my mother took me to the nutcracker and it inspired me to start ballet because i wanted to be a ginger girl and yet instead i was A RAT FOR SEVEN YEARS STRAIGHT
oh my god this cracked me up 😂 i feel so bad for you
My friend was in the nutcracker and she adored the little rat constume😂 she would get it every year for like 3 years and then she finally chose that she likes being in snow better. (She still does the lil party mouse idk what it’s called but it’s hilarious in a good way😂
With those proportionately tiny hands and feet the ‘bear’ looks much more like a hamster 😂🐹 and as such is adorable.
that bear became a meme
@@JoaoPessoa86 I’m going on a bear meme hunt… 😉
@@clarewillison9379 images3.memedroid.com/images/UPLOADED548/603000f93980a.jpeg
Omg I am dying reading this lmao
OMG IM DYIMG THE BEAR IS OSOOO FUNNYYY
My studio is in hawaii so we do the Hawaiian version of the nutcracker. We have i’iwi birds, a sugar plumeria fairies, orchid fairies, a Hawaiian doll, and owl soldier, Hawaiian warriors, and hula dancers. You HAVE to come see it next year!!!!!! Or the year after, but you have to come and make a video about it. It’s so cool and we have like 5 and 6 year olds dancing. It’s awsome!!!!!!!
I saw you have some guests from famous companies too! Wish I could see it!
So cool!!!
@@ThePointeShop omg you responded!!! It’s super fun and I totally want you to come and see it sometime!!!! We have professional dancers too. Maybe you could be one!!! I love you so much!!!!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I would love to see that!
@@gabrielle4821 yah we do and its so much fun, but lots of work. You could definently come next year!!
My childhood dream was to be a ballet dancer. Sadly, my body type (short, thick, squat legs) and lack of turnout squashed that but I enjoy living vicariously through your videos! The Nutcracker is one of my favorite
I never realised ballet existed until I was in my very late teens.
Now at 65, I can’t afford lessons.
It’s very beautiful to watch.
You can still do it! In adult ballet classes, no one is the perfect ballet body. If you like ballet, it's never late!
@@shining_valoka
Thank you for your encouraging words. ♥️
@@shining_valoka I took ballet classes in college and loved it! I'm pigeon-toed (or whatever the correct term is) and some positions are really difficult and painful
Same. Also crappy overall health as a child and feet flat as planks.
That last guy got hit in the face with a flying bobby pin. The fact that he managed the catch is impressive.
My understanding is that the Boston Ballet bear is made of ruffled layers of tulle so it's light(er) weight and a bit more breathable than it looks
i was wondering. thats good to hear n really interesting thank u!
@@Joy.Elizabeth It’s amazing how all those layers of tulle look like fur! In the audience, you cannot tell. (The Boston Ballet has an article, briefly flashed on screen here, called “Becoming the Nutcracker Bear,” and it’s a very interesting read!)
Hey Josephine. The National Ballet of Canada's production of Nutcracker has two bears. One en pointe, and another one on roller skates!
That would look so cool! I would love to see that performance
@@piggie971 I will warn you. This Nutcracker sells out REAL quick! They actually sold out their current run of Nutcracker before opening night! So follow the national ballet of Canada on their socials so you will know when the tickets for the 2024 run of Nutcracker will go on sale!
In the Snowqueen of Finnish National Ballet, the Snowqueen herself uses a segway to act as her sleigh.
OMG I wanna c them! Can't find any videos on yt
I worked at Disney as a photopass photographer, mainly with the characters. Meet and greets were limited to 20 min sets, but the parades lasted about 45 mins start to finish. Then stage performances were usually in that 20-25 min mark.
Yes, it is as hot as you think. It’s heavy. And it takes incredible strength to move around like that. I hope that’s his only piece for the night because that would be exhausting.
And then he has to fill in for The Cavalier (the Sugar Plum Fairy's dance partner).
The Bear costume actually weighs less than 10 pounds! It’s made of a sports mesh and tulle. So much tulle - over 160 yards!
@@khills Wow. It looks like a fur material and that stuff can get heavy pretty quickly.
@@SandrA-hr5zk IKR? It’s really impressive how they get the tulle to look like fur. There are closeups on the Boston Ballet’s website (“Becoming the Boston Ballet Bear”); I can tell you, from the audience? TOTALLY reads as thick, thick fur!
Don’t Disney mascots have cooling tech in their suits? I know that some NFL mascots do…!
The "dancing walnuts" are from Joffrey's new Nutcracker by Wheeldon! Their old one was more traditional.
Yes they said that in the video after
I saw it last year and loved it!
