You sir make me regret trading my OB-6 for a Prophet 12. While i love the classic Oberheim sound to death, the OB-6 could not satisfy me enough. But your sounds prove me way wrong!

long time ago i got an oberheim matrix 6 ,i sold it for an ensoniq esq1 , it was for my job ,just for the 8 tracks sequencer ,and i have sold my oberheim dx drum machine to replace it for a linn drum , i really could not aford to keep all this stuff ,but for sure sometimes i have regreted to trade some of my synths .it is the same way with some girls ....

Wow 100? I could never. I get burdened by overchoice easily, which is why I own just 3 synths and a drum machine (Microfreak, Pro 3, Summit). I am planning on buying the new OpSix and another Grandmother next year, though.
@@HotStrange Yes, the burden of getting old and growing up in the 70-80's when the original super synths were invented. Listening to those sounds for over 40 decades you get a bit addicted. Aside from the fact I'm an EE, it is definitely a toxic mix! LOL Probably more expensive than a nasty substance habit too...HaHa. I just bought some cameras and will be posting some videos after I work out the bugs. Take care! Rix!

@@HotStrange You can basically get most vintage sounds out of any well made digital/hybrid synth. I actually started in the 70's building my own synths with Radio Shack parts when they sold discrete components. I've been a musician since 2 years old and started lessons on drums a few years after that. I like different sounds and became accustomed to the sound pallets of the older synths (Oberheim, Moog, Roland, Arps, etc) They have a fundamental characteristic being most of the analog components such as capacitors, had toxic chemicals as dielectrics and are no longer manufacturable per regulations. In other words, they have a more unique sound than newer analog synths. Since most of my equipment was stolen over 20 years ago, I've been trying to replace those sounds with newer synths without the worry of buying an original train wreck. I took and take care of all my instruments (guitars, drums, basses and of course all the keyboards). I ended up with so many buying, trading, repairing and playing them. Since I started rebuilding the empire, I have sold more synths than I presently own due to dissatisfaction either in sound or quality. I have very few digital synths ASM, Dexibell, Integra 7, and one Komplete A61 virtual controller. The rest are analog with JD-XA as a hybrid exception. Anyway, all these analog synths have a different personalities. I have that pallet for that particular sound in the vintage CEM chips that are supposed to be dead on the same in this new Prophet 10 which I am still waiting for. I can get close to the sound with me OB6 and P6. the Moog One 16V was a bit of a disappointment but that has it's own lure. When and if Tom Oberheim makes a revised version of the OBXa, my search will continue for that sound. It's similar to that old war between Vinyl and Digital music. I have both vinyl and MP3/CD music, Vinyl has more of a punch because you are actually using a magnetic cartridge and a fully analog signal path if you are using vintage amplification. @@rixcom7621 if a new Oberheim synth does indeed happen, it would be very tempting for me. I’ve owned probably 65+ synths over the last 10-12 years, from all different eras and have enjoyed them all, and have had setups where I owned 15 synths at once with various other drum machines and samplers, but I just work best with a limited setup where I can have everything within an arms reach. Most of my music is recorded live and focuses much more on things happening in the moment so having everything close is pivotal to my workflow. Right now I have a Sequential Pro3, Novation Summit, Microfreak, Moog Grandmother, and soon the Korg OpSix. The iPad and plugins handle everything else, and honestly this is the most inspired I’ve ever been. 5 versatile, great sounding synths is all I really need 😁 Definitely agree about vinyl. Most of my listening is through streaming just because I listen to so much music, it wouldn’t be possible to own it all on vinyl, but it does sound better and I try to collect all my favorites on record. I’ll always have a soft spot for classic analog synths also, but it’s just detrimental to my workflow to own all of those. Maybe some day I’ll invest in a couple of classics again, but time will tell.
Thankfully I am still working from home in these COVID19 times (I feel sorry for those impacted either health, family or financially) because now I have to buy am OB6. Sonicstates review when it came out had me wanting one, but now I think this needs to be my analog poly. (I have the matrixbrute for mono as I love the dual filters, osc shaping tools and mod matrix)

Wow!! You have the P6 sounding like the OBXa!! I've gotten the OB6 to sound like the OBXa, guess I didn't work hard enough on the P6. I actually sold the P6 and bought it again because I didn't give it a chance. Then the OB6 came out. Love the sound of the Montage 8 too! Don't own one of those, maybe I'll pick one up now. Use Dexibell for the piano and main keyboard. Nice Jupiter 8 off to the side too!! Cheers!! Rix :)
I believe he’s using the P6 to control the OB6, but I could be mistaken. I agree, the Montage sounds wonderful here. I use plugins for all of my ROMpler type sounds but this has me considering a Montage and an OB6 haha 😅

Still waiting for my P10 from Sweetwater. getting a good deal or I would pick one up off Reverb.com new. Only plug-ins I use is real orchestra instruments and some vocal background.

I’m assuming you’re using the P-6 to control the OB-6? The sounds are absolutely stunning. Both the OB-6 and Montage sound amazing here. I don’t have one myself, but I have the Pro3 which has the OB-6 filter, and it sounds absolutely marvelous. Great work! Truly inspiring.
I've got an old ARP Odyssey mk ii and a Prophet Rev2. I'm starting to think the Ob6 or the Prophet 6 might compliment the ARP better. which would you choose?

I was listening (on my yamaha monitors of course) whilst working at home and at 1:40 when that gorgeous modulated patch crept in my ears stood up! I immediately harkened back to "Blake's 7". Marvelous sound from the OB-6. Thanks for sharing Matt. Were they all presets you were demonstrating or patches you created? Do you find the OB-6 / Pro 6 lacking modulation options? That Low Frequencer Expander product looks interesting giving it a few more LFOs and an envelope.

I’m assuming you’re using the P-6 to control the OB-6? The sounds are absolutely stunning. Both the OB-6 and Montage sound amazing here.
I don’t have one myself, but I have the Pro3 which has the OB-6 filter, and it sounds absolutely marvelous.

He is, the fact that there are no audio outs connected on the P6 and only a MIDI cable was the tip off
I've got an old ARP Odyssey mk ii and a Prophet Rev2. I'm starting to think the Ob6 or the Prophet 6 might compliment the ARP better. which would you choose?

They are internal sounds but I made my own patch

I was listening (on my yamaha monitors of course) whilst working at home and at 1:40 when that gorgeous modulated patch crept in my ears stood up! I immediately harkened back to "Blake's 7". Marvelous sound from the OB-6. Thanks for sharing Matt. Were they all presets you were demonstrating or patches you created? (Because if I buy an OB-6 it will be for THAT sound :) )

Do you find the OB-6 / Pro 6 lacking modulation options? That Low Frequencer Expander product looks interesting giving it a few more LFOs and an envelope.
They are fairly basic but you can get a lot of sounds out of them still
The raw tone makes up for it.
*Sounding really good Matt, but this is not helping my life long desire to own an OB-family synth* ... maybe (when it finally arrives) the Behringer UB-Xa will satisfy my itch; if not I'll just have to give my son the bad news that his Uni fund "accidently" got spent on an OBXa....
