on drums a few years after that. I like different sounds and became accustomed to the sound pallets of the older synths (Oberheim, Moog, Roland, Arps, etc) They have a fundamental characteristic being most of the analog components such as capacitors, had toxic chemicals as dielectrics and are no longer manufacturable per regulations.
      In other words, they have a more unique sound than newer analog synths. Since most of my equipment was stolen over 20 years ago, I've been trying to replace those sounds with newer synths without the worry of buying an original train wreck. I took and take care of all my instruments (guitars, drums, basses and of course all the keyboards). I ended up with so many buying, trading, repairing and playing them. Since I started rebuilding the empire, I have sold more synths than I presently own due to dissatisfaction either in sound or quality. I have very few digital synths ASM, Dexibell, Integra 7, and one Komplete A61 virtual controller. The rest are analog with JD-XA as a hybrid exception. Anyway, all these analog synths have a different personalities.
      I have that pallet for that particular sound in the vintage CEM chips that are supposed to be dead on the same in this new Prophet 10 which I am still waiting for. I can get close to the sound with me OB6 and P6. the Moog One 16V was a bit of a disappointment but that has it's own lure.
      When and if Tom Oberheim makes a revised version of the OBXa, my search will continue for that sound. It's similar to that old war between Vinyl and Digital music. I have both vinyl and MP3/CD music, Vinyl has more of a punch because you are actually using a magnetic cartridge and a fully analog signal path if you are using vintage amplification. Enough for that rant and looking forward to uploading some one man band videos! Cheers! Rix:)

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 4 года назад

      @@rixcom7621 if a new Oberheim synth does indeed happen, it would be very tempting for me. I’ve owned probably 65+ synths over the last 10-12 years, from all different eras and have enjoyed them all, and have had setups where I owned 15 synths at once with various other drum machines and samplers, but I just work best with a limited setup where I can have everything within an arms reach. Most of my music is recorded live and focuses much more on things happening in the moment so having everything close is pivotal to my workflow. Right now I have a Sequential Pro3, Novation Summit, Microfreak, Moog Grandmother, and soon the Korg OpSix. The iPad and plugins handle everything else, and honestly this is the most inspired I’ve ever been. 5 versatile, great sounding synths is all I really need 😁
      Definitely agree about vinyl. Most of my listening is through streaming just because I listen to so much music, it wouldn’t be possible to own it all on vinyl, but it does sound better and I try to collect all my favorites on record. I’ll always have a soft spot for classic analog synths also, but it’s just detrimental to my workflow to own all of those. Maybe some day I’ll invest in a couple of classics again, but time will tell.

    I was listening (on my yamaha monitors of course) whilst working at home and at 1:40 when that gorgeous modulated patch crept in my ears stood up! I immediately harkened back to "Blake's 7". Marvelous sound from the OB-6. Thanks for sharing Matt. Were they all presets you were demonstrating or patches you created? (Because if I buy an OB-6 it will be for THAT sound :) )
    Here's the Blake's 7 (popular UK Sci-Fi show) intro with the great sounding intro.

    Do you find the OB-6 / Pro 6 lacking modulation options? That Low Frequencer Expander product looks interesting giving it a few more LFOs and an envelope.

      They are fairly basic but you can get a lot of sounds out of them still

      The raw tone makes up for it.

    *Sounding really good Matt, but this is not helping my life long desire to own an OB-family synth* ... maybe (when it finally arrives) the Behringer UB-Xa will satisfy my itch; if not I'll just have to give my son the bad news that his Uni fund "accidently" got spent on an OBXa.... I mean, you only live once right!! 😎 Best Regards, Axel.
    p.s. Still looking forward to hearing the new album - do you know roughly when the release date will be ?

    Matt, you considered polychaining another OB-6 at a later stage or you okay with 6 voices?
