virtually created the Australian music Industry , without Johnny O'Keefe there would have been no Olivia Newton John, no Bee Gees, No Peter Allen , shall i go on ? . .. This man was so committed to getting Australian talent recognized at a time when all we were hearing were american pop songs that emerged after Elvis . Before that, all we had was Perry Como and Sinatra . We loved the new american pop, but where were our own ? Johnny O"Keefe new we Australians could be just as good as the American pop idols. He insisted on an Australian music pop industry and showcased so many Aussie singers and gave the Australian people years of entertainment that was first class. And what a talent he himself was , thank you J.O.K... you bloody brilliant man . A true Australian legend . Love you and your music forever . R.I.P. beautiful soul .
@@shanerowland5818 Really, wow. Oh gosh they would have been great times. I had never met Johnny, but I had a couple of friends who did, when he was singing at Bondi here in Sydney before he hit our Australian television screens. They said he was very confident of himself, very talented, loved the attention, yet was also very very humble, and that his favourite person in the whole wide world that he loved and adored was Elvis Presley. Johnny O'Keefe was a very interesting personality. Hey, thanks for your response.
JOK'S music on radio was what got me interested in listening to his music on radio. Now playing his music regularly to this day. Have so much of all his music on Records Cassettes CDS and DVDS. Thanks JOK
Be one of the first to know!( We're Counting On You Too ) a tribute song to Johnny will probibly be released Jan, Feb 2023 written by Colin Purssey and sung by James Pearce.
I was only 3 years old in 1961 and only got to hear the music of Johnny O'Keefe when I 5 and just wanted to listen to it over and over again still love all his songs today.

J.o.k may have passed away but I'll never forget him. I just bought another double cd . If I could say something to him it would be that .. I thank you johnny O'Keefe . Sadly missed be all
The tyranny of distance. One of O'Keefe's records was a hit in New York and New Orleans. I believe he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Normie Rowe had a big hit in Australia with Shakin' All Over which according to Rowe was recorded before the Canadian Guess Who's version. It's a ripper version, to me, certainly better than the original.
Here is O'Keefe live in 1959, he used to blow the visting American acts off the stage. Backing singers are The Delltones and JOK'S band the Dee Jays ruclips.net/video/s-p2TPye6-M/видео.html
@@blueycarlton - Don't know who told you that, however O'Keefe NEVER appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. To be on that show, you had to be a big name in America. The original of "Shakin All Over" was by the UK's Johnny Kidd in 1960, five years before Rowe and The Guess Who revived the song.

I also like Johnny Nash's original of this song for ABC-Paramount, released 2 weeks before JOK's version. Petula Clark also recorded a cover version for the UK market.
They should put the surviving episodes of this TV series on the streaming services (though I'm aware that clearing the music rights would be a challenge).
JOK did a lot for the pop industry, He did lose the voice but studio magic helps, a pioneer for rock n roll in Australia, later years worked the tents at the Ekka and Sydney Easter shows , miming his old records.
Why don't they remaster all of John Farnhams Albums from 1960's & 1970's in tact for download on Itunes and Google play I think the fans will definitely want them.

Those were the days of real music ! Glad I was there.
Godfather of aus rock
Classic Oz rock . The Man was a musical genius and way ahead of his time. Paved the way for all the Aussie rock performers that followed.
Johnny had the x factor, a kind of vulnerability and honesty, combined with emotional release and mastery. The man could excite...
Great song ,had this played at our Wedding .
Thanks JOK.
I grew up with JOK. HE WAS GREAT. He was before his time in aus. Sadly He was badly treated by the public and sometimes the media.
The great JO'K 👍
Best Australian singer of his time.
Love your Aussie flag !
