    virtually created the Australian music Industry , without Johnny O'Keefe there would have been no Olivia Newton John, no Bee Gees, No Peter Allen , shall i go on ? . .. This man was so committed to getting Australian talent recognized at a time when all we were hearing were american pop songs that emerged after Elvis . Before that, all we had was Perry Como and Sinatra . We loved the new american pop, but where were our own ? Johnny O"Keefe new we Australians could be just as good as the American pop idols. He insisted on an Australian music pop industry and showcased so many Aussie singers and gave the Australian people years of entertainment that was first class. And what a talent he himself was , thank you J.O.K... you bloody brilliant man . A true Australian legend . Love you and your music forever . R.I.P. beautiful soul .

      @@shanerowland5818 Really, wow. Oh gosh they would have been great times. I had never met Johnny, but I had a couple of friends who did, when he was singing at Bondi here in Sydney before he hit our Australian television screens. They said he was very confident of himself, very talented, loved the attention, yet was also very very humble, and that his favourite person in the whole wide world that he loved and adored was Elvis Presley.
      Johnny O'Keefe was a very interesting personality. Hey, thanks for your response.

      @blueycarlton 6 лет назад +1

      The tyranny of distance. One of O'Keefe's records was a hit in New York and New Orleans. I believe he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.
      Normie Rowe had a big hit in Australia with Shakin' All Over which according to Rowe was recorded before the Canadian Guess Who's version. It's a ripper version, to me, certainly better than the original.

    • @blueycarlton
      @blueycarlton 6 лет назад

      Here is O'Keefe live in 1959, he used to blow the visting American acts off the stage.
      Backing singers are The Delltones and JOK'S band the Dee Jays

      @@blueycarlton - Don't know who told you that, however O'Keefe NEVER appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. To be on that show, you had to be a big name in America. The original of "Shakin All Over" was by the UK's Johnny Kidd in 1960, five years before Rowe and The Guess Who revived the song.

      Im only going by O'Keefe's TV biopic which had him on it.
      As for Rowe, he told me he had never heard Johnny Kidd's record, but of course, had heard the 1961 version by Johnny Chester. Rowe said he had recorded his version before the Guess Who's was released.
      Chester's version had been released in Canada on Kim Records back in the day, so that may
      have had some influence with the Guess Who, who knows?

    JOK did a lot for the pop industry, He did lose the voice but studio magic helps, a pioneer for rock n roll in Australia, later years worked the tents at the Ekka and Sydney Easter shows , miming his old records.
