one defense for FNAF 2 and something you got wrong is that this location is not skimping out on things.

As someone who lives in a very small town, I'd like to offer the idea that Hurricane residents probably are aware of these robot cryptids and just go inside after sundown and lock the doors, just ignore them and they'll go away, lol.

Ok, in defense of The Toys and Springlock suits, Scott Cawthon at that point was someone who made stuff in the Sci Fi genre.
So because of that Scott would probably consciously or subconsciously add sci-fi elements to Fnaf, even before Sister Location.
So while I do agree that Springlock suits are not technically realistic, I still think Springtrap does work as a horror design and character,
And for the Toy animatronics, they aren’t realistic either, But I think there designs were made to show how advanced this new pizzeria is compared to the old one, but that came at the cost of horror in their base designs.
So I think it’s best to look at something in the Science Fantasy genre, rather then just strictly horror
I think the main reason I don’t like the toys is because the glamrocks did what they tried to do a lot better. And I really like springtrap, I just feel like Scott could’ve thought of something a little less complicated and hard to convey than what he ended up going with
@@milesofkilometerss that’s honestly fair, I think the Novel version of the Springlock suits fix the original issue to an extent, because instead of holding back in entire endo, It holds back the stuff that attaches to the endoskeleton.
It’s also cool to see someone finally defend Springtrap’s corpse, because I feel like the people trying to give Springtrap a more “realistic” corpse kinda loses the subtlety of the original.
Mainly because before Fnaf 3, people thought Springtrap’s blood vessels and organs were just wires on first glance, but after the reveal of Afton being inside of Springtrap, it becomes more obvious that their is a human inside. And the way his organs rap around the Spring Bonnie endo looks more interesting to me then just a regular corpse
This isn’t to bash Stylized Springtrap modelers, I’m just saying I don’t think a “realistic” Springtrap should replace the original forever

I’m sorry, I love my broken down animatronics over realism and those bots may not look scary but they look badass to look at.

THANK YOU, i will never understand the fnaf4 / nightmare hate. those things are so freaky especially in the context of the game, i have to believe that the people who still complain just haven't played it in a while, if ever. if you wanna see designs that are trying too hard then look at pizzeria sim's main cast, but the nightmares are good in my book

Tbh there will be no feeling like the first time I saw the first fnaf characters in 5ht grade. They're simple, but they really make you have an eerie feeling.
Whenever I take a look at the designs for certain characters, especially those in the later games, I have to consider that horror isn't the only driving force in Fnaf. The Steel Wool era games have put a lot more emphasis on narrative, worldbuilding and fun. The Glamrock Animatronics aren't horror monsters so much as they are tragic characters in their own right. I don't think they need spirits either. Their malfunctioning AI is their whole thing.
Fnaf as a whole is a lot more fun and colorful and vibrant nowadays. And that has its pros and cons. I will always be grateful whenever real, striking horror comes into play in this series, but at the same time I am not going to write off fun gameplay and narrative experiences like Ruin and Help Wanted 2.
The Fnaf Movie... It is what it is. Like you said, none of it really reaches the pure dread, fear and unease of Fnaf1, and the implementation of the designs are a large component of that. At this point, however, we still have an opportunity. I look at the Fnaf Movie now as its own thing and I see potential. I see a unique, twisted ambalgam of B-Horror sincerity, humour, twistedness and scares. Now that this unique identity is set, I want them to run with it. I want it pushed to its limit. I want to see the heights that this particular identity can reach.