Just saw the Boston rendition and the bear was simply magical, the sheer amount of strength that dancer had was incredible.
The Nutcracker brings you joy and happiness. Unless you've been in it 2000 times. 😂😂😂
Wow! I just finished dancing the Nutcracker. The trauma is real! Please make this a yearly thing. It's amazing. I love watching my own experiance perfectly replicated.
At first, the dancing bear kinda freaked me out since I was used to seeing a doll in that roll. I eventually warmed up to it since the dancer was amazing! That costume had to be pretty heavy and hot!
I went and saw the nutcracker for the first time last night - I’m 31 and live in Hong Kong. It was amazing!!! Planning on taking my sons to watch so they can be in awe of all the amazing boys in ballet! Leaping and bounding and turning!! They did a Hong Kong themed version, and all the little kids were dumplings, egg tarts and Chinese mushrooms - it was the cutest
I'm not a ballet dancer, but I was a flute player, so I relate to the feeling of hearing your music and going right back to that place. 🎼🙂
2500 performances over my career….😜 You can always spot former dancers this time of the year…on elevators when nutcracker music starts playing. At the very least they get a traumatized look in their eyes, or at worst they start clawing at the doors trying to get out… the trauma is real.
That’s one of the reasons I’m impressed with Kathryn Morgan when she analyzes her dancing. She can distance herself from her performance.
Nutcraker will be ALWAYS bring JOY! no matter the AMount i hear or Dance it
Fr
Same for me…. With the exception of the snowflakes. That music only brings the steps. That’s it. No emotion. Just “step hop step hop, run run run jete” on endless repeat. Love everything else though!
You should watch the NYCB where they show the dancers rehearsing or performing, and they narrate what's going through their heads!
The Rockettes costume in that video you watched has mesh that goes over their shoulders that is dyed to match each Rockette's individual skin tone. Gives the illusion that the costume is entirely strapless :)
Other people: the holidays/ Christmas season
Ballet dancers: THE NUTCRACKER SEASON
Im so excited because my ballet teacher gave me the go ahead for pointe shoes and im actually going to the pointe shop on saturday!!
yayy!! congrats have fun :D
congrat, the first time,thats pretty.
🙏🧚🏼♀️🍀
I guess the good thing about wearing costume/masks while dancing is that you don't have to keep a smile plastered on your face all the freaking time.
You need to react to the Beatrice Potter Peter Rabbit ballet! I love the Boston Ballet bear. It so conveys the feeling of giant toys coming to life!
I just did my nutcracker performance on Saturday. Nobody else knows the things that happen backstage except the dancers 😅
I was in the nutcracker children’s choir in my city when I was 9. Yes, the little tin-foil wrapped angels that come out at the end of act 1. I met the rat king backstage and he had a MASSIVE costume head he wore. Every show he looked a little more haggard. He said next year he was joining us where he could at least breathe real air 😂
A number of years ago I was a volunteer at Boston Ballet and they needed to play the bear for an event -- caper around, take pictures with kids, that sort of thing. Unfortunately only the lower half of the costume fit me. From what I recall, it was hot, but it weighed very little.
I demand a video of Josephine entering a room like that!!! 😍🤩
There is something so charming about the Nutcracker!!!!!!!!
💕💗💓💞🩰🩰🩰🩰
every couple years my local ballet company would do a week of what they called the nutty nutcracker. all the same music but completely different interpretations. like there would be jugglers and acro and rhythmic gymnastics in the second act and the first act would be like a house part or something.
it was so much fun bc the regular cast got to watch and see other acts
THE NUTCRACKER SEASON IS SEASONING
Omg I saw the nutcracker at the royal opera house in London yesterday!!
OMGG WHEN I SAW THE DANCING TEDDY BEAR I STARTED TO DIEEEE!!! my english class was learning about the nutcracker and we were watching the boston ballet nutcracker and when they saw the bear the boys would not stop going “IS THAT FREDDY FRAZBEAR HAR HAR HAR HAR”
I liked the toronto nutcracker. A tree grew huge and the whole thing took place on top of a cake. It was like they shrunk down.
Former pit orchestra celeste player here. Oh my word Sugarplum gives me flashbacks LOL
I love the Celeste. Thank you for the beauty!
This is my second nutcracker and im Clara!😊
Ive never danced the nutcracker but that song is my school bell😂
Every so often some bit of the music from Nutbracker pops into my head, and I'll hum it for a few seconds before realizing, horrified, what it is. Nutcracker PTSD is right! And I wasn't even a ballerina - my dad was a professional ballet dancer and was with Pittsburgh Ballet Theater and Pittsburgh Youth Ballet for years. I sat through so many rehearsals AND performances as a child, I have all the music and most of the choreography they used indelibly embedded in my brain.
