Not bad for the price, but something off about the date at 4:30. I'm kind of mixed on the movement. On one hand, people didn't trust the cheap hi-beat one, but that's what put Starking on the map and made it interesting. Without it, it's just like every other brand on Ali.
I thought "I have this exact watch", but I looked at it, and while I definitely have the same movement, mine is a silver color and the rotor is decorated and has no printing on it. The date window is also not at 4:30, it's at 3. So, there's a choice out there if you want it. I think I paid less than $55 on sale.
I don't think the location of the date window depends on the movement, it's a function of the dial. The movement just has a date wheel that rotates normally, the dial can have a window to reveal it anywhere the designer wants.
Looks like a really nice option at this price, Starking seem to specialise in this dress style automatic. I don't know if it's just me but the date window is a little weird for this design. Great review!
Good on you for doing a real review of a less expensive AliExpress watch!! Most reviews are simply “sapphire for sub $60, awesome value, go buy!”, so I like that you looked at the watch in detail and even showed the strap option looks!! I have the black dial / in house movement version (so hacks and hand winds) of this dress watch (AMO184), and other than a 3 o’clock date window, it looks identical. I got it for $41USD on one of the sales, and for the price, it is a great addition as a dress watch rotation piece. I agree on the butterfly clasp, it is the lottery if it can be adjusted to fit you well. Mine is fine but on the snug side, so lucky me. I don’t mind the bracelet overall, looks good, mine has good finish.
Very Interesting... For $60 dollars it includes Sapphire crystal and a Miyota movement; most price structures I have seen imply a price difference (to a no sapphire), close to $40 because of the sapphire crystal. Then , lets say, cost = $20. The Miyota movement is not a zero dollars cost, it is actually close to $30... So, How is this? Or maybe a better question: Should we all ask for a better price on others micro brand watches? Other than that Great presentation of the watch.. as always... Loved the cat at 11:20 :)
Dave, great vid, I have the mega cheap hi beat starking auto and it’s a lovely watch, I suspect I would take the cadisen c1032 over this at $54 with Seiko nh36a and day/date complication
I personally prefer their AM0184. Basically this watch, but with the hi-beat movement. I've had mine for just over 2 years now. It's still working perfectly, no issues at all. I've also bought a few others for friends and family too. None of which have any issues either. So for me the AM0184 is the better option as it costs less and you get the hi-beat movement (which in my experience is very reliable). The AM0184 is one of the best bang for buck watches available. Along with the Cadisen C1032. In fact I have a comparison review of the two on my channel.
I have got Cadisen for 41 USD with Seiko NH36 and sapphire too, but this bracelet isn't good for me. You can try that kind of watches, if You don use dress watches every day. Cheers!
Hey Dave I am new to your channel and I have one question which I think you can help me .. My question is I have purchased a new automatic skeleton watch and it has a magnetic strap , so will it effect my timepiece? Do answer please.
Oh that's a good question. I imagine if the magnet rested directly against the watch it could cause issues, but on the wrist or on a watch pillow it probably wouldn't effect anything.
I like the 🌟 Star King logo the logo is very important to me ! Actually the face of the watch , it's what you look at the most , I'm not a movement guy if it keeps good time I'm ok , Don't care for four o'clock placement ! Good review 👍
Favorite Chinese special Cadisen -1032. Better Seiko movement w/ hacking, day-date, longer handset, 5m WR. Ridiculously shiny bracelet, though. Also have some quartz winners, as low as $17. Mind-blowing value.
An alternative to this Starking are dress watches by Parnis, e.g. the PA151AU is a very similar design, but has those longer hands Dave requested. (There are dial versions of this watch with hour indicators as digits or wedges.) This also has a Miyota movement, but comes with a leather strap. The Parnis website does not have this model (Aliexpress does), but PA6038 looks identical to that model.
Looks a lot like the Mido!! Good call out! I have the older version Starking, which does have hacking, which I need cause I’m picky like that. Haha. But a nice watch for the money!
Kool, a nice affordable micro brand choice and another great video 😇 . I just got a Casio SGW-500H 2BV. It's the first Casio I've owned in a very long time but I also like some of the offerings from Benyar like the BY-5152 . I really like it and even my girlfriend who thinks I'm nuts for buying watches really likes it. The CaddisOak is also on the top of my bucket list. On a side note stay safe be careful and keep up the great work 😎 .
It has everything you'd need except anything you'd actually want, like refinement, quality, beauty, craftsmanship, originality, or heritage. You know, the things that make such a superfluous thing as a wristwatch worth owning.
Can you do a review of several Chinese/Ali no date dress watches? For dress I am good w no date but I don’t tend to see that many on Ali that look like winners.
Nice and clean, but dont really care for the offset date window (no matter where you put it the minute you need the date hand is covering it) for $60... Not bad👍
Does anyone including Starking know why the Miyota version has the date at 4:30?? The "original" with the Chinese movement has it at 3 and it's smaller brother with the same movement at 6. Both look objectively better.
I think it was just a design choice. As mentioned in the video, it appears that they were copying the look of the Mido Baroncelli, which has a 4:30 date.
Heard of them, they asked me to review some of their watches awhile back, but I declined. At the time I suspected that some of their watches were just rebranded AliExpress watches with the price marked up. Seems like since then they have gotten some more original designs though.
Great review as usual. I feel I really should try perlon straps. Wasn't a fan of them before, but the more I see them I'm getting warmed up to them. At least on a dressier watch.
I wonder when you will do a mvmt or dw watch review as it seems your reviews are now mostly sponsored; which in a way is disappointing as you are one of my favourite. Hope to see more neutral reviews where dealers in Japan can lend you watches that could be jdm models. I feel you being in Japan can maximise this unique position you are in...just a thought..
I did an MVMT review! It was one of my earliest videos. But I get your point. Summer got really busy with a flood of requests to do reviews and I over committed a little. It'll still take me a month or so to get through them but after that I'm planning to be a bit more selective so I can focus on other kinds of watch videos.
@@JusttheWatch you did?! Hahaha...i do understand that you have bills to pay and it really doesn't make sense for you to buy some of these watches with your own $$$. As shared, would love to hear more on jdm models and keep up the great work!
I feel the dimensions are a bit too large for a dress watch but the overall lack of quality is too evident to not let it ruin the experience. Just my thought.
First, a dress watch doesn't have to be automatic! Let's face it, you will wear it ...once a week, once a month?? Funny though, but there are A LOT of "new old stock" mechanical vintage watches on eBay. I would rather buy one of these ... than ... 60usd "fully packed" but lack of any heritage value Chinese mass-produced watch ... with poorEST QC ... 😉

