As someone who got into Stardew Valley after my Sims games kept crashing on my laptop and I wanted another game in the general simulation category, this aspect of Stardew is hilarious to me! I will absolutely not be trying a speed run but love that people strategize and find ways to optimize a game I'm trying to use to just unwind at the end of the day.😂 (For the record, I also play games like Civilization or Elder Scrolls, so other game genres are not lost on me but definitely got into Stardew for the farming sim content, and the strategy aspect has been a pleasant surprise).
I'm glad people enjoy this game in many different ways including speed running. I like to watch a good speed run once in a while. I tried my own speed run a couple years ago, time to finish Joja membership with only income allowed from fishing. I did it by summer day 2. I could probably beat that time pretty easily, but don't ever want to do that again.
Kinda surprised you didn't mention hutharvest%, which basically boils down to "Get the Junimo Hut, put a box of raisins in it, plant a crop after that, then watch the Junimos harvest the crop. Time ends when the fruit or veggie leaves the screen." Then again, I just made up the category on the spot.
i have a gimmick run that i've been playing thats basically a marriage% run for Sebastian specifically but with a bit more theming, i call it: "GAY🖤EMO farm". my basic goal is to marry Sebastian as fast as i could, i also watched all his cutscenes because i wasn't timing myself. i made my character be a guy and wear all black, to truly fit the name. after i married him my new goals were to 1. complete the community centre, 2. have a chicken coop of only void chickens, and 3. (most importantly) be the best damn husband this side of Ginger Island! i played on the hilltop farm to try something new but the run would probably be better with better fish chances and more space for crab pots for sashimi. i think if someone wanted to do a marriage% run thats a little more silly this could be fun.
I still would like if there was a leaderboard for some of the categories ordered by in game time rather than IRL time. That is, after all, the timing method grandpa sets for you for evaluation (though he does extend your eligibility). It would give some of the odd challenge runs a more competitive scene (though Bla_De would almost certainly dominate seeded, especially if dynamic seeding is allowed)
@@salmence100 Yes, though admittedly, a few of them are going to have super high chances for ties (like, if you have sewers unlock as a category, that happens the morning after everything is handed in), so tie-breaking methods would be needed (like *when* during the previous day did you turn in the last thing that made it possible). Oh, and with sewers unlock, I don't think anyone's going to try and beat BlaDe for dynamic seeded glitched because the grind he did to get enough geodes and other drops is frightening. I might consider TASing stuff like that, though
I actually want to try getting the Posh% world record now. I'm going to do some research and see how hard it is. But at least with good luck it wouldn't take an hour. So this seems very doable.
for the sea urchin hat speed run couldnt an easier one than the living hat be: trash can hat? while u run to the beach to get the aquarium you could check jodis and haleys house (maybe lewis too) and hope luck is on your side. chances are higher than the living hat anyways and seems just as optimised
For the “posh%,” the consistency can be achieved in a different way, as being married to Leah guarantees a wine on Winter 28. Is it super useful? Not really, but I think it’s neat
I wonder if it would be competitive to get milk as a gift from Sandy for the Posh run, compared to getting a barn/cow/cheese press. You also get wine from some spouses from new years eve, so if you couldn't get FoWS, your run would have a fallback.
l love watching stuff about speedruns in Stardew and always love to see more. I do feel it is important to note while the "Junimo Kart" category is exactly as described, there is also "Junimo Kart Progress Mode" which /is/ just play Junimo Kart and win. However because the run is just go thru the levels that are mostly at a set speed, there is a lot of getting really good at the game as well as RNG. Level 2 in the game can really make or break a run with the fact that completing it successfully means skipping a level and that the ice is the only way you can speed up the kart at all. It's extremely reset heavy just to get a PB.
Imagine some guy moving in down the block, and you don't see him leave his house for a month and a half and the first time he shows up is to pull a prank with your mayor's underwear and some soup

Kinda surprised you didn't mention hutharvest%, which basically boils down to "Get the Junimo Hut, put a box of raisins in it, plant a crop after that, then watch the Junimos harvest the crop. Time ends when the fruit or veggie leaves the screen."
Then again, I just made up the category on the spot.
Aw man, my favorite Trianthania Wheel run is Joja Cola, where he completes the run in 6:15 by...playing Terraria 🤣
Welp. A sea urchin recipe brought me here. Now I need a Raspberry Pie.
i have a gimmick run that i've been playing thats basically a marriage% run for Sebastian specifically but with a bit more theming, i call it: "GAY🖤EMO farm". my basic goal is to marry Sebastian as fast as i could, i also watched all his cutscenes because i wasn't timing myself. i made my character be a guy and wear all black, to truly fit the name. after i married him my new goals were to 1. complete the community centre, 2. have a chicken coop of only void chickens, and 3.
I think that would be a really fun spin off, especially for some of the more intricate runs like posh% and perfection!
@@bandana_girl6507well there’s a smapi mod for building TASes so get to work 😉
I actually want to try getting the Posh% world record now.
I'm going to do some research and see how hard it is. But at least with good luck it wouldn't take an hour. So this seems very doable.
"That's WR... thats WR, Thats WR, I- Thats WR"
"This is the World Record"
LMAO
for the sea urchin hat speed run couldnt an easier one than the living hat be: trash can hat? while u run to the beach to get the aquarium you could check jodis and haleys house (maybe lewis too) and hope luck is on your side. chances are higher than the living hat anyways and seems just as optimised
you need to open 20 cans first before you can get it unfortunately!
@@galieu788 ohh okay, for some reason i thought it was a 1/20 chance i cant breathe 😭😭😭😭
I love your edits dammit. The old Nintendo edit with the sea urchin trio coming together is great.
I can't believe you left out imperfection! I know you didn't do it strictly as a speed run, but it definitely could be one
8:15 i was not expecting to hear this on a Tuesday morning WHAT.
For the “posh%,” the consistency can be achieved in a different way, as being married to Leah guarantees a wine on Winter 28. Is it super useful? Not really, but I think it’s neat
the editing is chef's kiss
There's a video on his channel. Something like "Speedrunning stardews hardest mod"
YAY SALMENCE UPLOADED 😊
I wonder if it would be competitive to get milk as a gift from Sandy for the Posh run, compared to getting a barn/cow/cheese press. You also get wine from some spouses from new years eve, so if you couldn't get FoWS, your run would have a fallback.
Because of the title of this, I thought I was about to watch a Caddicarus video. Now, this is high praise of course!
8:27 Phew. Got a little salty didn't you. That was great.
8:30, ah the official musical theme of the speed run world record
I really applaud every single one of the speedrunners , but never im my life id have the nerve to try it myself 😅
l love watching stuff about speedruns in Stardew and always love to see more. It's extremely reset heavy just to get a PB.
not the summoningsalt music for the underwear speedrun 😂
So with 1.6 introducing a new mechanic for perfection (no spoilers) the new top run for seeded perfection is just under 5 hours. Insane.
I just had a look at the speedrun website before this video came out! What a nice coincidence!
I absolutely did not need to know any of this, but now I do.