I do the same thing with that Mariah Carey song which shall not be named.
When I say “Oh yah I was a solder”
Everyone is like “ oh so you have the song thats like dum dum da da da dum dum dum (March)”
Me having a mental breakdown over that song
omg yes. i just finished the nutcracker a few days ago. now whenever a song from it plays, my mind goes "oh no, not this again".
I was party girl last year, and russian this year. and this brings back memories
It’s official this is my now my entire personality keep it going!!!
Im so excited, Ill be watching the nutcracker today in the evening!
Josephine I went to my first ballet yesterday (Nutcracker, of course) and girl you have done something irreversible to my brain cuz I couldn't stop looking at their feet!
I must have not danced in the nutcracker enough because I don't feel the trauma as much when I hear the music. I did, however, irk a lot watching The Nutcracker and 4 Realms simply because they used Act 2 music at the party scene and just all over the place. 😂😂😂
The only piece that I did any of the nutcracker was the Waltz of the flowers and that was only for our recital (in June!) Imo it's nowhere the same as learning something that you perform daily (or multiple times a day!) The way the Nutcracker is. My brother got to be in one, though. I'll have to ask him if he feels a certain way about the toy soldier dance. Hats off to the dancers in professional ballet companies!
I just saw the nutcracker for the first time ever at the Joffery Ballet this December, and while yes it is the reimagined version you mentioned, it still has the "Dancing Walnuts." :)
OMG!!! I know this will be my fav video!!!
I always love the rats. 😂 It isn’t all princesses and dolls!
OMG the bear is so good I've watched it so many times lol
Y’know she makes a good point…
I used to hate listening to the nutcracker music… but I quit ballet 8 years ago and now I love it lol
I’m in the Nutcracker this year, and this is almost exactly what happens. Sewing shoes, boys goofing around, and songs bringing me PTSD
That bear dancing is AMAZING! But I will always prefer the version from YEARS ago with Mikhail Baryshnikov. That will always be my all time favorite.
That bear costume looks so soft!
I’m sorry I just have to comment. Why do I love that u used Marzipan in between each video?? LIKE ITS MY FAVE DANCE FOR NO REASON
The Rockettes costume has mesh straps the matches the dancers skin tone.
My younger brother was in our former dance studio's production of The Nutcracker when he was like 6-7 because there weren't that many under 10 boys in ballet to be the party boys. I think he was specifically the son of a rich lady character, but I could be wrong, it's been so long since then lol. He can't watch the ballet without ~the flashbacks~ to practices tho so he doesn't, but I do because I was a jazz dancer by that point and never did a formal ballet production myself, so I still thoroughly enjoy it XD
AAA, this is so fun! Luv you
I've sadly only done the nutcracker once, as my dance studio stopped doing it the year after my first time doing it. I'm sad because it was so fun! But even if we do it next year, I can't be a rat again because that part is for the younger dancers. Being a rat was so fun. I miss it. 😔
That commentary one had me dying like I talk to myself like that when I’m dancing like once I made a video of me doing an arabesque and it was like everything that goes through my head in one ballet move and it was stuff like bend your back leg before you go up and get over that box and straighten your knees and raise your back leg higher and point your back foot and nice port de bras and keep your face nice and soft SO MUCH GOES INTO IT
My sister does agonistic skating and for Christmas they put on a show and this year will be the Nutcracker and she will be a sweet (probably a gingerbread man) can't wait to see her ☺️
LOVED THIS❣️ She should Totally send you that Shirt ❣️😀
i was on the live stream for the San Fran Nutcracker with you but i love your content!!
It’s the season to crack some nuts by doing the splits in rehearsal - my bestie Selina 2022 nutcracker season 😂😂😂
Professional viola player here. I just finished my Nutcracker season. So good to see it from a different angle😂😂😂😂😂.
We have a bear in Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Canadian version named Filbert who rides around on a scooter and its amazing. They were an icepack vest, and a cage body and a huge bear costume its amazing how the girls still dance!
Eva Nys has some videos of funny Arabian dance mishaps Jo should watch! ❤
My friend took me to the San Fran opera house to see The Nutcracker this Christmas (she knew that was the show I was supposed to be in when practicing, but wasn't able to do it because my family couldn't afford to). Literally best night of my life! It was magical. But I couldn't help thinking of Josephine looking at all the point shoes lmao!! Thanks to the point shop, I was just staring at their feet knowing the fate of those point shoes 😂
That bear was freeking awesome.