I still don't think the design changes of Scrap Baby, Peanut Afton, or the FNAF 2 withers, are even intentional. The extras menus in these games strongly imply that Scott models characters by modeling _their entire endoskeleton_ first, and _only then_ sculpting their suits around it-- which is demented, it's like painting a portrait by painting the subject's entire skull first
Like, I don't think he redesigned Circus Baby-- I think he lost the original session file, tried to recreate her, and completely failed because his workflow is so fucked up

I like how when the chapters change, you’re chilling in the cameras in the next game.
i was so excited for that FNaF movie, and was thoroughly disappointed due to the lack of fear. people accuse me of wanted an R-rating, blood and gore and such, but that's not it! It was the fact I wanted the psychological tension of the characters from the first game! I was so excited to see the animatronics be unable to discern people who are innocent from those who are dangerous, and the inability to emote. The FNaF movie is a decent spinoff movie, enjoyable to watch for sure, but it's not what I was hoping for.
also, i loved Ruin's designs so much. I don't care much for the lore (since the whole meta "the games are games in the universe" thing came from HW1) but I enjoy playing the games for what they are!
They're not scary anymore, to me, but the OG, scary. Mangle always freaked me out, the way its disassembled and just hanging on the ceiling was creepy. I just got tired of jumpscares, its just being startled, not scared. JUST MY OPINION DON'T COME FOR ME😂lol. Oh and the extra pics of Springtrap with its mouth open and the little head in there, freaked me out. God it was so long ago.
When the first games were coming out, they were so scary to me. I couldn't watch them before bed, since they made me feel unsafe in my bed.
And then since fnaf4, the only true jumpscare that ever got me... was map bot.
I played the VR game for a bit, it frightened me. But the jumpscares didn't get me. I tested fnaf 1, peeking out the room and foxy running at me immidiately was funny. In the repair section, the jumpscares were more frustrating.
A lot of people actually love the Glamrocks and their personalities, They're actually some of the most popular characters in the FNAF series arguably up there with the Classic 4, They win a lot of polls I post on Reddit and a lot of RUclips polls. A lot of people love their designs too despite not being scary, I love them too actually, They're my favorite set of animatronics in the series, Monty is my all time favorite FNAF character, And plus, I think them having personalities really makes connect with them and relate to them, Yeah they're not scary in the slightest but that doesn't make them bad, I think a deep connection with a character is great, I think it's bigger than a Scary Killer Robot, That's just me though, Please don't hate me.

Cool video! Your analysis was unique and I think you hit most of the core points of what makes these designs good (or bad). Particularly the sections about rendering and context - as shown by a game like FNAF 4 or even Pizza Sim, the context and lighting can make character designs that aren't perfect much more intimidating (such as Scraptrap or Nightmare Bonnie). I like the Knuckles Chaotix music. Also, I DIED laughing at the skeleton animatronic falling on that person. Do you have the original video?

Not gonna lie, your points past FNAF 3 are pretty bad. But I like the Yume Nikki references. Specially the points about fan redesigns. It's a fan interpretation, of course it doesn't have the charm of the original, because it isn't the original, and it isn't trying to be. And comparing Scraptrap to FNAF Plus' animatronics is strange, because Scraptap is objectively anatomically incorrect in many, many levels. The FNAF plus animatronics are fine.
I dont mean that the plus animatronics are anatomically incorrect, I just mean that i think really ugly looking and scraptrap is the most obvious example of an ugly main series animatronic
Fantastic video, man. Your complaints about the over-expressive, actively-threatening and "goofy" faces and behaviors of the animatronics in the movie were right on the money with how I felt, too. More often than not when trying to be scary, less is more.
FINALLY, someone who points out the bottom eyelids in the FNAF movie.
It's cool that they have them, but they do not always need to squint.
Also in just gonna point this out, they're not based on the FNAF 1 character designs for one simple reason. Look at them, then look at the designs for Help Wanted. Bonnie is blue with white, Chica is yellow, Freddy is a light brown and Foxy is a dull red.
I think the problem is... they don't look like the characters. They look like replicas, copies, imitations, fakes. Good fakes, but still fakes.
The movie guys are the same designs, but the colors are more bright. Bonnie is blue and not his purplish color, Freddy is a somewhat lighter brown with bright muzzle/tummy spot, Chica seems brighter (might be wrong tbh), and Foxy is almost perfect with his colors, his tummy is more of a peachy tan than his normal light red.
Another reason why they don't look good (along with what was said in the video), is the lighting. Rarely do these guys bathe in the darkness. Hide that friendly character and reveal the horror inside. Only shot I can think of was the cool Foxy transition that they did. They're almost always in decently well lit rooms.
I personally think this is due to the Hell Wanted models where they did do a much brighter and fun palette...which is never what FNaF should have if it's going to be that horror juggernaut.
Also yeah the movie totally got the spring locks wrong, never noticed that