Nice review ... I have the AM0244, comes with a Miyota 9015, love it

Hard to believe they fit that Miyota movement, milled bracelet and Sapphire into that watch for $60.....
They don't. Real price is much higher.
Favorite Chinese special Cadisen -1032. Better Seiko movement w/ hacking, day-date, longer handset, 5m WR. Ridiculously shiny bracelet, though. Also have some quartz winners, as low as $17. Mind-blowing value.
Check the Quangin automatic watch with the nh36 movement. I got one for 63CAN$ on sale. I find it better looking than the Starking.

Nice watch, I have 3 Starkings and like them. Thanks for your review.... I will have to buy this one with the new movement....
Not a bad watch for the price! Another great review Dave 👍🏼
Interesting review. Subscribed.
I have the same white dial with the Seiko automatic movement. Only thing I have issues is the crown is too small.

Thnx for the review Like the watch but not the bracelet
Excellent review
I remember starking when there spokesman was Charlie Tuna
I feel like this is a much better choice than an Invicta.
Just doesn't really do anything for me. I know it's not really the same but for the same money I'd get a seiko 5
Love it except for the Date window👍
Have you heard of Lord Timepieces? I think their watches are worth reviewing

Hate the 430 date
all is fine, except the ultra boring basic design looks and maybe a tad too big
this actually does not look any good regarding the second hand, super flimsy. if someone owns it please let me know the quality of this thing

bought one which came dead🥵
Oh no! Hope they got that straightened out for you!
Just the Watch
no worries it’s just norm of chinese watches😔
CODE 000 i’ve been lucky
this time is the worst. having some QC issues are common, but given the price, they are most of the times acceptable😅
No.
my god its awful!