But imagine learning that routine and being picked sweat running down your whole body but your so happy 😊. Then they bring out the costumes and say "here ypur wearing this one" 🐻
You "..............😮"
But your a dancer and you'll still be awesomeness 👌.
I got be a toy soldier a few days ago for the nutcracker and it was sooooooo fun 🤩
I just saw The Nutcracker from the Boston Ballet for the first time. Amazing, especially the bear!
I want this bear for Christmas 😭🐻 ❤
The outfits in the clip starting at 2:13 have a layer of illusion mesh (a sheer shin-toned layer of fabric) over the shoulders that helps hold up the bodice. It's not *quite* matched perfectly on the darker skinned dancer, you can see a line around her neck where it transitions from fabric to skin.
I'd love to see you reacting to Finnish National Ballet's performances. They have a stage24 service where they have recordings of various performances. At some point they had Little Mermaid, Snowqueen and Sleeping Beauty (and of course Nutcracker) and soon they'll add this year's Christmas ballet: A Christmas Carol. And I bet next spring they'll add Romeo and Juliet when it hits the stage.
The Finnish National Ballet has taken to rotating different Chrismas ballets on different years so it is not always just the Nutcracker. I think Snowqueen was added some ten years ago and now A Christmas Carol is joining the party.
It must be so much fun to play the bear or the rats 😂
No video available at this point, but you should Totally check out the Not Cracker in Portland, OR next year. They wrapped up last weekend and it is Incredible!
As someone who was in band 6th through 12 grade: the music doesn’t just trigger PTSD for dancers…
The number of times I played “The Nutcracker Suite” on xylophone is actually absurd! 😭
I might not be a ballerina anymore but I think I'm still gonna start saying "happy nutcracker season" instead of "merry Christmas" lol
soooo relatable i am a party girl and on stage for 45 minutes!!!!
I was also waiting for the Bears twerk 😂
I'd love it if all your fans could react to your dancing videos!
I had the standard little girl ballerina dreams, they were crushed when my mom said my teacher told her I was as graceful as an elephant. 🤨 Elephants are actually graceful but I'm sure it wasn't intended to be a compliment, lol. I've seen the Nutcracker many times with my mom, I'm not sure which company it was but they'd perform at the University of Maine in Machias each year back in the late 90s. I had such a crush on one of the dancers, a guy named Alexander Zendzian. I got curious in the last couple years after finding his name in one of my journals and googled him, I think he's in the San Francisco area if I remember correctly. I've always loved ballet, the grace and strength of the dancers and the beautiful costumes. I never became a dancer but I did become an artist and dancers are some of my favorite subjects to draw and paint. Also a big fan of Edgar Degas and his dancer pieces.
I did the nutcracker like a few days ago and it was amazing 🤩
😂😂 I like that last clip 😂😂
I’m not on the nice list or the naughty list!! IM ON THE NUTTY LIST❤❤❤
This was my first nutcracker and…DEFINITELY NOT FOR THE WEAK😭😭😭😭
Omg why does the bear remind me of the inflatable dinosaur thing😅
I would like to see her react to Riley's when the war is over pointe dance from the next step. I love your videos btw!!!
I also liked the t-shirt very much so i searched it up and found it. It is called Point Shoe Addict T-shirt from the brand Pointbrush. xx
hi josephine!! can you talk about R-class pointe shoes, now that they're available in the US? thanks ahead of time and i love the videos!
dancers! i’m going on my very first summer intensive next year and i was wondering if anyone has any tips like packing etc?
So good 😂😂😂
Here’s a dumb question. Could one get a virtual fitting as a bday present when they only went to prepoint/beginning pointe (I took one class and realize I broke both heels doing cheer and dance at the same time)? Or is that dangerous?
For my studio, we have audition, season, nutcracker, season, spring show, season, and summer intensives
The nutcracker bear is giving me serious Barney vibes
For me, the "only" Nutcracker is the Pacific Northwest + Maurice Sendak version. It's the one I fell in love with as a little girl! If you have never seen it - please find it and watch it. It's made to be a hybrid of stage with theatrical filming and it is amazing!
I was listening to Nutcracker music at school to relax and I thought I was going to die. 😭 Like I was getting nerves while sitting in a classroom
I was like « why the hell do i recognize the music I’ve never even seen it » then i realized we played it in band
El viernes voy a ver el cascanueces.
Can you react to master ballet academy??❤❤
As much as these videos are fun, I miss your fitting videos. Please don't forget why some of us were here in the first place. ❤
I wanted to be a ballet dancer as a child but I know now I was never most stable on my feet even walking lol!!!