Okay so in defense of like Jr.s and FNAF plus the designs look fine??? The animatronics having clothes is not a weird thing lol they literally all get clothes later in the series and it’s UNREALISTIC for them to NOT have clothes because animatronics in real life have literally always had clothes. The designs in fnaf one being so..paper cut out like is exactly why people want to redo them. They should be more then just “yes all have same body but head and color different hmm yes that’s how we differentiate them” NO! Chica is a girl! Make her look like one without making her inherently sexual! Bonnie is the side kick bassist MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE MORE THEN FREDDYS PAWN!!! He deserves more then some lame bow tie!

These weren't fnaf movie original (but they certainly used it alot.), the first time they've used the rotating eyebrows trick was in 2016 (more specifically, the render of freddy and foxy for fright dome)

Also, JR's was lame af imo. It did that thing that FNAF 2 and Pizzeria Sim do where almost every animatronic has the same mechanic, a trope I will always hate. The jumpscares are so dark and quick you can barely tell what you're looking at. You don't even get a chance to see the designs that were used to hype the game up unless it's on the game over screens.

Yeah, the Security Breach characters don’t feel scary, and I think SB’s horror factor was underwhelming. The bright lighting and the lack of stakes/tension essentially eliminate any chance of fear being present. The Daycare, the Endos, and even the Sewers all feel creepy to me. Despite that however, I have no problem with these characters having personalities. They may feel more lifelike, but I think the one thing that makes them unsettling is how these animatronics slowly turn into lifeless monsters (especially when you consider the reason they start acting strange in the first place {cough cough the Mimic}). It’s also unsettling when you think about how Fazbear Entertainment made the animatronics to behave a certain manner, and the Mimic worsens the worst aspects of these Glamrocks. Ruin definitely improved a lot on the fear factor for these characters. Also, I do like the idea of Sun/Moon fighting for control over their body. It’s not something you’d expect from a friendly daycare attendant. Idk, I like seeing animatronics dealing with their own struggles while also being dangerous towards the player.
I do have to disagree with you on the FNaF Movie designs being bad, however. I know the movie doesn’t do a lot of horror, and the designs don’t really feel scary, but I think the additional expression really helps to show that these robots are possessed by children. I like seeing the more human side of the animatronics, even if it takes away some of the horror factor from them. I also think the reason they don’t look scary is because the film feels more whimsical than creepy. That’s just my opinion though. You do make a good point about the Puppet’s comment on the kids. I’d be interested in seeing the kids act like that. It would make them feel more unsettling.
With that said, I would like to see the sequel lean more towards horror, perhaps they may limit the animatronics’ expressions to reflect that. Personally, I absolutely loved the movie despite its flaws, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the second film turns out.
Also also, I will not allow any Fort scene slander. It is one of the best scenes of the FNaF Movie, and I will stand by that opinion/lh
One last thing. Yeah, Lefty and Plushtrap are really cool characters.

I've always thought Security Breach was about corrupting something innocent into becoming something horrifying. Vanessa being brainwashed by Glitchtrap and becoming Vanny, Roxy, Monty, and Glamrock Chica getting reprogrammed by her before getting damaged to the point of looking absolutely monstrous. Corruption of innocence is a running theme throughout Security Breach, at least in the original game. I have no idea what the theme of Ruin would be. Maybe redemption? Cassie helps Sundrop, can help Glamrock Chica if the player decides to, and brings out the goodness in Roxy, who saves Cassie from the Mimic.
I actually prefer FNaF 3 Springtrap's jumpscare being slower and subtler. Imo, it makes sense with the context of Afton still being aware of himself and partly in control of the suit. He's not mindlessly jumping at you, he's hunting you as a game.

In defense of FNaF Plus.
Phisnom wasn't trying to fix the designs. He was trying to redesign them. This is a remake of the first game, after all, so it makes sense for them to be redesigned. A lot of people say they're too scary, which respectfully is kind of dumb to say about a remake of a horror game thats supposed to be a darker and edgier remake. Phisnom himself even said the FNaF Plus designs were his own edgier designs of the original 4. Also, a lot of people seem to have the most complaints with Chica even though she has the same vibe going on as Withered Chica. They're both broken animatronics, and if you fixed both of them, they'd still be terrifying. I think talking about random fan redesigns you can find online (and JR's) makes sense to criticize, but FNaF Plus was a remake that wasn't really trying to fix the designs and just remade the designs for a remade game so it should get a pass.

The shattered animatronics are horrifying, mostly because they're actually sentient now, and we're mutilating them. Of course there's still ghosts deep below this place, but the animatronics on the surface aren't possesed. But they're sentient. They feel pain. They're being hacked, they don't actually WANT to kill you. And they're being mistreated by fazbear entertainment. It's just generally messed up. I think it's interesting.
Glamrock chica is one of the scariest animatronics ever, no joke, especially when shattered. Idk she's just. Horrifying.
Also a LOT of your "realism" complaints can be explained by fazbear entertainment being incredibly scummy. They're just canonically negligent. The daycare attendant likely wasn't even built for the daycare.

I was kind of a little sad you skipped over IMO a really good merit to hold modern FNAF in through one other character that really brings back the aspect of the old games 10 fold in my opinion.
In Help Wanted we experince the lovable lawsuit to Fazbear ENT. that is Glitchtrap.
Now Glitchtrap to me already invokes some sort of strange irrational fear from childhood while playing a video game, that there is something else beyond the normal, backdrops, models, and renders that is observing all of this and aware of you as the induvidual playing the game it resigns in. The way Glitchtrap operates in HW is extremely eerie and disturbing to me, adressing itself to you visually through a means of over animated human like body movement in a game full of wacky cartoon animotronics with hilarious bolbous eyes, that move roboticly or twitchy. But Glitchtrap is observant it crouches down and waves at you stationary with staring lifeless vacant eyes. The way Glitchtrap is animated in game also helps emphasize its erriness too, beckoning you crouching down puling back the curtain and stomping back into the darkness barley vissable anymore, and just dissappearing entirley. It helps put into prospective how genuinley terrifying it is to see this thing take literal children away back stage while putting on a joyous act. Its scary how alluring and friendly it seems, as you see how the kids would want to listen and follow, but the context behind it fills you with this awful dread, and disgusts for the man on screen taking you backstage.
Another thing is his design, the overly human like proportions to his body, and sort of hodgepodge sewing in the costumes limbs, and the fabric creaveses in the costume astablishing the male figure inside the suit. But the head contrasts, it is cartoonish, animated, but so cold and still. With a smile that should bring joy but instead haunts anyone who precives it. Wall eyes with a faded effect on the purple pupils slanted. It's reminiscent of that one old poorly peiced together chucke cheese mascotte that you'd always hate seeing being worn out in the open, or simply just being able to have your mom force you to have its arm around you as you take a birthday picture with it. Its genuinley perfect for uncanny valley in that regard.
Also the environment Glitchtrap is put in. Dark and dimly lit areas always slowly emerging from it to reveal itself to you closley and slowly. You don't want to interact with it, but it wants to interact with you as you fear collecting each tape bringing it closer. Eventually to the point its right infront of you staring beside waving.
I luv the fnaf movie. It's the best fan service I have ever seen
